Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Headlights Dim When AC Cycles
Aug 31, 2014
My wife usually doesn't drive at night, but I had her car for the evening and I noticed that when the AC cycles her headlights dim momentarily. I took the car to advance and they said it was a bad battery, I replaced the battery and it still does it.
I had them check the charging system after I replaced the battery, and it checked out. What could cause this, alternator??

I have an 04 SF with about 160K on it. Normally, the engine temp is just under the mid mark. Yesterday, on my drive home, the temp climbed to just under the redline, then declined to slightly above the mid mark, repeating this process several times. Each cycle took about 2-3 minutes. I was driving uphill at 20-30 mph.
I thought maybe the coolant temp sensor had gone bad. But I checked the OBD codes and found nothing there referring to the sensor. This morning, I let it idle in the drive, and the radiator fan turned on after the engine warmed. Coolant was a little low (there seems to be a slight leak somewhere), and I added some.
What could cause the temp to cycle up and down like that?

My 2004 Santa Fe has something failing, but I need to know which direction to go. When the defroster or air conditioner is turned on the idol fades momentarily and my headlights dim. This does not happen when the heater, alone, is on.
This is my 2nd Santa Fe; I have my 2003 in my barn. The transmission gave out at 204K miles and this one was in my neighborhood so I just swapped. So, I have lots of parts.

When the headlights are on the left turn signal stays on(but does not blink). The right turn signal functions ok. With the headlights off both signals function normally. The headlights work correctly.
This issue happened once a year ago but just started reoccurring two days ago.

Low beams don't work. The fuses are fine (under the dash, and in the engine compartment) and the bulbs look good. The fact that both went out at the same time has me wondering. One post on this forum for something not related mentioned a headlight relay behind the fuse panel?

I have problems with my SF 2002. When i turn on my headlights, the instruments panel (odometer, shifts indicator and others) has no lights. Turning off them, the shift indicator lights again.
I have notice that when days ago, i have changed my radio the problem began. Maybe the problem is related with this.

My dash lights have a weird glitch when the headlights are on. I can hear a click and the dash lights will go out and immediately back on almost like a blink.

The headlight beam height can be adjusted from inside the car. But even when not fiddling with the dial, I hear an electric motor sounding noise from them time to time, just a short <1s whirring sound. I listen with the bonnet open and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the headlights. Is this normal? is there any way I can stop it?

Looking for a tip on how to remove headlights. I have followed owners manual for my '08 Sante Fe Ltd on removing the two screws on top and retaining nut on back of light and unplugging the wire harness but the---- thing doesn't want to slide out. Is there a clip or screw that I am overlooking? I have watched the video on the Sonata. It feels tight on the tapered side(turn signal). I afraid of muscling it too much because there is so much plastic.

2007 SE. When the car downshifts the head lights dim for a few seconds. I have a 2007 santa se. one mechanic i know says it could be a ground problem or a electronic transmission control.

I have a 2.7L Santa Fe 7 seat automatic in Shanghai, China, imported new from Korea in 2007.
When it is raining outside with the air conditioning turned on and then I turn the headlights on, the A/C goes off. there are no lights on the console and the fans stop blowing. If I turn the headlights off again the A/C works again.

My headlights worked on Tuesday. Wednesday night driving home I put my headlights on and neither is working. My brake lights, directional and highbeams work. The only thing that doesn't is the headlights.
I replaced both headlights and still not working. I purchase fuses 15A and switch the fuses which were blown and it resulted in my horn going off. I had someone check with a gauge and there is power in the light socket. We tried to replace the fuse again and the horn went off. We removed the fuse for the horn and replaced the fuses for the headlights and the horn still went off even though the fuse was missing.
The mechanic, checked my fuse box and wires around it and was not able to determine the issue.

I have a 2008 Hyundai Santa fe and have recently had both low beam headlights go out. The running lights and high beams still both work. I read both bulbs as sat 0.5ohm(left) and 0.5ohm(right). Connections were right. I also read fuses in engine compartment HLP LO for both RH and LH. Still I swapped them both with the HHP HI and both worked for high beams but no change for low,on,either side. My next idea is the switch but I am not sure how to test it.

I have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe and wonder if the instrument panel lights only come on when the headlights are on? It sure is annoying not to have the instrument panel lit up.

