View 1 RepliesI have had a check engine light go on and off with P0700 and P0741 but since the flush day 3 it hasnt come back on and it was chucking with rpm doing small jumps... but now it does it in the mornings after sitting all night after a few chucks its fine for the rest of the day til the next day no check engine light so far, but transmission flush has worked a lot not as bad as before the flush.. So what else could be causing it? Its a 2006 hyundai santa fe with 274,000 kms.
View 24 RepliesMy cousin's B5 wagon automatic 1.8T ('00) was shaking and vibrating intermittently. I took it down to Autozone and borrowed an OBD2 scanner. This is what it said (only one code, and the CL was off, although it comes on intermittently):
P0741 - Torque Converter Performance or Stuck Off
Code is for tcc stuck on. Code p0741 is tcc stuck off. So, it's a sticky solenoid. Which means it may start out sticking occasionally and progress to sticking more often and finally staying on/off permanently? If u get the code/symptoms 1 time, does it usually mean it will happen again, soon?
View 1 Replies2004 Acura MDX, check engine light came on. Got code checked: P0741, supposed to be switch or torque converter. My mechanic won't do transmission work, so took to dealer. They drained fluid, no metal shavings. Now they want to replace transmission, said it has internal damage. It wasn't running badly, a little slippage here and there. Don't think it really needs replaced.
View 7 RepliesI have a Mazda Tribute 2006 2.3. The O/D light would come on, drove it to a friends to scan the check engine light code, and the car almost made it there and then wouldn't remove in reverse, forward, or anything. Turn it off then start it up still wouldn't, then turned it off let it cool and it worked again for a little while.
The code was P0741, just the one code. Took it to a shop to have further tests, they seemed to think it was the clutch was worn and when the fluid heated it lost friction.
Pulled the transmission and thought why not do a Transmission rebuild? I have never done one but there was an awesome video on youtube of the guy doing it so I figured it couldn't be too hard and was just going to try my first rebuild.
According to the guy in the video you always need all new bushing, and we will get a rebuild kit with new clutch packs and the other stuff that comes with those, and sounds like it's a good idea to replace the torque converter.
The car is only at 85K and it looks like the transmission was rebuilt once before he got it at 80K. Maybe a bad rebuild?
Here are some pictures .....
The Input Sprag bearing was shredded and the bushing looks terrible. Can I just replace the bearing and the bushing? Is there any other damage I should be looking for because of this?
The forward planet you can so some eaten metal on the edge and 2 gears spin super smooth and the other 2 you have to push pretty hard to get them to turn. So new forward planet?
The shell's corners look a little rounded I wasn't sure how much was to much, can you tell from the picture if it looks like too much?

How can I fix the P0741 engine code? Vehicle has 100k mileage.
Some of the on and off symptoms: loss of power, doesn't go over 40mph on the bridge, rpm dramatically goes high at low speed, lower mpg.
I did a tune-up: [URL] .... 2Bplugs, engine, coolant, [URL] .... 2Bfluid, steering, ignition coils, short ram intake filter cleaned.
I bought a 2007 Toyota Matrix new, and it now has 41,800-something miles on it. At 38K miles the check engine light came on while I was on vacation out of state. The nearest Toyota dealer checked it out, told me the check engine light code was P0741 - problem with the torque converter - but they didn't see any obvious problem and the car drove fine for them and for me. They turned the light off but it went back on before very long. The car has now been to 2 different Toyota dealerships near my home because the check engine light keeps turning on. They also report seeing the same code, also seeing nothing obviously amiss, and tell me I need my transmission replaced. This seems preposterous to me for such a low mileage Toyota.
In December, when the check engine light went on again, I discovered it would turn off if I filled the car with gas. It still comes back on; if I either fill the car with gas, or simply open and close the gas cap, the check engine light will turn off after 3 - 4 trips with the car. What does the gas cap have to do with the torque converter?
What's really weird is that the light always comes on under the same conditions. Most of my driving is short trips, a couple of miles in town at around 30 mph. The light never comes on during "town" driving. My highway driving consists of trips of about 1 hour; parking for an hour or two; then returning home -- again, about an hour's drive. The check engine light always comes on when I'm doing highway driving on the trip home. I've clocked the mileage for the last 3 times the light came on. It came on after highway driving a total of 48, 51, and 48 miles, respectively.
99 F350 7.3l with 4R100 trans. About a month ago I took out a monster trans that had about 60k on it and it was burnt up. No warranty. ..customer bought another monster. After the install when going into 4th the torque converter would instantly lock making it feel as though the truck was falling on its face. Monster had me do some data logging and from the info I provided they determined it had a bad solenoid pack. They sent a new one out...when I went to install the new pack I noticed when I dropped the pan that the fluid was iridescent looking...a bolt for the valve body was in the bottom of the pan and lots of material stuck to the magnets....
Needless to say that trans only lasted about 2 weeks after putting the solenoid pack in. Fast forward to today..got trans number 3 from monster under warranty. After the install everything seemed good. About 30 mins into highway driving the od light starts flashing. ..subsequently the P0741 code. I did put 2 new wire pigtails on the front and rear speed sensors. The pigtails were a ford service part but they were a bit different in design. I am pretty sure the wires are correctly oriented..if not would this cause the issue. I really am leaning towards a bad solenoid pack again. My buddy thinks the TC isn't seated properly....where do I start? Also has an edge programmer on it..but it's been on the same map all this time
I am trying to make sense of a P0741 code accompanied by a flashing OD light.
