I hear a knocking sound or a rumbling sound underneath feet area of my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe when driving over bumpy roads or when traveling over a "washboard" type of road. Shocks & struts appear OK.
Could it be a bad swaybar bushing? How difficult would it be to change on my own? What else could it be? Looking for a schematic for this vehicle to check out all types of bushings?
Vehicle makes a rattling sound underneath (mid/rear end area?) when hit bumps and mechanic said may be the anti-sway bar (or front struts). What is that and how important is it to fix? Vehicle has 108,000 miles.
View 2 RepliesFor the last two days I've had a very intermittent (tck, tck, tck) sound coming from what sounds like the glove compartment area. It has a rep rate of around three times a second and is very regular. It sounds like a relay to me. It has only lasted less than 20 seconds on each occurrence so don't have time to troubleshoot. I took that area apart and I see two 12volt 25 amp what look like relays just to the right of the glove compartment. I've left that area torn apart so if it happens again I can feel the relays and get it down to one-and or eliminate them as the cause of the noise.

There is a steady noise which sounds like it is coming from underneath in the center of the car. The noise is consistent at speeds up to 50 kmh (maximum speed where I live). 2003 Santa Fe 2.7l ....
View 6 RepliesAs stated in the title, my feet stay cold for a long time after the car fully warms up, and I can't feel much if any airflow under the dash. I tried going from auto to directing all flow to the floor, zero change, even with the fan on high.
View 11 RepliesWhen I am slowing down my speed in my 2012 Santa Fe SE and about 0-1 mph, there is a "click" sound that comes from the shifter of the transmission. It can be duplicated.
While this may be perfectly normal, I have only begun to both HEAR it and FEEL it. (at 10,000 miles) it never was this prevalent.
Is it a solenoid?
Is it a switch?
Is it potentially bad news?

I live in Michigan and we recently had a 8 inch snowfall. While parking my 2010 Prius it bottomed on the snow pile which took two pieces of black plastic off of the underneath front area of my car. I assume the plastic is for aerodynamics.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2001 v6 Santa fe. Cold air leaks into the front passenger side foot area when driving. Seems to be coming in the right portion of the area.
We can turn the heater on floor, so hot air blows, but the cold air is still there. Hot on left from the heater and cold on right. If we change the heater off of floor the cold still comes in. So it doesn't seem to be the heater system.
For a couple of weeks, when i put my car in reverse and also sometimes in first, I hear a weird clunking sound coming from under/around my feet when i release the clutch and start taking off....is the clutch gone or going soon???
View 5 Replies2011 Hyundai Elantra, 42k miles. The car is my girlfriends which I drive once every few weeks. Yesterday I noticed a rumbling noise coming from the right front tire area. The noise only comes about when turning a fairly sharp left while above 20 mph. Taking a left onto a side street etc doesn't cause any noise, but taking one while going through a big intersection etc. Where the speed is up a little bit causes the noise. The tires are original, obviously not new, but they still have a decent amount of tread left on them, they're Continental Pro Contacts.
Tire, ball-joint, brake pad rubbings? I'm going to take it to get looked at tomorrow, I did spray the area with a hose in case there was something caught in there, but that didn't change anything. The tire looks fine, no abnormal wear or bulges, the car is in alignment and makes no other noise except in the circumstance noted.
I have a vibration sound coming from just under my feet. Its not all the time, but about twice a week itll start. Wont stop until ive parked and turned off the truck. The vibration intensifies with speed of the road, not RPM. Stops when the truck is stopped, then picks back up as soon as i go. It usually stops or atleasts gets a lot quieter when i get to highway speeds.
Now, it will only make the sound in 2H, when i switch to 4H/4L, the sound completely disappears. But as soon as I put it back into 2H, it starts right back up.
I drive a 2013 F150, 33000KM and has a level kit. Any thoughts?
My daughter asked me to look at & listen to a horrible grinding noise coming from the upper right area of her Santa Fe's rear hatch. There was a plastic grinding noise coming from THIS:
It's the lock actuator for the rear hatch.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it makes that horrible plastic grinding noise.
