I have a 2002 Santa Fe that has started to have a very loud rattle. It sounds like it is coming from underneath the vehicle toward the rear, possibly the passenger-side wheel-well, but that specific location just may be an auditory illusion.

I have a rattle of some sort I can hear coming from underneath towards the rear while under acceleration. Usually hear mostly at certain RPM and not through entire accel to hwy speed. Do not hear it while in Park and reving engine, but on the road I hear it. Mostly I think after it gets hot or something.
No driveability issue only rattle? While I was reving in Park I could hear a bubbling after I let off the pedal. Is that normal. I don't think it is the same noise/rattle.
There is a steady noise which sounds like it is coming from underneath in the center of the car. The noise is consistent at speeds up to 50 kmh (maximum speed where I live). 2003 Santa Fe 2.7l ....
View 6 RepliesI get this loud click noise coming from the front end of my vehicle when I apply the brakes. It seems to happen much more often than not, especially at low speeds. I can only describe it as some sort of loud clicky clanky sound, it's also a single sound, it doesn't go on and on and it only happens when I apply the brakes.
View 2 RepliesI have a noise that has been driving me crazy for a week now. After some investigation I have discounted a few things. To sum up the noise, it seems to be coming from under the vehicle, maybe the passenger rear. It sounds kinda like a jack hammer and it is loud. People on the street can hear it well! There is no consistency in it. I do not here it standing still and it only appears when I am driving. The speed does not matter.
While driving, it will come and go, it will last from 5 seconds to up to 30 seconds. While driving along, it starts, then stops abruptly without dying down. The speed of the "knocking" will follow the speed of the vehicle. If Im going slow (20 mph) it will knock at a slower pace, thus going 65, it is 2 a second. There is nothing loose, I have ruled that out.
Although it does sound like something loose and hitting. I can feel it slightly on the floorboard under the pedals and passenger side. I have to believe it is the rear u-joint? but that was replaced 2 years ago, and I have never heard of a u-joint making this noise.
Our excursion usually sits unless we are towing or need to haul a group of people. The past three days my wife has been using it as a commuter. Yesterday she told me that two times at start-up she has heard a loud clunk/thump sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. At first she thought it was happening when she engaged the brake to put it in drive. Today she called me and told me the sound came just after start-up while the vehicle was warming up before the brake was applied. What this could be? I wish I would have observed it so I could give more details.
View 2 RepliesTrying to find any information on what's happening with my 2008 2.2 Diesel Santa Fe ... Been driving fine until I pulled up at a set of traffic lights yesterday and started hearing a loud rattle- knocking coming from the engine at idle.
Put it in gear and drove and it goes away. When at idle if you rev the car it goes away.
Mechanic seems to think it could be clutch as it vibrates the gearbox, but sound seems to be more prominent around the engine, my thoughts were maybe a loose timing tensioner.
Clutch replacement is very expensive.
Changed intake manifold on it, because it had cracked and warped. After changing, now the exhaust line that leads under the car is glowing red and sparks were seen coming from under the car too. Cannot figure out why. It was suggested that something may have fallen in when we changed the intake manifold but I don't remember seeing anything falling in.

The car has 110k miles and the rattle is most prominent when I start the car or accelerate hard or just cruising downhill without gas.
I went to one of the well known shops in the area and they said it's coming from the cat and it needs to be replace and quoted me like $1300 for parts and labor which seemed quite steep to me.
They said it's coming from the inside the cat so it needs to be replaced.
Is this a common issue with our cars? I though maybe something is loose and can be just welded together or something.
I own a Canadian 2013 Santa Fe sport AWD 2.0l turbo. Back in June/ July 2015 I noticed a poping / grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle when ever I made sharp turns under moderate acceleration. I brought my car into the dealer as it was still under warranty. They diagnosed the problem to be my viscous coupler apparently it was defective.
The part was ordered and replaced about 3 weeks later. After the warranty work was completed in still noticed a noise coming from the back end. I took my car back to the dealer. They found that the rear tires were "cupped" they recommended to get a 4 wheel alignment to solve the cupping issue.
In my past experiences tire cupping is usually caused by a worn out suspension component such as bad shocks. So to avoid conflict of interest I took my car to Canadian Tire to get the alignment checked and adjusted.
Sure enough the front wheels only were slightly out of alignment and a minor adjustment was made. No adjustments made to the rear. The technician advised me that due to the minor adjustment, the alignment would not cause my rear wheels to cup. The complete suspension was checked and no problems were found.
So...would a bad viscous coupler cause wheel cupping???
My Santa Fe had 48000kms at the time of the original noise was detected.
I do not tow a trailer or haul overloaded loads.
The majority of kilometres made Is done on highway.
The rear tires have now been rotated to the front.
I purchased a 2014 Santa Fe 2.0T last June. Has been an awesome car up until about 2 weeks ago. I started to notice a squeaky rattle sound coming from somewhere around the rear passenger door. I've tried pressing on things, checking all the door pockets and can't seem to find it. Looked at the front mud flap in front of the rear tire and it's tight. It only does it when I get above 45 MPH and is sporadic. I'm afraid the dealer won't be able to replicate the problem.