The truck is a 2002 (12/01) build date) F250, 7.3,4x4, Auto, with 245,000 miles on it. The truck seems to shift fine but around 40/45 it feels like the TC does not lock, followed by the flashing OD light.
The transmission was serviced 500 miles ago but the OD light flash was intermittent until last week, now its been constant. I want to take care of it before I do any damage.
My buddy has a 2002 F350 CC Longbed with a 7.3. Last night the overdrive light started blinking. He said he drove it today and it takes about a mile or so for the light to come on but then it is a steady blinking. Truck has about 254K miles on it. He said other than the blinking light everything seems normal. How to figure out what this issue may be?
I got AE hooked up on his rig.
When I pull (ALL) codes this is what I get:
When I pull (Current) codes I get this:
I tried to clear the code and the light stopped blinking, but he said it started blinking again on the way home.
Well, I've been getting a flashing OD light, so doing some research, led me to replace the shift solenoid. I did just that and have yet again the same P0741 code... The truck seems to shift normal but will randomly throw the code and then will not go into Overdrive as well as shift very hard into all gear. Where to look next?
View 1 RepliesAbout 2 months ago, the check engine light came on and I had the code read, it came out as P0031, which is the 02 Sensor. Today, I had this 02 Sensor replaced and had the code reset, but later on today the check engine light came on again. The mechanic said I needed to drive it for about 100+ miles before the car resets itself. I drove it for about 30 miles before it did come back on.
View 8 RepliesWhat this code may mean and what type of expense will I be looking at? Is it something I could fix or does a dealer need to perform this repair?
View 4 RepliesWell, finally! After wanting a code to troubleshoot this low gas mileage and fuel smell (outside the car, usually, but sometimes inside the car also) for 3 months, I FINALLY got a trouble code.
Bad news is: it's P0457.
2001 2.7L. Where would you check first? I've already replaced the cap and pump (the old cap was fine). Pulled the EVAP can off today, no holes or anything that I saw to cause a leak. Where is this "two-way valve" located? Think it might be the place to look?
I have a 2005 Santa Fe with the 2.7l engine....during the last two summers I've had this code pop up only to disappear. Well, we're into the winter here in New York and the code popped up again and after a week its still on. What's causing this and are there any easy fixes? The wife loves the SUV, its got 120,000 miles on her, the engine is strong and the tranny was rebuilt this summer (that another story).
View 1 RepliesSo I go on vacation, and as we're driving down, the CEL comes on with p1166 pd1166. Get home the code still pops up. A month later small oil leak is detected. Clean the throttle body intake, fuel and exhaust systems. Oil leak gets worse, turns out the crank shaft seal has failed. Shop cleans out the oil, and replaces the timing belt. Clears the code and the CEL stays off for 5 days. I clear the code and Its good for days. Get it up over 50 and the CEL pops on. So today go for a trip mostly highway driving. I go over 125 miles with out the CEL coming on. Check it and the reader reports pd1166. Clear it. Driving back 4 miles and the CEL comes on. 2 codes p1166 and pd1166.
What are the time parameters for logging a pd1166 and the p1166. No engine issues, no performance issues. Gas mileage is 17-19mpg.
I've checked the lines from the Purge Valve on the Passenger side of the Intake Manifold, Check OK
I've Checked that Valve OK
I've Replaced the Canister Close Valve
I've got the Gas Cap tight.
I've removed the rubber bushing holding the CCV to the Evap Canister, hoping to isolate the Filter and point the blame on it, no luck there!!
I'm thinking next is to drop the Tank and check over all the Goodies on top.... as much as I hate the thought of that, the two access holes under the seats, just don't allow access to enough of the tank!
any thing there that I could suspect, I see there's a check valve!
There's also the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, which may be at fault.
I just purchased a 2005 Santa Fe, 4WD, 2.7l..the engine has a miss...the code that came up was "misfire in #2 cylinder"..I checked the coil pack...and the wire harness just crumbled..so I replaced the coil pack...reset the code..and it was good for a couple of days...I got through inspection...today I put on the A/C..and the engine got rough..the check engine light came back on..same code..misfire in #2..I'm thinking the injector or what else could it be? plug? wire?
View 3 Replies05 santa fe/3.5L/ owned since new. Had a misfire problem and solved that by changing coils/plugs/wires...
Still getting a P0430 code (bank 2 cat efficiency low)
Following the Repair manual troubleshooting of that code says
Read H02S - got a scan tool and did that -
Comparing Bank 1 H02S1 and 2 show they are are different voltages and do not follow.
Comparing Bank 2 H02S1 and 2 show nearly identical traces.
I also checked the wiring harness around the sensors and check for air leaks...couldn't hear/see/feel any.
My conclusion based on the info obtained is that the bank 2 cat is bad and needs to be replaced.
My 2003 Santa Fe 3.5 is in limp mode, you can't change the gears and showing signs of faulty tps sensor, but my mechanic is telling me to change whole electronic throttle system , May be its only the sensor.
