My 2001 Santa Fe 2,4l - Have suddenly lost the abillity to shift gear. Its stuck in 2 and the shift stick is very loose in the "front to back and back to front" motion.. in other words there are resistance sideways.
I suspect it to be a broken shift cable. So my question is : changing shift cable on a santa fe easy? Is the best approach to start from inside the vehicle or from transmission side?
My 2003 made a sharp mechanical noise one day, next thing I knew it lost the ability to shift out of 2nd gear....Now, it can still shift into 2nd gear when cold, but only after holding rpm for a bit and then suddenly jerking into 2nd gear. Once it's warmed up for a few minutes though, after dropping out of 2nd gear, that's it! Then it's stuck in 1st gear the rest of the time. Reverse doesn't work anymore at any time, and it gave me code P0732 to P0734 which should be gears 2 - 4. Is it possible that not being to get out of 1st means 2nd gear is broken, but the other 2 are okay and it just can't get shift past 2nd? Or might all 3 have problems after all?

After changing the alternator (alternator did die and drained my battery, the shop recharged the battery) now it seems be stuck in 3rd gear and does not wont to shift (it is a automatic). Fluids are good, transmission was flushed between 50-60,000 miles.
View 3 RepliesThis is a car i am working on. 01 4motion passat. automatic. Tree fell on it. We put a new roof, quarter, door seats. Last night we moved it outside to clean the shop and went to move it back in. Won't shift out of park. Next tried turning ignition on the backing it off a little and cant get to neutral. Check fuses.
Brake light switch has been previously replaced by someone. and it works. Light next to gear selector working. brake lights fine. I have taken the center console out as much as I can. I can't get it completely out. But everything in there seems ok. When I press the brake in I don't hear any click or anything near the selector.
Its not my car but my sister in laws. She stopped by our house tonight to pick up her kids and when she put the car in drive it showed both drive and 2nd gear. we tried disconnecting the battery so she could at least get it home (3 min away) but it didn't change anything.
She left with it still in 2nd thinking she could make the short drive without any problems but half way home it shifted down to first and it wasn't even driveable. Everything i have read on the web (which was not really specific to the santa fe) was say that its stuck in safe mode. What could have cause the problem? So far no check engine light has come on.

View 1 RepliesI have an 01 and 02 santa f. I took the v6 out of 01-and put in the 02.put new gaskets on engine new timing belt etc. Got engine in and runs like a champ. But the tranny which looks new I assume its been replaced. It starts out in 2 or 3 all the time want shift into od. Reverse works. So I found one plug dangling I couldn't figure out where it went then i found it. It plugged up on top of tranny. Well now it starts out in first and shifts through all the gears. Drove it down the rd shifted fine. Turned around and put in reverse then when i went to drive it jerked real hard. Shifted out fine so I went to floor it to make it kick down and it jerked again. This time it was hung in 3 or drive cause when I pulled into my driveway it was in high gear and u can put it in manual mode and the light only goes to second and d when it acts up like this. So i killed the car started back up and know it will go into first in manual mode and shift out and do fine?
View 3 RepliesSo my wife's santa fe will randomly get stuck in 3rd gear and not shift up or down (automatically or manually). It does not appear to be slipping as it speeds up slows down fine. The check engine light is on but have not read the codes yet.

View 7 RepliesI have two codes P0760 and P0755, malfunction shift solenoid B and C, today I took it to Hyundai here in queens ny, I was told that It would cost e 2684.00 to fix my issue, I can't believe that if those two codes are the problem why would it cost 2684.00 ? Where are these solenoids located?
The car feels like your one of the flintstones, it's stuck in 3rd gear and cant get out, then it jerks when it tries to shift, tranny oil is fine not burnt like if the clutches are gone.
I have a 2002 Santa Fe V6 2.7 liter, FWD, 215,000+ miles. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd the whole vehicle jerks. It does not do this on the other gears. I took it by a transmission place for a free scan and they said the transmission is fine.
View 19 RepliesMy V10's steering column has lost the ability to adjust up and down. In and out is still fine though and the position memory works, just for in and out too. I was thinking that a fuse may have gone but I can't see a fuse dedicated to this in the manual. No doubt it'll be something much more complicated than that though.

View 1 RepliesLast week my wife's 2004 Santa Fe with 68k went into limp mode, when I ran the code reader it came up with throttle position sensor and pedal position sensor. After fixing both the car runs great except for a Grabby or sudden shift from 2nd to 3rd. It shifts at about the right rpm but very hard. I am wondering if there is trans codes that need to be reset that my code reader is not able to do.

View 8 RepliesHave an 02 Auto with the 2.7, 4wheel drive, and it doesn't shift into 5th gear. Can go through the 4 gears with the manual shift, but when just in drive, only shifts up to 4th. At 65mph, RPM's over 2500.
View 3 RepliesI have a 99 F250 5.4l 4x4 Super Duty that just all of a sudden stopped going over 30mph. I was traveling down the highway at 70mph and all of a sudden the truck acted as if it were in neutral and started revving up. i let off the gas and the problem stopped. i went to pass someone and it occurred again. I slowed down to 65mph and a couple minutes later it did it again. I wasn't too far from home so i drove it there. By the time i got around the corner I had the truck in second gear to prevent me from going over 25mph. i allowed the truck to rest and then checked the transmission fluid and everything looked good. There was a slight squeak that had just started and appeared to be coming from the drive shaft. I am mechanically inclined but new to working on vehicles..

I can adjust the fan speed and the defrost/dash vents/foot heater position controls, but no matter how far I turn the cold/hot dial left or right, the temp is the same. Even in the Max and Norm A/C setting, it's the same temp, which is stuck in the hot range.

View 3 Replies1996 dakota v8 automatic 4x4. tranny rebuilt 3 years ago got stuck in the mud and every since then it is stuck in first. wont shift no matter what i tried to adjust the tv cable and it didn't work at all. don't know much about dodge transmissions iv always worked on 4l60e in chevys. I don't know were to start. Where to start. iv been reading about the governor valve and shift selnoids are there any way to test any of this? first pulls strong and reverse works
View 1 RepliesI read a couple posts on Gear Shift switching back to neutral. Here is my situation. Got in the car to return some movies and realized I left them on the table. Went back to the house, and right before I turned into the driveway, noticed a metal coffee cup had come out of the holder and the edge was up under the accelerator. I had been applying my brakes to slow for the turn into the driveway, then when I went to accelerate, nothing, then noticed the cup.
Removed the cup and stepped on the gas to go into the driveway. Nothing. Turned the car off, then back on and tried to put into drive, goes a tiny bit then slips back into neutral. Tried it in reverse, same thing, pops back into neutral.
I can hold the shift lever in position and the car moves. It's in the driveway now and will get towed to the Toyota dealer tomorrow. Obviously a problem with the shifter as a result of the "coffee cup" under the edge of the accelerator. And yes, I know it's dangerous, hubby used the car last on his visit home this weekend and apparently the coffee cup either got put down on the floorboard or was knocked out. I bring it in the home when I'm done.....anyway.
So, the most likely cause was the spring talked about in other posts breaking, or a switch sticking or what. Seems like something got knocked or shifted out of adjustment. Does the accelerator have some type of cut off switch if something gets lodged under it?