I recently changed my ATF. I refilled with Hyundai SP-III like a good little boy. The ATF fluid level is correct. It's right in the "Hot" range when the car is idling at operating temp.
Now, when I back out of my driveway when the vehicle is totally cold, then put in Drive, I hear a slight knocking sound after I get about 50 feet away. It's a single knock, not very loud, but discernible. If I drive even 1/2 mile and try again (i.e. back up a bit, then put it back in Drive), I can't reproduce it. It's only when the car is first backed out and driven away.
I have around 15K left on the warranty. I'd feel silly bringing it to the dealer for this, unless someone knew of an issue this might be a symptom of.
I'm trying to figure out a small leak on my mothers' Santa Fe. Recently I smelled coolant after my mother had gone for a long drive. I checked the Radiator and overflow... need maybe 1 qt of coolant.
Now I'm trying to find the cause of the missing coolant ! While it's running, I see no leak. Shut it off and it starts to drip from a small plastic tube on the firewall inside the engine bay area (on the passenger side). It drips down onto a rubber boot covering some steering stuff. Is this from the heater core?
So I'm working on a customers car, its a 2001 Passat, there is a buzzing sound that started when she would use her left turn signal, and now the sound wont stop, the only way to make it stop is to turn the car off, turn the blinker on, or the flashers. I'm thinking the Turn signal switch inside the steering area.
View 2 RepliesHyundai Elantra 01 GLS. The main problem is that the airbag light is on and stays on no matter what. This is my girlfriends old car and she tells me that a couple people told her it had something to do with a faulty/corroded connection or something like that... I have been working on this car for about a year and I am finally to the point where I am just ironing out the little kinks. The old engine was bad along with a lot of other stuff, and I swapped it out for a good motor with less miles on it.
I also have recently replaced the alternator and instrument cluster just to name a couple repairs. Now the two things that I want to get settled are the airbag light and the check engine light. The check engine light comes on sometimes and I am almost positive it either needs a new 02 sensor or cat since when it was ran through a code reader those were the two options my mechanic told me it could be. I also hear a gurgling/crackling faint sound coming from the drivers side dashboard/engine area. I am not sure what this is. How can I get the airbag light off ?
So for the last week my Civic has been making a low, rumbling sound (almost like an overly powerful bass system) and vibrating whenever the car is idling. The noise is most pronounced when the car is started but continues when I am driving, but only when I take my foot off of the gas. Whenever I accelerate, the noise stops. Also, the noise is very faint from outside of the car, but very pronounced from inside. What could be causing this?
View 2 RepliesSanta fe developed a noise underneath that rattles up to the gear shift. It happens mostly when you take your foot off the gas but can happen if your just cruising. Engine does not make any noise while revving it or under load in drive with foot on brake. Definitely sounds rotational but all looks ok underneath.
View 2 RepliesI have an 07 with 81.5K miles. Just a few weeks ago I've noticed a "rumbling" sound when starting the car in the morning before my AM commute. To me it sounds like an exhaust issue. This sound is becoming more frequent and now occurs most of the time while I drive. The volume has not increased, only frequency. The engine sounds ok, and no lights or indicators are showing.
MPG performance is down from 45-50MPG to about 40MPG but I think this may be because it's been extremely cold here lately and maybe the gasoline bladder has shrunk? Anyways, what this could be? If it's an exhaust issue could it require replacing the entire exhaust system because it's a hybrid (one mechanic friend I have said this might be the case)? Could it be something as simple as getting a new muffler?
We have a 2013 Tiguan, bought new, that every now and then makes a low rumbling sound when accelerating from around 30-35mph. The car seems otherwise fine, hasn't turned up any problems at its regular service checks, and has been doing this occasionally since we first got it.
It seems to happen only after the car has been recently started for the first time that day, and typically happens if I'm accelerating up into the 30's, start to slow down again and then resume accelerating. It's a brief rumbling that goes away, and usually doesn't happen again, especially once the engine's warm. I've been trying to pay attention to when it happens, and it does seem to be associated with cold or rainy days, but I need it to happen a few more times to say that for sure.
