Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Strange Noise Behind Passenger Airbag
Jan 28, 2012
I get a strange noise behind the passenger airbag, like parts moving.
Recently I noticed that the a/c does not come out cold. Could these issues be related?

I have a 2003 Santa Fe, 2.4L.
Last night, I added some power steering stop leak to my PS system, but I accidentally spilled some below the reservoir. Soon after, that area of the engine starting making a consistent "spark"-type noise. I think it has something to do with the belt, because when I turn on AC, the noise gets a little faster in rhythm.
I say "spark" noise because it sounds like an electrical spark, rather than clicking or whining.
My wife and I recently purchased a '01 Santa Fe. We noticed that the gap between the passenger front door panel and dashboard is wider than the gap between the drivers door panel and dashboard. There is road noise that enters from the passenger side door. I believe the door latch is contacting the striker before it is fully closed.
What would be the best way to correct this? Move the striker or the latch? My wife will be spending about three hours a day everyday during the week in this vehicle and the road noise will annoy her until I get it fixed.
I recently noticed that when my girlfriend sits in the front passenger seat the light will randomly indicate that the passenger airbag is off. I took it to the dealership, they ordered me a new light to see if that is the problem.
Its really weird, she will be sitting in the same position for over a hour sometimes and then it will suddenly say that her airbag is off. the dealer said they tested the seat switch and it was working properly.
I will be bringing it in this week sometime and we will see what they say about the light. For now I have decided to take a picture/video everytime it happens to document it.
I'm driving a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe with 83,000 miles on it.
Had it in the shop (dealer) a couple of weeks back for some work on the transmission. While there, I had the dealer perform the work for Recall 090 (corrosion of rear trailing arm). Since that time, there has been a clicking noise coming from what I believe to be the right rear wheel (it is definitely coming from the right [passenger] side). The noise sounds like metal rubbing up against metal, for lack of a better description. The noise is directly correlated to wheel rotation... the faster I drive the vehicle, the more frequently it occurs; the slower I drive, the less frequently it occurs.
The noise is very noticeable, and I am certain that it did not exist prior to my latest visit to the dealer. I am considering taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic this time, as the dealer repeatedly tells me that they aren't to blame, or I end up leaving the dealership with more problems than I arrived with.
I have this strange noise coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side of my vehicle. Here are the characteristics of the sound:
1) Sounds a bit like a skipping tranny. Fast paced creaking type sound.
2) Only happens when coasting and the car is up to temperature. Meaning when I'm accelerating or braking the sound is not present.
BTW, the vehicle has 28k-29k miles and is 18 months old.
2004 Santa fe- air bag light stays on-
Any trouble shooting protocol to follow?
I have a strange rattle that I can't isolate. It only happens when the outside temp exceeds 55 degrees. Once November hits, the noise goes away until April. From the driver's seat it sounds like it is coming from the dashboard. Others in the car have said that it sounds like it is coming from the driver's seat. The noise is intermittent and only happens when the car is moving and is vibration related. I have tried to isolate with a wireless microphone and cannot find where it is coming from.
View 2 RepliesSo I drive a 98 Honda, 118k miles, and for last month I've got a really strange noise coming from my front passenger side wheel. It happens when I apply the brakes, usually at a slow speed, slowing down from something like 30mph to a stop. When slowing down, if I have just a bit of pressure on the brake, the noise seems to go along with the speed of the wheels. It also happens when I accelerate from a stop.
I can only describe it as a kind of creaking noise, almost like it is coming from the spring. Sometimes it sounds a little tinny, sometimes not so much. I don't think its actually in the suspension, because it doesn't make noise if I go over speed bumps or press down on the fender. Brake pads have a good amount of pad left on them.
My hunch is that it might have something to do with the fact that I hardly ever drive anymore, somewhere around 10-20 miles a week, back and forth to the subway essentially (fair amount of time driving down banked turns in a parking garage if that adds any info). My dad knows a decent amount about cars, but he isn't sure what is going on, though he thinks it nothing dangerous. Strange wheel noises always make me wary though.
Ok I just bought my 2004 santa Fe last Saturday. I washed and detailed the entire car even washed under the hood with the washer from the car wash like I have done many times before on other cars. On sunday the air bag light came on. Could have this been from me washing under the hood or is there a true problem. How do I check the air bag system and how can I reset the light.
View 6 RepliesWhen I got home from work last night i discovered i had this strange noise coming from my gs430. not sure what is it but there was some smoke coming from my passenger side of the motor but I couldn't see what it was exactly due to the night hour. please view the short video clip to see what it could be.

