Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2001 2.4L Wouldn't Rev Over 3K And Had Very Little Power
Oct 12, 2016
2001 Santa Fe 2.4l. My stepson said it wouldn't rev over 3K and had very little power. When it idled the exhaust smelled pretty bad. The next day it died completely and would not start. It wouldn't even start with a little starting fluid and wasn't getting spark.
4 Codes:
Catalylitic Code
Cam Sensor Code
Crank Sensor Code
TPS Code.
I figured the Crank was an old stored code as that was replaced a couple months ago. I replaced Cam, TPS and then redid the Crank Sensor. Still no start. But now, it would run a few seconds on a shot of starting fliud. Exhaust still smelled bad and it didn't rev up like an engine does when it starts on the juice. So NOW it was getting spark again.
Here's the other things I checked:
Catalitic Converter: unhooked exhaust- still no start
EGR Valve: It's good
Spark Plugs: Good (has platinum in it though? , but wouldn't spark a regular plug)
Coils: Both good
Ignition Failure Sensor: Bypassed it and no start:
Fuel cutout Switch: Good and pressed a thousand times
Fuel Pump: Replaced and good
Fuel Pump relay: it clicks and even when bypassed still does not start.
Wiring Harness: No breaks or chaffed wires.
All fuses are good.
All applicable relays have been checked on the under hood fuse box
Here's Something Strange:
The Timing belt was replaced last fall with a new tensioner as well. I checked it after all the above stuff and the timing was WAY off, enough that a pistion felt like it was hitting a valve when I hand cranked it. So, I redid the timing belt (someone else did it last time) and now there is no spark once again.
I've reset the computer a few times. But now no spark after redoing the timing belt. While you may think that I may have done something when doing that here's one more CLUE : Remember above, it would do that no spark thing when we were trying to fix it earler that's why I figured the cam and crank sensor codes were legit. Now, it just does it the whole time.
I think the original problem with the exhaust smelling horrible at idle was raw fuel hitting the cats?

I have a 2003 Santa Fe with AWD, automatic, and 3.5L engine. Saturday I went to get in and key wouldn't turn. Tried to mess with shifter and steering wheel but no go, Wife got it to turn after I went to work. Won't start. Waited for a new ignition lock cylinder then replaced today. Still won't start. There is no chip in the key as far as I know and the kill switch thing is still plugged in. Jumping does nothing. Doesn't even try to start or do anything when I turn the key all the way. What am I missing here?

I have a 2009 Santa Fe and last night, out of the blue, the engine wouldn't start. The shift lever was stuck in park and the brake pedal was very stiff and wouldn't move much. I popped the cap off the shift lock and moved it to neutral at which time the car started without a problem. I could drive but shifting was difficult and the lever didn't really click into a gear. I noticed that when shifting gears. the indicator on the dash would change from N to D and to R in reverse but when I moved up to park, the indicator went blank and the lever locked up again and had be released manually. I also noticed when I got home, since my driveway is a slope, that when the car seemed to be in park is rolled down the driveway, so I had to engage the emergency brake.

Picked up my new sport today and when I got home I noticed the vehicle wouldn't lock correctly with the key fob. After messing around for a few here's what I found. It's the passenger door. If the passenger door is shut the key fob and lock/unlock switch will not lock and unlock the door. I can only unlock the door manually.
Now, if the passenger door is open the key fob and lock/unlock switch will lock and unlock the door. All other doors work as expected.

I have a 2007 Santa Fe, I have been having issues with the power. I tap the brakes and the lights go dim and come back on. Then when the truck is turned off then back on I have nothing like the truck is dead. I replaced the battery and still same issue. I then replaced the alternator and I thought it was good. Just today I decided the use the keyless remote to lock the truck and it locked but not horn sound. I tried to unlock the truck with the remote and nothing. I opened the door and no lights. Turn the key and nothing. The battery still has power to hit. What it could be?

When parked nose down in a steep (and narrow) driveway, was unable to get it into gear to back out. After many, many tries it finally got into gear and backed up. Seems to be working fine otherwise. Needless to say, no more parking in the driveway, What do you think it will take to repair this??