View 9 RepliesMy 2005 Elantra (what a beauty, cobalt blue) shakes, rattles in the front underneath, an obvious suspension problem. Was told 3 different things by 3 different mechanics. Bad shocks/struts, bad universal joint, bad tie rod.
When I go 50mph it rattles the worst, except for when you hit bumps, but mostly the ride is bumpy all the time. At 65mph, it's smooth. Also, the steering squeaks when car first starts up. Replaced belt, keep wd40 handy, but still does it. Steering strong and seems good otherwise.
2004 santa fe ... I found the mirror mount gets loose so I used a piece of rubber tubing (vacuum line) and put it between the windshield and the support arm of the mirror. Mazda trucks early 90's uses same idea to prevent mirror reflection vibration. How to get rid of that buzzing noise.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe v6. I've had problems with the air conditioning in that it blows hot. Paid around 900 bucks to have a new compressor installed because the mechanic said that would fix it but it didn't. That was about 8 months ago. Still blowing strong but no cold air. About two weeks ago I took the car to a different mechanic who told me it needs a new compressor which would be 900 bucks. I declined that but had the guy do a little work on the breaks. He put new rotors and pads on the front brakes two weeks ago. Now within the past couple days when I start the car up it makes an extremely loud nasty grinding type of sound for a couple seconds then stops. Oil is fine and new. It happened this morning long enough for me to look under the hood and see the fans looked like they were fine, and the loud grinding noise seems to be coming from behind the glove box. It hasn't broke down on me yet, it's just really obnoxious and embarrassing with all the noise every morning.
View 8 RepliesI am having a strange issue with this vehicle that the dealership can't figure out but it doesn't surprise since here they are a bunch of idiots there anyways....well here it goes....when i start the vehicle there is a fairly loud "buzzing" noise coming from the drl module mounted on the front right side fender, the module feels like the relay inside is clicking extremely fast but not actually staying on, the drl's do not come on however the high beam indicator on the dash is illuminated. This will go away when i turn on the low beams, but i still have no high beams. There is a slight flicker within all the interior lights and headlights which leads me to believe there is a ground issue. I am unable to obtain any schematics for this part of the electrical system to be able to back probe and try to isolate the issue.... The vehicle seems to be fine as long as you turn the low beams on as soon as you start it other then the slight flicker in the lighting inside and out.....
View 3 RepliesMy 2004 Santy 3.5L (I am the original owner) just turned 91.4K miles and all of a sudden a VERY LOUD Engine Knocking sound came from the top of the engine. I have been changing my own oil since new with synthetic Mobil 1 and a new filter every time, and I never had any issues. I changed it last week at 90K prior a Spring Break trip (1350 miles).
Then yesterday after I let her rest for 1 day, I took the kids to school and within 10 miles of my house the ticking HARD loud noise started happening. I pulled over near a shop (within 1 block of where the noise started) and they said...don't drive it it sounds like a lifter collapsed, or a rod bearing or something big...
I had her towed to the dealer and the first thing they told me is to gather all the oil change receipts and a "manifesto" and they asked me how often I change the oil... I said every 5K miles. I change my own oil and have done since day 1.
BTW, Timing Belt, Water Pump, tensioners, belts, coolant, spark plugs and coils were changed last year at 77K miles.
The car should still be covered under the 10year/100K Powertrain and I believe they are trying to build a case so Hyundai can cover this or not...
They still need to tell me what's wrong... I change my own oil so I don't have receipts for "oil changes" and I have a log of when oil was changed...
I hear a knocking sound or a rumbling sound underneath feet area of my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe when driving over bumpy roads or when traveling over a "washboard" type of road. Shocks & struts appear OK.
Could it be a bad swaybar bushing? How difficult would it be to change on my own? What else could it be? Looking for a schematic for this vehicle to check out all types of bushings?
I noticed there was a relatively large oil leak coming from underneath the rear passenger door immediately after I started my wife's 2000 Passat (GLX -- V6). The car wasn't driven for about 2 days and immediately after I started her up, I noticed the oil leak coming out right in front of the rear passenger tire.
What kind of oil leak could this be? I've never seen a car leak oil from underneath the rear passenger door? I recently had the oil gasket replaced. After I pulled out, I noticed that the oil was kinda black and had an odor of gas to it. What this could be?
I have a 2011 camry le, just got its 10,000 service the other day. When I am stopped with my foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive gear, I can hear a rattle coming from the front. But when i let go of break and accelerate it stops rattling. I told the dealer at the service but they told me they could no duplicate it.
View 12 RepliesI have an 03 Santa Fe, 2.7 l AWD. Recently I've begun to notice a whining almost electric motor like sound coming from the rear of the engine. It get more noticeable the longer the trip. The weird thing is that it seems to respond to throttle input more than speed. If I'm cruising at say 65 I can ease off the throttle, reapply the throttle enough to increase RPM but not speed and hear it. I've had the differential, brakes, bearings checked. My mechanic has had it in the air 4 times and has spent atleast 4 hours on two occasions trying to find it. He can hear it. My thoughts are that it could be the Fuel Pump, or the exhaust.
