My 2004 Santa Fe has something failing, but I need to know which direction to go. When the defroster or air conditioner is turned on the idol fades momentarily and my headlights dim. This does not happen when the heater, alone, is on.
This is my 2nd Santa Fe; I have my 2003 in my barn. The transmission gave out at 204K miles and this one was in my neighborhood so I just swapped. So, I have lots of parts.
headlights on 2001 Forester not working. I checked the fuses ,bulbs and they look good. The highbeams,taillights,and interior lights all work. I do hear the relays click when I turn on the switch.
View 1 RepliesMy wife usually doesn't drive at night, but I had her car for the evening and I noticed that when the AC cycles her headlights dim momentarily. I took the car to advance and they said it was a bad battery, I replaced the battery and it still does it.
I had them check the charging system after I replaced the battery, and it checked out. What could cause this, alternator??
2005 Santa Fe ....
Resurrecting this 2001 2.7l, I noticed the horrible gas mileage.
I'm thinking o2 sensor, but it doesn't throw a code... Anywhere else I should look? I've changed Crank Position Sensor, Fuel Pressure Regulator, plugs, and brakes.
One note, when the a/c is turned on, I can smell a burning kinda smell. Maybe the clutch on the compressor is going out, causing some parasitic type of power loss? idk. Car seems pretty peppy now that it has a new CPS.
Just bought a Santa Fe CRTD CDX on UK plates 2005 year model. After successful test drive took the vehicle home. After 20-30 minutes driving the ABS light came on. Restarted the vehicle and had no problem for next hour.
Next day same procedure so went to Hyundai dealer. After plugging in his laptop he said the sensor near the hand brake was the problem. This was replaced and had no problem all day.
Next day after 30 mins driving on came the light again. Took the vehicle back to the garage where I bought it and its been there for 4 days. They say the light has not come on, but I would question whether they would drive around for 30-60 minutes.
2004 Santa Fe 2.7L
When the headlights are on the left turn signal stays on(but does not blink). The right turn signal functions ok. With the headlights off both signals function normally. The headlights work correctly.
This issue happened once a year ago but just started reoccurring two days ago.
Sitting in my living room I noticed that suddenly my headlights on my 97 Subaru ob turned on. First thought was someone was stealing my pos. Knife in hand I went to investigate. No one there. The keys were in the car, in the off position. The headlights all of a sudden turned off. I noticed that the dash lights were flickering on and off. I removed the keys yet the dash lights remained on. Not wanting my battery drained I disconnected the positive cable, which obviously corrected the issue for the time being. When I was disconnecting the battery I heard a mechanical whirring noise coming from the passenger side of the car just behind the headlight. Have never heard this noise before. NOT the intake fan or the AC. Did not investigate extensively due to darkness, wind and rain.

View 21 RepliesI have a 2002 Saab 9-5 with a 3.0L turbo with 125k miles. The cruise control works fantastic UNLESS the headlights are on... huh??
I can replicate 100% of the time. It is getting dark earlier now - and my wife will not drive it anymore to work (35 miles) without the cruise control working.
Low beams don't work. The fuses are fine (under the dash, and in the engine compartment) and the bulbs look good. The fact that both went out at the same time has me wondering. One post on this forum for something not related mentioned a headlight relay behind the fuse panel?
View 9 RepliesI have problems with my SF 2002. When i turn on my headlights, the instruments panel (odometer, shifts indicator and others) has no lights. Turning off them, the shift indicator lights again.
I have notice that when days ago, i have changed my radio the problem began. Maybe the problem is related with this.
My dash lights have a weird glitch when the headlights are on. I can hear a click and the dash lights will go out and immediately back on almost like a blink.
View 13 RepliesOk, so I'm working on a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, 93,000 miles. The vehicle runs great! So great that you cant get it to stop running!! The problem is intermittent and generally happens after the vehicle has been running for at least 3 minutes. I turn the key off and she keeps on running (not dieseling, but running at 340-450 rpms!) I have already removed the aftermarket remote start that was installed on the vehicle thinking that was the problem, it was not. Then I went to the ignition switch and unplugged that, also to no avail! I plugged my scan tool in and can communicate with the computer and view pids while the key is on. When I turn the key off, I should loose communication. When everything acting normal and the car actually shuts off with the key, I loose communication with the computer upon turning the key off. When I turn the key off and the veh. keeps running, I do NOT loose communication with the pcm. The only way to shut the car off is to step on the gas pedal. Otherwise it'll run at 400 or so RPM for an hour or so!!
View 8 RepliesI have a 2004 Hyundai Sante Fe 2.4L that keeps blowing the ECU fuse under the hood when the ignition is turned on. We have replace the fuel pump and the inertia switch. I have tested the relay, ignition failure sensor, both coils and O2 sensor wiring.
View 10 RepliesI have an 04 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.5L V6 AWD with climate control. All other trucks this year I've only seen with manual HVAC controls. My blower motor is constantly running anytime the key is turned on. It feels like it is blowing 3/4 strong all the time and I can turn it up, what feels like one setting higher. Even if the climate control is turned off it keeps blowing. I can control the temp and AC and defroster, I just cannot control the actual airflow pressure from the vents. On an older car this seems like a resistor issue. Is this a common issue? If so, what can I do to try to rectify this?

But even when not fiddling with the dial, I hear an electric motor sounding noise from them time to time, just a short <1s whirring sound. I listen with the bonnet open and I'm pretty sure it's coming from the headlights. Is this normal? is there any way I can stop it?
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with my 1994 Volvo 940 GL. When I turn on the headlights (light knob pointing to the right) the headlights do not come on, the rear lights aren't on, the dashboard lighting turns off, etc... I don't know about the brake lights, i bet they work fine...
What's odd is that if i set the knob to the middle (pointing up), the rear lights come on, dashboard lighting works, and front-side lights come on as usual. In order to drive at night, I have to set the knob to the middle, and hold down the brights (which work fine).
I have a 2006 GS300. I have had a few oddball issues with my car (the engine rattle at start up....the water backing up in the floor behind the passenger seat etc.... ) but this one has me baffled. I turn on the headlights and one or both will randomly go out. Sometimes its the left and sometimes its the right. When this problem started, I thought it was the bulbs so I tried changing the bulbs but that didn't work.
When I turn them on, they both come on and then I leave the house and drive for a few miles, then I will notice that one of them goes out, so I turn the lights completely off and then right back on and they both come back on. Then a few minutes later one or the other will go out again. Sometimes they both go out while I am driving, so I need to flick them off and back on. I have no problem with the high beams or the running lights. I don't drive too much at night so it hasn't been a huge hassle, but it is definitely a problem.
For some reason my front fog lights in the headlights are stuck on when I turn my headlights on. Even the green light on the euro switch indicating the fog lights are on is lit up. But the euro switch is not pulled out to that position. This just happened a few days ago. I was not messing with or touching any of the wiring. Just happened out of no where.
View 8 RepliesI woke up this morning to rain and a very sick Phaeton. The car is locked, however the headlights turned on automatically. The car has a smell of burning electrical components. The wireless unlock doesn't work, so I had to open the door with the key. This set off the alarm. I was unable to shut it off by putting the car key into the ignition. Now the key is stuck in the ignition. Various lights are flashing, but I cannot start the car. The batteries are less than 2 years old.
View 23 RepliesThe headlights have been giving us fits because we can't shut them off when we turn off the car. We have to start the car, sometimes drive it around and shut off lights before shutting off the car. And this process has to often be repeated several times before it works. Yesterday the lights came on by themselves when my husband turned off the car in the garage and he couldn't get them off so he disconnected the battery.