Have a 1998 F-150....heard a strange noise coming from the front passenger side of the truck. Parked and turned the wheel and heard something fall off. It appears to be a shield of some sort.

Been having for some time an intermittent problem where the air bag light will come on and not clear. I can clear it sometimes by removing the neg. batt. term. and letting it sit for a few minutes. The "air bag" light always seems to come on when someone sits in the passenger seat. The dealer reported a trouble code of "B1382-- PSAB harness improper pin tension" They said that they re-seated a connector and it was good to go. Now the "air bag" light is on again. Does the description refer to the pin tension in a connector? which connector does it refer to and can I just tighten up the female part of the connector such that the male pin makes better contact? Is it the yellow connector under the seat?

This is a recurring problem. Air Bag light comes on and stays on. Seems to always get triggered by someone sitting in the front passenger seat AND the right side rear passenger seat. First couple of times I was able to clear it by removing the neg. battery terminal for 30 to 45 min. Then it stayed on and didn't clear. I took it to the dealership and they said they cleared it by cycling the connector behind the glovebox. It has been ok for a long time until yesterday night when I had 5 people in the car. Now this morning the "Air Bag" light is on and won't clear. I tried disconnecting the neg. battery terminal because it was easy to do but no luck. I have checked the connectors under the passenger seat thinking someone is bumping a connector with their feet but all connectors seem ok.
Every time I start the truck, the Passenger Side Airbag light is on, which is saying the airbag is turned "OFF." I have to push the button to turn the light off, which turns the airbag "ON." How do I reset this to where the airbag is "ON" until I turn it "OFF?"
View 8 RepliesI have a 2001 Honda civic. Great car, so far. I need to replace the catalytic converter, however I just passed smog shortly prior to the cc going out so I've been putting it off (bad, I know).
When I drive in the lower gears, 1st and 2nd, the car makes a much louder than normal ggggrrrrrrr sound. Don't know quite how to describe it. Especially when turning corners.
Do I need a new transmission? Does my needing to replace the catalytic converter have anything to do with this?
There is a strange rubbing sort of noise coming from the front end. I hear it when I take my foot off the accelerator and/or when I turn the steering wheel to the left. To me it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the front end, but I could be wrong. The most recent work done to the vehicle was the brakes, about a month or two ago.
View 2 RepliesI have a 01 f250 7.3. Every once and a while when I go to start my truck it make a strange noise, very similar to the sound a vehicle makes when you try and start it while it's running. if I let off the key and try again it will start. Sometime it will do it 2-3 times. So far I have never had it not start after a few tries. Can't seem to put a reason behind when and why it does it. Sometimes it will go weeks without happening, sometimes it will happen twice in a day. Starter is year old but put a cheap one in it. Is it my starter or something else.
View 13 RepliesMy dad just bought a 2001 F-250 Crewcab 4x4 w/V-10. 72,000 miles. Anyways i noticed a small almost exhaust leaking sound on the test drive. I had the dealership put it up on the rack so I could see the underside. I noticed that it has the famous broken manifold bolt. So I kinda wrote it off on that we would have to get that fixed soon. Anyways the noise hasn't gotten worse just now noticing it that it has set times when it happens.
It happens around 25 mph then goes away then back at 45 mph, then goes away. I am having a hard time describing it. Almost like the exhaust is building up pressure then releasing it when it gets too high. But then I starting thinking transmission something since it kinda has a delayed shift when the noise happens. To clarify I am not saying it anything to do with the torque converter. I am just rolling to find out what is going on.
The frames around the passenger windows have rusted on my 2005 Santa Fe. I have seen this on some other Santa Fe's as well. Is this a common problem.
View 1 Replies135 plus pound passenger with seat belt on. Was intermittent on/off with passenger but now seems always off (off light 'on' ) meaning the passenger airbag is disabled.
I know the es350 was so bad like this that there was a threat of class action. I've read the weight sensor is in the passenger seat rail and you can also do a calibration with a scan tool.
