Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Rear Suspension Failure After Recall Check

May 1, 2013

My 02 Santa Fe was checked after recall notice November 2011- and passed- On 20th April 2013 sudden failure of drivers side rear suspension - fortunately no fatalities and no third party involved-The passenger and car was brought home on a low loader by the RAC. Notified the Hyundai Recall Administrator and was passed onto the Consumer Service Team- Sent the requested car information and pictures of the corroded rear suspension the same day. Was told the person dealing with this is going on Holiday- Result so far- Car still on my drive and no further interest from Hyundai- Not sure what to do next?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - Rear Suspension Squeaks

2004 Santa Fe, 2.4L auto, 133k miles that I just purchased. I've just been getting all of the maintenance up to par before driving it, I noticed the suspension makes a decent amount of noise when going over any kind of bump. The rear end makes a squeaking noise, which I think is from the trailing arm bushings. The trailing arms look like this:

When looking at the bracket where the big bushings goes, it looks like the arm is almost touching the one side instead of being centered like it should be. I'm thinking the bushing is just shot and allowed the arm to be pulled rearward. I know 01-03 had a recall for rusting trailing arms, but that doesn't work with my 04.

Other various creaking noises I'm thinking are coming from the sway bar bushings and links. Control arm bushings still look solid. Might replace the rear shocks if I have to with some KYB's.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Drive Shaft Failure / Whining Sound

So I own a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2.7. I am the fourth owner and currently there is 168k miles on the vehicle. I purchased the car with around 110k miles on it and have had it for nearly 5 years now.

Aside from general maintenance I have never had a single issue with it, until last weekend. On the way back home from a road trip I began to notice a whining sound, and then very abruptly the car shook and I lost control of the vehicle and had to pull over on the shoulder. I was on the highway and was VERY fortunate to not have gotten into an accident.

After inspecting carefully I discovered my 4WD Drive Shaft was literally hanging by a thread. The knuckles were ruined, and in the process my Transfer Case and Exhaust System were all severely damaged.

Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Squeaking Noise From Rear End - Suspension?

Rear end Suspension noise, '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T? I purchased a new '13 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T in Sept. 2013. Shortly after I noticed the rear end of the car creaks/squeaks when the suspension compresses thru it's travel. This happens when driving over tall speed bumps at 2-3mph or into/out of steep driveways at 2-3mph. Rear end noise/squeak at anytime?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: GLS Making A Loud Noise When Being Driven - Spring / Strut Failure

I got a call from the wife at work telling me the vehicle was making a loud noise when being driven. I told her it was a bit hard for me to diagnose since I was at work and to leave it parked till I got home. She really had to go out so she decided to drive it a short distance and come home.

I got home and discovered the drivers side spring was sitting on top of the inside of the front tire. The spring had done a superb machining job of the tire tread to the point I was amazed that the tire still held air. Anyway long story short the beast is in the shop having both front springs and struts, tires etc. being replaced. The spring actually broke.

I just bring this to the group as I did a search on google and this is not an uncommon, occurrence on these santys. We /she are just lucky this happened at a low rate of speed,as a highway speed incident like this would not have been pretty.

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Rattle In The Rear Suspension When Go Over Rough Surfaces

When I go over bumps or rough surfaces I hear a rattle in the rear suspension. It sounds similar to the noise bad ball joints make. I recently had the car aligned and the shop said they couldn't find anything wrong. I'm going to take a look myself but was wondering if this might be a common problem. If maybe there are certain bushing that are known to wear out.

Ford Brakes/Suspension :: 2001 F150 - Rear Brake Lights Not Working

I have a 2001 F150. Front brakes replaced a few months ago. Last night, I realized my rear brake lights weren't working. I'm not sure how long they've been out or if it's related to the bigger problem.

While testing the brake lights by pressing the brake pedal, the pedal seemed to give out and sink lower. While driving the brakes worked but only when I pushed the pedal all the way in. Eventually the ABS light came on and stayed on.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Codes For Check Engine Light

My '04 santa fe 3.5 v6 gls/lx, 79k miles, gas, auto, check light has just come on while I was driving a less than 10 mile journey. How can I check what is wrong. Do I need some sort of diagnostic code checker. Do any national outlets check it for free (Pep Boys or Auto Zone, etc).

Just 5 days ago (about 50 miles only) I had timing belt, water pump, plugs and leads replaced, brakes checked and lubes flushed; BUT not at above dealers. I would rather know what the code is saying before I go back to the shop who carried out the work.

Touareg :: Air Suspension Failure At 70K Miles?

Was driving on some segmented highway concrete that send my front end into quite a thrashing. Slowed down quite a bit and it settle down some but nothing like that before. Pain attention to ride but it feels OK, corners, etc. BUT, over the past few weeks, I've noticed that it has become quite sensitive to sharp transitions (BOTS dots a.k.a. line markers, driveways, etc. so I have a suspicion that one or more of the air spring assemblys has possibly failed or a leak.

It's like the equivalent of a worn out strut. The car hold up. Raises and lowers, etc. But I can't push down on the car to test the response of the suspension like a standard strut car. What is the expected life of the air suspension? And cost to replace pair or all four. Not looking forward to the possible expenses.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Check Engine Light Has Come On - Codes P0501 And P1529

I have a 2002 SF GLS/LX (?) with 2.7 L V6 2WD (60,000 miles) and it started to apply the ABS brakes in a random manner. Found out it was caused by a broken front wheel tone ring. So, I pulled the ABS fuse under the dash and it stopped the brake problem. Drove it today to pick up some wood and now the check engine light has come on.

My neighbor has an OBD scanner and he plugged it in and said I have a P0501 code and a P1529 code, but he didn't know what they meant. What they mean and are they related to me pulling the fuse under the dash? Did I pull the wrong fuse? Is there another fuse somewhere that I should have pulled?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2002 V6 AWD Check Engine Light Stays On After Replacing ECM

My 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L V6 AWD failed to start a week ago. After towing to my neighborhood repair shop, it was diagnosed as a faulty ECM based on code P560 (System Voltage Problem). They replaced the ECM (along with relay) with a used one with the exact same part#. After that, the car was started and run OK but Check Engine Light stays on all the time. The codes displayed are:

P1529 TCU MIL Request Signal
P0501 VSS Range Performance

I was told that this is caused by the fact that each ECM is VIN/PIN locked. The replacing ECM was used in another car before and was locked with a different VIN thus cannot communicate with some components of the current car.

My questions are:

Can this used ECM be unlocked and relocked with a new VIN/PIN? If so, does it require the previous VIN/PIN to unlock? Most likely the previous VIN/PIN is no longer available.

Does this service require the presence of the car or can it be done with the ECM alone? Do keys need to be re-registered? The car starts fine currently.

Passat (B5) :: Clunking From Suspension - Symptoms Of Control Arm Failure

I have a quick question about the control arms on the B5. I have an 01 Passat GLX 4motion, the was previously my mothers. She had the upper arms (iirc) replaced around 60k but not all of them. I got the car with 64k from her, and it now has 92k of mostly highway miles. I have a few clunks from the suspension but nothing crazy, and considering the shocks and dampers are probably shot i cant seem to tell if its the arms or the shocks.
