Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Steering Locking Up If It Is Raining Or Drive Through A Puddle Of Water
Apr 29, 2014
I have a 2004 Santa fe and if it is raining or if I drive through a puddle of water, my steering is locking up, what may be causing it? I am afraid it will cause me to wreck.

I have a 2006 Hyundai Tucson with 31,000 miles, and my 5-year power train warranty will expire in mid-September 2011. Recently, and consistently, when I drive through a puddle my power steering suddenly quits, the battery light comes on, the brake light comes on, and my blood pressure rises a bit. After a few seconds, the power steering will come back on, or I'll pull over and re-start the car for the power steering to come on.

This concerns a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L engine.
Bad rain, combined with a puddle splash caused a short (someplace). Vehicle ran poorly on way home and then eventually failed to start. Replaced the Cam Position Sensor and the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Checked all wiring and connections. Cleared codes and the vehicle started. Ran for about 15/20 minutes and a P0340 code popped with the engine light on. Car still runs fine. Researched code and learned that this code is a Camshaft Position Sensor A - Circuit Malfunction.
1. Bad ground in Circuit.
2. Open Circuit that fails to close.
3. PCM malfunction.
Questions:
1. Where in this vehicles is the PCM located? Is it within the main ECU in one of the other ECU fuses or an independent fuse?
2. Other than the 3 issues listed above, could I be overlooking anything else?

Had rain recently, when I opened the rear tailgate I had water come out on the left side center of the gate and end up on the chrome section of the rear bumper, I looked for the drain holes which are oval and covered with a plastic patch, painted the color of the car,I carefully peeled the corner to find that the area under the small patch (cover) the metal was only primed. Most of the time after it rains I find some water in my cab. I started seeing this after I installed a quad gauge overhead pod. Could the wire loom for the gauge wires touching the cab roof draw in enough condensation to leave some water in the cab? Any clues how to fix it if that is the problem?

I have a 98 Toyota Rav4 4cyl auto. Started to leak water from somewhere into the passenger side floor when it rains. Started out only leaking during heavy/fast rain, but now almost every time. Thought it was the sunroof drain overflow, but no water on the seat cushion, and I reamed both drain tubes out with a stiff wire all the way to the ground and confirmed water runs out the properly. Now I think it's something in the firewall, like maybe the vent air? Tried taking the screen off the cowl and looking down into what I presume are the vent ducts, but didn't find any drain rail. How to fix this? Do I need to take the dash apart?

My car has over 120,000 miles, runs great, oil changes every 3-5K. Love this car! Last month before I took it to the car wash to hand wash (can't go through auto with the soft top), always careful not to use high power around the windows, but this time I tried the "hot wax". The next time that we had a very hard rain, I noticed water dripping into the car from the top of the windows right around were the rubber seams meet.
I thought, ok, maybe it's because it was such a hard rain. However... when ever it rains more than a very light rain, water is getting in from the same place on both sides of the car. What can I do to stop the leak? I'm hoping that I don't have to replace the whole top, nothing else is wrong and I don't see a leak anywhere else.

Just got the girlfriend a 2002 Santa Fe and the front passenger door locking is a bit random! Sometimes it unlocks and unlocks ok from the key in the drivers door or the lock/unlock buttons, other times it half locks / unlocks (the lock button on the door panel half moves!) and other times it just ignores me all together! The cabling and cable boot from the body to the door seems in good condition (my audi A4 had that problem and you really dont wanna know about the wiring nightmare i had to fix that!!! bloody Germans!!). My feeling is that its a worn actuator.

My brother's 2005 Santa Fe keeps locking up in 3rd gear. I've read around here that the P0715 error code that I have is for an input sensor, but I replaced that and it still doesn't work. I also tried the vehicle speed sensor as well and it didn't work.
I was with someone at AutoZone who pulled up a page here that said no I really needed to replace the transmission control module but I can't find that thread here.

Santa fe 2004 - When locking the car with RC, lights did not flash. Cause was hazard light fuse. To verify this, activate the hazard lights, if they do not work at all, check the hazard light fuse. When I replaced the fuse all issues were resolved.

I have a sante fe which has problems (suspect multiple) with central locking , intermittently locking itself - very annoying - even driving down the road.
Drivers door controls for central locking unlock button does not unlock the doors - button just doesn't do anything. Lock button works fine. In addition window controls on drivers door dont work - only control that works is the one for the drivers door.
Final piece of the puzzle - the red light in the drivers door does not work either nor does the drivers door button panels light up. Starting to wonder is there a fuse or quirky power supply problem somewhere.

