Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Car Shaking When Stopped At Stop Lights

Jan 18, 2012

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe with approximately 126000 miles on it. The problem is, the majority of the time, the car runs great but sometimes the check engine light will come on and then a short time later, the car will start to basically shake when I come to a stop at a stop sign or light. So basically, it is doing this while in Drive, but if I put the car in Park, then it stops shaking. Not sure why it does this and like I said, it will do this and then after driving it for a while, the check engine will go back off and it doesn't do any of the shaking. Seems to always come back though. What this could be?

Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: 2015 2.0T Engine Surging Or Shaking When Stopped In Gear

Not a great definition but have recently noticed an engine surging or shaking feeling when stopped in gear. About 7000KM's and it just started.

Pull up to a stop, foot on brakes and it randomly gives you a sensation the the motor is revving or stalling. You can feel it in both drivers and passenger seat. Haven't been able to see if the changes during this.

Just had it in for service a month ago which shouldn't matter but it seems new since then. Possible flash changed something maybe I don't know.

It's also intermittent so we all know how that works for service/dealership visits. Everything's fine didn't notice it...

Vibration - Transmissions :: 2002 Mitsubishi Galant Shaking At Stop Lights

I am having issues that i think are related to the transmission.

When I am stopped and the car is in drive it starts to vibrate significantly however once i start moving again the vibrations stop.

Switching to neutral or reverse also causes the vibrations to stop.

I am thinking that somehow the transmission is not fully disengaging when the break is pressed like it is supposed to but i may be way off on this.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: 2001 - Shaking While In Gear At A Stop

I just bought a 2001 Accent, very well taken care of. It is the 1.6, automatic, 148,000 miles. Just before I bought it, the owners put new tires on, replaced the plugs/wires/belts/timing belt/all fluids/head gasket. I did a search on this topic and saw a lot of things, but nothing definitive.

I've noticed that when at a stop (in gear) the car shakes a good amount, and with the A/C on it's significantly worse. There is no check-engine light, and the car seems to run and shift very well. I'm not used to small cars with small engines, so I don't know if it's normal or not.

I did look at the motor mounts (front and passenger side) and from what I can tell just taking a peek, they don't look bad, but again it was just a peek. The mounts don't look like they've ever been changed, but then again the whole car looks brand new, the owners took really good care of it (the inside looks like it's never been ridden in).

I do also have noise coming from the speedometer, that goes away temporarily when the back of the cable/speedo is lubed and then comes back, but my first concern is the shaking.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Cylinder 3 And 6 Misfire / Shaking When Idle

I just felt that my 2005 Santa fe shakes when idle in front of a traffic light today, later on the check engine light illuminated. Drove to a Monro shop right way and diagnosis using their professional OBD reader, it turns out that the Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 6 are misfiring according to the OBD scan result.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Severe Shaking And Power Loss Then Stalled

Today I took my AWD 2.7 Santa Fe out. All seemed fine until I made a turn... I noticed I was loosing power and came to a stop, despite pressing the gas pedal fully. The car then started to vibrate extremely hard and all of the dash lights came on. The car stalled completely. I tried to start the car again, but it took a few tries. The car shook severely in park, but when put in drive immediately became much worse and then completely stalled. I did this many times trying to get out of the street. I finally got it to work good enough to get off the road - I did however notice that it would not shift out of 1st gear. It had very high rpms, but refused to shift.

I am guessing this is the crankshaft position sensor? Could this be a MAF problem? I believe I read on this forum about high humidity making Santa Fes go crazy - it has been over 95% today, and raining. I managed to get the car down the road to a shop we trust. They are going to try and read codes later.

Ford - Explorer :: 2006 XLT Intermittent Engine Rev While Stopped At Stop Lights For No Reason

Engine revs excessively when I press accelerator to shift between 2 and 3 gear. It acts like the transmission is having problem "up shifting". However I had the transmission checked thoroughly and all checks out OK. New fluid, no leaks, compression good, bands good, no debris in housing etc. This engine rev also occurs while stopped at stop lights for no reason. (no acceleration, etc) I also notice the fan behind the radiator running at high speeds when engine is in idle mode. Fan revs and then slows and then revs again. Don't know if this is related.

Engine rev is not related to running the AC. It happens if AC is on or off. The fan rev and the engine rev are not the same sound or symptom. The vehicle runs fine when I first drive it on 40 mile trip to work in the AM. As the day goes on and the vehicle is driven more then the engine rev problem shows up. (again on an intermittent frequency). Question. Could a dirty fuel filter cause this engine rev. Question. What might be some things to check out to find and resolve this problem?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: The Transmission Just Stopped

I have an 02 AWD 160k miles with a 2.7l V6. The car was driving fine then the transmission just stopped, no noise, no bucking just stopped as if it were shifted to neutral. Fluid is good, no codes. when the car is started and put into gear the RPM's drop as if its going to move but nothing.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Jerking Or Hesitation While Stopped

Santa Fe - 2004 - 2.7 liter automatic fwd.

I am experiencing an occasional jerking or hesitation while sitting stopped at lights and it also has a tendency to do the same as I begin to move from a stop at times. It almost seems like the transmission slipping or something but likely more engine related I think as I am at a stop. I have felt this slightly while at speed as well but not that often, at least not yet. It also seems more noticeable as the weather get warmer as was very noticeable late last summer and did not present itself again until spring.

Also-I have read that some threads re stalling issues(not exactly what I have) that can be related to the crankshaft position sensor and also read somewhere a while ago about an issue re the ecm needing reprogramming but have not found that recently.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: AC Blowing Hot Air When Stopped And Restarted The Car

2001 LX 2.7L 4WD. Was driving home the other day. Stopped along the way, and when I restarted the car, the ac was blowing hot air. It was working perfectly up to this point. It did not fail with any noise, just quit working.

