I was getting something from the Santa Fe last night and noticed that the interior lights didn't come on when I opened the door. Further investigation found that they don't illuminate with any of the four doors (despite the door ajar light coming on in the dash), but the lights do come on when set to "ON", so the bulbs and fuse(s) are fine. The model year is 2001.
View 2 Replies2001 Honda Accord 4 cylinder... At 256K miles I had the battery and open doors, open trunk lights illuminate intermittently. Initially the lights came on for 1/2 mile. 150 miles later it was more like 20 miles on, off for a mile, on for 40 miles, off for 25 miles, on for 10 miles, and then off. A Honda dealer ( after the first 20 miles of battery light being on and 70 miles from home) replaced the battery and the lights came back on a mile down the road. I managed to get home. With engine running running battery voltage was 14.4 volts. The light stayed off for 30 miles the next day. AutoZone found no diagnostic codes. A mechanic told me that the battery light could be intermittent with a failing alternator. I changed the alternator (cracked case). The voltmeter again showed 14.4 volts with engine running. Will the car return to reliability?

All of the lights work when the dimmer switch is flipped and when the individual switches are flipped on. The lights also turn on automatically when ignition is turned in the off position after running. Where should I begin to look to get this resolved?
View 8 RepliesI've got an '05 burb that for a couple weeks now the interior lights will not come on when you open any doors. Just tonight I went to start it and it took a couple tries and finally did, but I noticed that the clock had been reset almost like the battery had been drained.
I drove it to my destination and just let it run for about 30 min thinking it needed to charge (nothing had drained it that was obvious to me). I had to go back out and it did the same thing, started hesitantly and the clock had been reset.
I have a '00 Ford ranger and a '99 f-150 , when leaving the doors open , interior lights go off after 10-15 minutes in the ranger but not on my 150. Is there a relay or something aftermarket that makes this possible on the 150 ?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Excursion V10 4WD Eddie Bauer edition. Within the past month I have noticed that the interior dome lights and running board lights don't always come on when I open the doors. The dimmer switch is set to the highest level without being turned on and all of the dashboard lights work. I turn the dimmer switch on and sometimes the interior lights work and sometimes they don't. The door switch seems to be in good shape as well. If I turn the dome lights on individually they work so I know that there is not a problem with the bulbs. Where I can look for the problem?

Looking for a pic of your interior roof lighting? (Not the center console one near the sunroof control...that of course lights up and shows icons.) I'm looking for the ones towards the rear of the car.
I just got myself 07 santa fe. Have small problem though. When I open the door interior lights are not going on, doesn't matter which door are open it is not working but I can turn them on manually, so fuse is fine I guess. What my be a cause of it?
View 16 RepliesI have a 2000 E150 (Glavel Conversion) van and the interior lights do not illuminate when the doors are opened, although they used to. They also no longer turn on from the headlight dimmer switch. They will turn on individually if the manual switch at each light is pressed while the engine is running, so the bulbs and wiring appear to be working. I replaced the headlight switch with no noticeable effect. Is there a timing circuit that switches these on for a short period of time to allow illuminated entry that could have failed? If so, where would I find the module and how would I test? Relays and fuses look good.

While driving tonight, the interior lights started blinking. Which was kind of odd. Apparently when this happens, the tail lights (but not headlights) go out.
I did a quick bit of research on it and apparently there is a "bus" that goes bad and causes this. What is a "bus"? And how do I replace it? Is it something like a fuse that is getting corroded?
Also ... I think there may be something up with the a/c. When I turn on the A/C or defroster (any setting that activates the compressor), I smell a burning rubber smell in the dash. I'm not seeing the belt slip on the compressor and not hearing any slippage but there is a definite burning rubber smell. When the HVAC is on something that does not activate the AC Compressor (top vent) we do not get the smell.
Lastly, there are some transmission issues it seems. There is a shift flare between the 2-3 shift and the 3-OD shift sometimes is very firm/abrupt ... it appears to be locking the torque converter during a very hard shift.
I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 327,000+ miles on it (the speedometer doesn't work any longer - another problem).
Last July/Aug (2012) I had the driver window fixed (didn't go up or down) after it was fixed all the interior lights stopped working...dome light, map lights...they will not work automatically by opening a door nor manually. Even the rear hatch light will not turn on. Its not the fuse.
I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The other day while driving, and today after just starting up, the car makes a whining noise, multiple lights on the dash illuminate (charge, all door open indicators, brake, and brake light bulb indicator) and when I open the hood I can smell a slight burning smell. I thought maybe something was frozen, but the belt is not unusually warm, and all the pulleys I can see are turning.

View 7 RepliesIf I have the switch set for the lights to turn on when I open the doors, they don't turn off when the doors are shut they just stay on all of the time. Also, sometimes they don't work at all and sometimes they do. My 12v outlet doesn't work either but I am guessing it's the fuse..

View 16 RepliesInterior lights are sometimes staying on for 30 minutes after all doors have been closed. Thought it was the back hatch, but now seems to be random. I've cleaned the latches and lubricated with no luck. What else could be causing this?? A relay, computer.

My 2008 Elite has a door that won't open. The rear door on the driver's side.
It is an Australian Elite model. I can hear the click when the remote is pressed. How can I get the door open to remove the intyerior trim?
Before you all say it, yes I have made sure that the "door" button has been pushed. The front done light will work when I turn on the individual map lights. However when I open the front doors they no longer automatically come on. I am going to bring it to the dealer ( I am assuming it is a faulty "door" switch) just wanted to see what you all thought before I bring it to them.
View 95 RepliesI have a 1995 Dodge Caravan le which is in perfect condition throughout. But recently the interior lights stopped working when the doors are opened and when the keyless entry thing is activated. The overhead lights do work when manually pressed but the dashboard switch that is supposed to turn them on when in the far right position doesn't do anything. If I hold the drivers door open and push in the activation button on the door jam, I can hear the relay clicking but nothing happens. My mechanic said he thinks it might be a bad computer part and will replace it but didn't really want to. I can't find a fuse for the interior lights so don?

We just bought a 2003 Windstar SE, the door ajar indicator is on on the dash all the time but the courtesy/dome lights don't come on with any of the doors open. The lights will come on manually with the headlight switch? I am pretty sure these are controlled by the GEM module.