2002 f250 7.3l diesel...
I got a new radiator and the tranny fluid was the worst the mechanic had ever seen. He serviced it and warned me that it might not be long for this world. I broke my flexplate and so I had to pull the tranny, and I decided to throw a new torque converter in because it was giving g me symptoms like a broken sprag( it wouldn't rev up or do a brake stand in gear, therefore slow takeoffs).
I was recommended to replace the tranny, I decided I could do the job again down the road if I needed to. About two thousand miles down the road I had a hard shift going from overdrive down to get up a hill and about 10 miles later the truck started slowing down....I couldn't give it enough pedal to keep it going and the engine sounded rough.
I pulled over and checked fluids and everything was fine, truck idled fine, bright red tranny fluid not burnt at all. Pulled on to the road again and it pulled fine until about 40 mph and it wouldn't go any faster. I got it towed home and ordered up a tranny from Ford figuring it must be toast, but I thought I'd throw it out to the forum to see if there is any other troubleshooting I can do before I install the new one in case it is some other problem or some electrical harness or something, or if that is a pretty standard reaction to a fried tranny.
Engine runs good at idle, shifts perfectly to drive and reverse, drives forward and back(I'm very hesitant to drive it out of the driveway in case I can't get it back in). Only happened two times before I decided to tow it. Temps looked fine on the gauges, fluid was a little overfilled in the tranny, but again, not hot or burnt.

I have a 2003 Ford F-350 super duty 6.0. A few weeks ago it starting loosing power, it wouldn't even go up to 15 mph. It now won't even move. There is 0 power. When I press the gas the motor bogs down to a very low idle and wants to die. I also had recent trouble with it starting. It would wind up to a very very low idle and about a minute later it would crank up to full idle. I changed the fuel filters (on top of the engine and under the cab) and also changed the fuel pump under the cab. After that I still have no power when pressing the gas it will still act like it wants to die.

I've noticed something very strange today with my Lexus. It was -8, in Toronto, and I had to start my car quickly and drive it. The engine was still cold, but I had to leave early. The odd thing which happened, is that after driving slowly and coming to a stop, for a stop sign, the car wouldn't go, though it was on drive. The car was still cold. It seemed, that the tranny wouldn't switch gears.
I brought the car to a total stop, and put it to a parking position, then drove again for a couple of feet, and the tranny wouldn't go again. I waited for the car to warm up a little bit, and the care drove normally after. Is it normal like that? Do we have to wait for the car to warm up? Or there's something wrong with my Tranny.

this morning I started my 2004 f250 drove a mile and filled up my truck. Then drove another mile and my truck acted like it was running out of fuel. It was loosing power then stalled out and wouldn't start. About five hours later I tried to start it again and nothing. about five hours after that I tried it again and it started up and drove fine.
My thought was fuel filter or the water trap. I haven't had a chance to open the filters up and check them yet. Today while I was at work I got on here to see if I could figure out what was wrong with it. all I could think of was maybe the HPOP went out or the ICP sensor. Could one of these be the problem or was I right with my original thinking and it's just a fuel filter? First thing in the morning I'm going to pull the filters and replace them.
Could there be something else wrong with my truck that I don't know about? Like I said I filled up the fuel tank then it lost power within a mile and stalled out and wouldn't start back up. Then about 10 hours later it fires up and acts like nothing happened.

So today on my way home from work. I got off at my exit and when I went to step on the gas I lost power and the truck wouldn't exceed 15 mph. It would just rev up and down. It was pouring white smoke from the tailpipe. At one point it went back to normal and started running fine for about 10 seconds. Then it went back to doing the same thing losing power and spitting smoke. I limped the truck into a parking lot and called a ride. I'm having a tow truck pick it up on Monday and take it to the dealership. Is this a head gasket issue? And I feel like it's going to be expensive. 2006 F250 6.0L .....

The past two days my 2008 Santa Fe has been exhibiting power failure upon starting. When the ignition is switched on then to start all power is lost immediately with no start nor crank. I hear a metallic click seemingly too light a sound for a starter solenoid but since this has not happened before it could be a solenoid sound. All power is lost including dash and marker lights. After about 5 seconds or so the marker lights and dash will return and the car will start normally. I expect a circuit breaker is resetting. This has happened three starts in a row at least eight hours apart. This morning the dash clock was 8 or so hours behind but the car started normally. 62k on the car.