2008 Santa Fe Limited .... Car won't start. It has a new battery and alternator, new wires running to the battery. When I try to start it, there is no click and the headlights and dash lights go dim (they were very bright) then go back to bright when I stop trying to start the car. The same thing happens when I try to jump the car (using a car I have jump started this one with before). It has a Viper remote start and car alarm. When I first try to open the door it sounds like the factory alarm is going off, not the Viper one (and the Viper way of disabling the alarm with the valet switch doesn't work). The alarm seems to stop when I try to start the car, but not always. What could be wrong?

The normal lo-beams won't turn on no matter what I do, but the brights still work. The bulbs are good, the fuses are good. I've tested and changed those. They're good. 2008 Santa Fe ....

Both of my 2011 Santa Fe's headlamps (high and low) are not working. The fuses seem to be ok (ohm meter checked) and so do the relays (swapped with other relays). When I switch the lights on to the first position, I hear the relay for the 'parking' lights switch on and those lights work. When I move it to the headlight or auto positions, I don't hear the headlight relays click in.
Is there a schematic/parts location/troubleshooting diagram anywhere (they are not on the HMA web site)? Is there a known connector/wiring issue? I just found a diagram for the multifunction switch on steering wheel, with a pin out of the connector, but that's all I have. This will be hard to trace without some idea of where the wires are going.

My girlfriend has a 2014 Santa Fe Sport, and she usually leaves the headlights "on" because they turn off shortly after she locks her car or whatnot. For some reason, they don't ALWAYS turn off. Probably 30% of the time they stay on. Well, it was super cold this weekend and he car wouldn't start remotely, so we took mine instead. But lo and behold, her battery is completely dead.
Is there something that would cause these to stay on only sometimes? She's going to start turning on and off, but the intermittent part seems odd to me.

Had the following problems with my 2009 Santa Fe: Audio system would randomly reset when playing MP3 from USB drive, Headlights would dim/flicker when bakes depressed, LED lights on dash would flicker, random stalling while driving. Finally just died and would not start. The Hazard lights would not work only a bit of buzzing from the relay. Checked Battery, connectors, etc. All looked good. Measured voltage at fusebox (inside) and found it dropped from 12v to 4v when I put the hazard switch on. Showed there was a connection problem of some kind.
Finally used a jumper cable from the battery negative terminal to an ground point inside the cabin. Bingo that fixed all the problems, car started, lights were good, hazards worked. As a permanent fix I ran a wire from where the negative terminal of the battery connects to the frame, then drilled a hole in the firewall and ran the wire into the cabin. Connected the wire to a ground point in the cabin. Used a heavy gauge stranded wire. you can try this out with lamp cord as a temporary fix, but I'd use something heavier for a permanent fix. All problems have gone. No flickering, no stalling... This may be a problem on other models from what I've read in some forums (unexplained stalling - check the grounding in the cabin..).

This is second time that this happened to me.I used to happy owner of Integra with 220,000 of mileage. Couple of months back, I replaced CV axle and MTF in tranny. On the two hour long trip, I noticed my engine was overheating. I stopped my car, let it cool and refill it with water. I unscrew the radiator cap(carefully) I and noticed that small bubbles were coming up.I rented a block tester from Autozone and discovered that these bubbles are exhaust gases.
Car ran like a dream for about a months. However, about two weeks ago I noticed that car would start up with more hesitation(3-4 cycles before it would actually start after keyturn). About a week ago I noticed that engine would also start somewhat rough. It all culminated when I was stuck yesterday with plumes of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. The engine shook violently as if was running on one cylinder. It wouldn’t hold idle either. Then today engine would start normal, however, I didn’t drive it anywhere. I didn’t want to risk. The white smoke was still coming from the pipe. Sparkplus: #1 and #2 looked cleaner than ashy #3 and #4. I tested a sample of oil from the engine. I put several drops of oil on the aluminum foil and put a lighter under it. Oil began to splatter indicating that the was water in the oil. I also noticed that every time I shut down my engine, I hear hissing noise for another 5 seconds after engine is completely off.
So at this point I am baffled. I am not sure what to do. I am thinking about replacing the all the injectors to test the theory that old injectors would leak and destroy head gasket while car is parked. I am not really aware of any leaks from my injectors.
