View 2 RepliesOn my Santa fe 2009 , Just noticed that I can shift from PARK to R, N, D or anything else without pressing on the brake. I checked the gear sticky by the mechanic , and we found that the lock on the gear sticky not exists. So I am worry if that normal and it's like safety option that not exists on my car? Also , is it something that may case damage to the transmission , or just Safety option .
View 8 RepliesI've tolerated having to release my key with the manual push button for years. Now the interior is disassembled (after replacing evap core) so I'm looking into fixing the BTSI.
I've never been clear on whether the problem is in the console by the gear shift or in the steering column. The thing is in the steering and has a solenoid that will mechanically allow the key to turn to the LOCK position when energized. The manual release is at the bottom.
I connected the leads of that white thing to battery voltage and sure enough, the post retracts. So that seems to work. However, when connected to the car wiring, there is not enough voltage to retract. It retract, it will hold. I concluded the problem is near the gear shift. Probing the lead (with the white thing disconnected) indicate battery voltage, but that's without any current.
Battery voltage is getting to the wiring harness in the console. Probing the leads to the Park switch indicates 90 ohms resistance. I suspect this is too high and causing a big voltage drop so there's not enough to energize the solenoid in the column.
What can be replaced in the console to remedy this? Is it only the park switch?
How is the gear shift knob removed? I see a slit in the back of the knob, but don't know how the mechanism works.
Having issue with those plastic shutter flaps under the gear shift console? I think something might have been spilled in there because they have a tendency to be 'sticky' when moving the gear shift back and forth. Sometimes it gets bad enough that they get jammed up trying to move it forward into park. What I'd like to do is take the console cover off to get at them to either clean or replace them. Have part of the gear shift console off?
View 2 RepliesThis morning the Shift Knob made a click every time I selected a gear, for about an hour, then it went away.
It was colder than almost ever here (Berkeley, CA) last nite, 30F. But there was no click back in '05 at 10F (in Prudhoe Bay, AK).
Mechanics (even the dealership!) say not to worry--probably a plastic part--just advised me to shift gently.
I have a 07 f150 getting 17 mpg in town, I would like to get 20 MPG in town, this is a 5 speed, i do not shift into 5th gear. Max in town in 40 MPH. I have 3.55... I was wondering would 3.27 getting me to that 20 MPG?
View 14 RepliesI've read a few posts of people trying and they say the cant be removed but I just don't believe it! I cut off some of the rubber on the with a knife and its all white plastic underneath.. I just don't believe that its actually impossible to remove this.
View 3 RepliesMy parents are having trouble with there 2008 Santa fe 3.3 L. The transmission won't shift and the rpm's climb really high. Does that mean the transmission is going or is it something else.
View 15 RepliesJust had a new set of tires and a front end alignment done on my 2008 Santa Fe with 86,000 miles. Now when it is shifting into 4th or 5th gear it feels like your hitting a patch of Ice. The Truck veers off to the right for a quick second. It just seems like you can feel it in the left wheel. Other than that the truck does not pull and drives straight.
View 5 RepliesMy 2008 Santa Fe 3.3 with 18,000 miles, developed an annoying surging when first put into gear after sitting overnight. I must keep my foot firmly on the brake as I back out of the driveway. If I press gently on the brake I can feel the car jerk or surge and show higher than normal rpms on tach. The jerkiness will go away entirely after a few miles and the rpms will return to normal at idle at a stoplight or stop sign. Is this something that would be covered under my factory warranty? Car was purchased Jan. 2009. I also notice that when the car starts in the morning it goes to a very fast idle. Is that normal? I would think that with the way the oil filter is mounted that the engine might have to wait for oil to return to the filter before it can get to the engine. What could be the cause of my problem? And is it likely my warranty should cover the repairs?
View 4 RepliesMy Santa Fe 2001 model V6 4X4 Automatic shift gears down hard from 3rd in to 2nd. I checked transmission oil and its light brown. Should I drain and refill or not worth it.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2002 Santa Fe V6 2.7 liter, FWD, 215,000+ miles. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd the whole vehicle jerks. It does not do this on the other gears. I took it by a transmission place for a free scan and they said the transmission is fine.
View 19 RepliesLast week my wife's 2004 Santa Fe with 68k went into limp mode, when I ran the code reader it came up with throttle position sensor and pedal position sensor. After fixing both the car runs great except for a Grabby or sudden shift from 2nd to 3rd. It shifts at about the right rpm but very hard. I am wondering if there is trans codes that need to be reset that my code reader is not able to do.
View 3 RepliesMy 2001 Santa Fe 2,4l - Have suddenly lost the abillity to shift gear. Its stuck in 2 and the shift stick is very loose in the "front to back and back to front" motion.. in other words there are resistance sideways.
I suspect it to be a broken shift cable. So my question is : changing shift cable on a santa fe easy? Is the best approach to start from inside the vehicle or from transmission side?
First the wife crushes the underbody on a huge rock cutting a corner. Now she spilled a whole pop down the shift lever, and its glued shut - it will hardly move. I know how to get the console off, but How do I take just the 'shift knob' off? I need to get the flexible piece underneath it off so we can wash all the parts.. I have the upper console part off.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, has 99,000 miles 3.5L. After changing the alternator (alternator did die and drained my battery, the shop recharged the battery) now it seems be stuck in 3rd gear and does not wont to shift (it is a automatic). Fluids are good, transmission was flushed between 50-60,000 miles.
View 3 RepliesThe other day the plastic top piece of my shift knob broke off (that had the shift pattern painted on it) and it made me once again want to replace the stock shift knob. I was considering buying one, but other than TWM I can't find any that I really like, so I want to machine one myself. My biggest problem in planning right now is what metal to use, SS is nice but expensive, and how to attach it to the leather and the stick. The only way I can think of attaching it to the stick is with set screws which would be hard to drill.
View 1 RepliesThis has been bothering since the day I got my R. When im in 6th gear and let off the throttle I notice my shifter jolt a bit. Is this normal?
View 12 RepliesI've got a 2001.5 v6 passat w/ auto and my shift knob has this cool burl veneer on it. I think it's real wood but it's pretty thin and it's got cracks on the front and the back. I can't see any simple way to remove the stick so that I can try to glue it. How to do that. But it's a standard tiprtonic shifter ... probably the standard on that model.