I'm not sure whether it's real or even possible. Starting this summer, when it's hot and I turn on AC, I feel loss of power from the engine. When need for speed, it's slow to accelerate. The engine is less powerful than when it's cool and no AC running. Is this possible? It's 2010 V6 AWD.

So, I experienced a brief loss of power steering yesterday that was rather startling, then today I hear about a recall on other models for the exact issue.

2004 2.4L 4cylinder manual transmission. I'm trying to resolve this issue I've been having. The main symptom I notice is when I accelerate, the power lags before I feel it going to the motor. Then the power kicks in at some point a few seconds later.
From the codes that have come up I've replaced a mass airflow sensor, 2 coil packs, knock sensor, and now a throttle position sensor. the repair manual I have shows the TPS having slotted mounting holes for adjustment but neither the original part or the new one I ordered had slotted mounting holes only circular holes.

I have a 2003 Santa Fe 3.5 liter. I have a bad power steering leak and the dealership says I need
pressure hose
return hose
cooler hose
I've tried all the local car part stores and Napa has the pressure hose but for about $180.

I've got another issue with my 01 Santa Fe, 2 wheel drive, 4 Cyl. I was driving and it cut off on me, tryed to restart it, it cranks but doesn't start.
I pulled over, thought i might be out of gas, added 2 gallons, no good. Checked fuses, had a burnt ecu fuse. Replaced it, doesn't start.
Used a test light and checked all the fuses and the ecu fuses don't light up even though the fuse is in tact. Checked inside the box to see if it would light up touching the pins inside, and it doesn't light up...
I also tried to read the codes, but I keep getting no link as the error message.. Do you think the fuse box is bad, or maybe the ecu is bad, or both?

2001 Santa Fe. 4 Cylinder
It has spark, it will run briefly with starting fluid.
The camshaft, crankshaft, fuel pump and TPS are all good.
All fuses are good.
The fuel pump relay is good.
The FP relay gets power to both the control side and the FP power in side.
If I jump the FP power side of the relay it will get 12v pump to the FP connector.
NO power to the FP cutout switch by the master cylinder.
So, how can the relay be good and the FP get power if I jump the relay but not have power when I put the relay back in? Is the ECU cutting it out as soon as it gets a signal from the relay?

2003 2.7 ... Started and was running and the brake light and battery flickered and AR died. Now key does nothing. Tried new battery and nothing. If you put key in it chimes and does nothing else. Things that don't need a key work like hazards and horn and parking lights come on but turning the key has no effect. It's seems to not have power in the on or start position of the key. What does this point to? Ignition switch? Short somewhere?

I am having a power steering problem with my 2006 santa fe, been going on for a couple weeks and I am stumped on what is wrong with it, what I noticed is turning to the left or right and very hard to turn and sometimes it will be fine and other times its the left or right.. What could be going on here? there is no leaks or noises noted, it has 242,000 kms on it. fluid is full but a little brown and smells a bit burnt. I know it will need a flush but would that be the solution or would it be something else?

I have just recently acquired an 01 Accent with the 1.6L and have had a few problems with it. It has about 112,000 miles on it and at about 109,000 it had the following services performed by the previous owner (reputable shop did the work)
-New battery
-New timing belt kit
-New water pump
-New valve cover gasket
-New plugs
-New belts
-New front pads
-New front rotors
-New rear wheel cylinders
-New front CV axles
-New tires all around
-Alignment
Now since I got it with about 111,000 miles on it, it ran and drove great until I had to put a new alternator on it as well as having to take the center console and automatic shift lever out to repair the wires for the O/D button. Car wouldn't shift into high gear. The problem I am having now is the car will crank but it will not start. Not even a sputter. I drove the car to and from work the day previous and then went out and started it to go to work in the morning and it started fine and ran fine for a minute or two then it just died like I turned the key off. No spitting or sputtering like it was running out of gas just died completely. Checked a few fuses and such and really not sure where to go from here because I don't have a code reader and don't wanna just throw parts at it, I would rather troubleshoot the problem.