Our 2001 Prius has recently been having problems with the steering wheel locking (not in a position where this would be normal/expected, but in random positions--takes several minutes of wiggling and turning the car on and off to get it unlocked) and the key getting stuck in the ignition (just as if the car weren't in park, except that it is). They might be unrelated, but started occurring at the same time.

My 2010 Santa Fe has had a AC problem since one week of ownership - when it is raining and I drive the car more than 10-15 mins - the AC stops blowing cool air. My dealer has seen the problem first hand - but has no solution for it. Last fall they replaced a faulty accuator - wasn't able to test it our since was fall... but doing it again since the warm weather has started.

Just got home from grabbing a bite to eat and notice that there was a puddle of water sitting in the garage. I had it parked there for about 2 hours after coming from a three hour trip, but not once did I used the ac. The day before the car was outside in the rain. Is this normal for the Camry?

I am concerned about a water puddle that forms under my Camry, I drive it then I park it the garage , and the next day there is a puddle of water, under the passenger side. I use the air condition. And was thinking that maybe it was the condensation from the air condensation. I keep check the antifreeze level , so its not that. I don't know of anything else it could be.

Mon. Dec. 12 Cincinnati had record 1.95" rain. I hit a puddle (which I later found out was 1' deep) with my 2011 TDI. A wave of water came up over hood & turbocharger sucked it into the engine. Stalled out, wouldn't restart. Towed to dealer, they said have to replace engine. Ins. Adjuster saw that, other water damage, totaled car. Santa gave me a 2012 red Golf TDI.

I have a 2001.5 Passat with the ATQ v6 and 5-sp manual tranny. A few weeks ago when I drove it up to Chicago, the heat completely stopped working. Cool air was coming out of the vents. Then when I drove back to Texas, the heater started working again. Now as of yesterday, the heater's out again. My temp sensor has the engine at 190 F, so I don't think it's overheating. One thing I do notice though is when I first start it and shift from first to second (or if I go over a speed bump), I will hear a water sloshing sound as if I'd hit a puddle. Whether it's the heater core that's blocked or perhaps the thermostat?

I drive a '98 Chevrolet Prizm with 205K miles on it. It drives perfectly fine except in heavy rain/snow. In those cases, I've noticed that as soon as I drive through a big puddle (i.e., get the undercarriage wet, it seems), my car won't accelerate above 35 or 40 mph. If I attempt to push it faster, the engine (?) makes a terrible roaring sound, frankly like it's going to die on me. Interestingly, if I pull over, turn off the car, let it "dry out" for a couple of minutes, and then restart it, it drives fine once again (assuming, of course, that I don't hit anymore wet patches).
I first noticed this problem about 2 years ago during the winter when, on one occasion, it had just snowed heavily and I drove through a particularly sludgy patch on the highway. Since then, I've only had the problem recur a few times, typically during monsoon-like rains. However, more recently, I've noticed the problem wanting to occur even during medium-to-heavy rains. The car will start making growling noises in those wet conditions; however, if I keep pushing the car at highway speeds, eventually the sound goes away rather than crescendo-ing to the really scary roaring noise. I'm going to hazard a guess that by continuing to drive my car at highway speeds, even when it starts growling, it dries out whatever part is getting wet and thus getting "irritated".
In sum, it sounds like my car is becoming more sensitive to and/or more exposed to moisture.

1999 Olds Alero with 2.4 L engine...
Everyday when I back out of my parking spot, there is a large puddle of antifreeze under the car, mid point near the firewall. I have to add 1 liter of antifreeze a week/100 kms. I am thinking it is a "low pressure" leak, cause when it is running, there is no major spray noticeable. Weird. So I have done some reading and can only guess that it is my water pump that is shot.
After getting the estimate from the local garage of $ 700.00 (mostly labour) for a $ 100.00 water pump, I am going to tackle this one myself. Can't believe Oldsmobile did just a crazy thing like hiding the water pump so deep into the caverns on a 2.4L.
I am not overly concerned with this bigger puzzle, but want to be sure before I get it all apart and tie up the prime spot in the garage called the "wife's parking spot". Got to get it in and out quick. Will I need any specialty tools, for things like removing the timing gears or anything else that is goofy on this repair job.