After some tests, I've realized that the clutch coil is open, and the clutch does not engage. It is getting power when the ac button is pressed. The clutch spindle turns manually, but there is some resistance - it does not spin freely. Also, there is a whining noise now when driving - even without the clutch actuated - I'm thinking its a bad bearing in the compressor.

Repair shops want to do the whole compressor replacement job. What are my chances of getting away with the coil and bearing replacement as stated in this thread Ac In-op ? Or is the clutch resistance and the whining noise a sign that the compressor is dead?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Signal Lights Stop Flashing

I am having an issue with the turn signals on my 2010 Santa Fe. When changing lanes to the right and moving the turn signal lever up slightly, the turn signals activate normally. However, when releasing the lever, the signal lights stop flashing (as they should), but the flasher clicks at a rapid rate and won't stop. I have to jiggle the turn signal lever to get it to stop clicking. I have checked all lights and the bulbs are fine.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: All 4 Windows Stopped Working In Down Position

03 santa fe... During a stereo install the door panels were off and somehow we found a way to screw up the window switch. (the good new's is the stereo sounds awesome) and I can't pass it back onto the installer, he's my brother

all 4 windows stopped working, and of course, they are in the down position which complicates things just a bit

I checked the fuses but they seem ok at least on a visual, although I haven't eliminated that all together the likelihood that its a fuse, or multiple fuses is moving to the bottom of the list.

The window switch, it looks ok on a visual, anything obvious that I can check or look for ? No loose or crimped wires that I can spot.

If the switch itself somehow got fried I can get a replacement, but I'm hesitant to just go out and buy one right now (75ish + ship) and get it in the mail, to get the ball rolling, and god knows what the dealer would want for the part locally. I'll also check local salvage yard to see if at least I can get the part faster if it comes down to that.

Maybe when the new speaker wires were fished through the flex boot we disconnected or loosened the connector under the dash that goes to the switch ?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Rear Wiper Stopped Working

The rear wiper on one of my two 2004 Santa Fe has stopped working. Checked that the fuses are OK.

Then I swapped the wiper motor and then the control unit to the other Santa Fe & both work in it so are OK.

What else could be causing the problem?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Cruise Control Has Stopped Working

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Turn Signals Stopped Working

I own a 2004 hyundai santa fe and just recently my turn signals have stopped working. My bulbs are fine because they still light up when I lock my car and my hazards work too. The flashing arrows on my dashboard wont show up for my turn signals but they will show up for hazards. I checked the fuse and its completely fine. I am so confused with what is wrong. The only thing I was doing before was messing with my new head unit which involved unplugging a lot of the stereo and fog lights and hazards but that all should have no affect on my turn signals.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 Won't Crank For 10 Minutes Or So When Stopped The Car

This had occurred twice thus far in the past 6 months.

2004 Santa Fe 3.8L Automatic:

I had stopped the car at a store several months back, got back in the car after about an hour and I go to turn the key and the motor will not crank at all. Battery was fine, lights all worked, etc. After about ten minutes of fiddling with the shift it finally cranked and started without issue. Tonight I had stopped, topped off the tank (mistake I am sure) and tried to leave the gas station, again, no crank (and I forgot my cell phone at home!).

After about 15 minutes of fiddling with the shifter thinking a lock switch issue it again finally cranked over and started right up! Sounds like a couple of isolated incidents, however what may be the causes?

The first time I don't recall if I had gotten fuel or not. I did travel a ways afterward if I indeed had. This time I could not get it to crank right at the pumps.

Could this indeed be the purge valve issue I have heard about on these causing it not to even crank?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Speedometer And Cruise Stopped Working

This morning my speedometer started behaving erratically. The needle would swing plus or minus 10 miles per hour. driving home from work eventually it would not respond at all. I also noticed when I attempted to use the cruise after that it was not working either. I'm thinking these issues are connected. Do i need to replace the speed sensor that is on top of the transmission?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2003 Shut Off When Stopped At Traffic Light

Was in town stopped at a traffic light when my 2003 Santa Fe just shut off. No warning, started right back up again, no CEL, no DTCs. Scary. I'm happy it happened with me driving the car instead of my daughter driving. Also happy it didn't happen on the highway.

I've had hard starting issues for a while now. Replaced crank sensor, it's fine for a few starts, then goes back to hard starting, but I hadn't had a problem in a few weeks.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Cruise Control Stopped Working Suddenly

Never had any issues with it before and was working fine on a trip a couple of weeks ago. On the way home I had it on, we stopped to get some food, and then when we started up again cruise control wouldn't turn on at all. I tried turning on and then setting, but nothing happened so I don't think it's the light. Checked the fuse and it looks fine (no noticeable distortion or break to the wire anyway) and brake lights all work.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - Low Beam Headlights Stopped Working

Low beams don't work. The fuses are fine (under the dash, and in the engine compartment) and the bulbs look good. The fact that both went out at the same time has me wondering. One post on this forum for something not related mentioned a headlight relay behind the fuse panel?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Idling Rough When In Park Or Stopped And In Drive

2004 Santa Fe 3.5 has started idling rough when in park or when stopped and in drive. When I'm actually driving, it runs smooth and doesn't seem to have any issues or hesitation. I tested my EGR valve with a vacuum pump and it held 7Hg of vacuum and did not leak. I think that indicates it is working still?

I think my issue may be the EGR Solenoid, but I'm not sure how to test it. When I remove the Green hose from the Throttle Body, there is a good vacuum coming from it and my car speeds the idle up and seems to run smoother. I think that means there's some kind of blockage? When I have the Solenoid off, you can blow through it, which I think means it is open.

I think I have to replace the Solenoid, but didn't want to just buy parts.
