Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004, Luggage Compartment Light Will Not Come On
Jan 29, 2013
My luggage compartment light will not come on when the tailgate is opened. The bulb works fine and the light comes on if I move the switch to the "on" position. It will not work in the "middle" position.

So I guess I blew a fuse somehow and due to the fuse list was able to replace the blown fuse however my luggage light wont turn on now despite replacing the bulb. Everything else works on the circuit so I am stumped. Maybe the cold? Its been 40 degrees in LA the past few weeks....

For the last two days I've had a very intermittent (tck, tck, tck) sound coming from what sounds like the glove compartment area. It has a rep rate of around three times a second and is very regular. It sounds like a relay to me. It has only lasted less than 20 seconds on each occurrence so don't have time to troubleshoot. I took that area apart and I see two 12volt 25 amp what look like relays just to the right of the glove compartment. I've left that area torn apart so if it happens again I can feel the relays and get it down to one-and or eliminate them as the cause of the noise.

Ok I just bought my 2004 santa Fe last Saturday. I washed and detailed the entire car even washed under the hood with the washer from the car wash like I have done many times before on other cars. On sunday the air bag light came on. Could have this been from me washing under the hood or is there a true problem. How do I check the air bag system and how can I reset the light.

I own a 2.7 L v6 Santa Fe, 2004 with almost 50k miles on it.
When I accelerate and hit approximately 1.9k RPM I can hear a light grinding noise underneath the car. This happens both in 2nd and 3rd gear. So as it's accelerating up I can hear it, and when the car shifts up and the RPMs drop it will make the noise again as it passes through the same RPM range.
The noise is always there at 1.9k to approx 2.1k RPMs.
Also of note is that the sound is either gone or significantly reduced after driving around for a while. I don't notice it after freeway driving, for example.

I have a 2004 4 cyl. Santa Fe. The stop/tail light burnt out. Replaced it but still not working. Checked to see bulb was in correctly. Checked wires and bulb holder. Still not working. Back up and turn are working. Could it be a fuse?

I have a Hyundai Santa fe 2004 6cyl 2.7 L , AWD. I am having problem of slow acceleration which is worse after a stop sign or red light. Sometimes while taking turns I feels like that I will not move and I was lucky to be not hit by a Car coming from opposite direction while taking a left turn today.
The Truck’s exhaust pipe broke recently and a auto garage welded it. But I am facing the above problem immediately after the repair of exhaust pipe. If I put more pressure on gas pedal then a mal function indicator comes and today I took it to another mechanic and he gets the error code of P0303 –engine misfire and wants to charge me ~ $600 $ to replace spark plugs and wires. The malfunction indicator goes off also while I am driving and can comes back after a while or a day. With the indicator on, the car drives erratic (minor jolts ) for few meters and then its fine. Since when I am driving on highways then I can go higher speeds without any problem. Is it still misfire issue???

I have a problem with my 2004 Santa Fe, 2l diesel. Will try to keep this short!
When driving it suddenly 'heaves' (not sure how else to describe it), then it cuts out. I wait about a minute and then it restarts.
At first there was no 'heave' but there would be a momentary loss of power (I thought it was the clutch). Then it progressed to the 'heave' and then cut out, this happened now and then. Very quickly it started to do it every time I drove it. My neighbor mechanic blew down the fuel line, said the fuel pump in tank sounded ok, seemed to do it more when below quarter of tank.
So I kept tank topped up, it seemed ok, then on one 11 mile journey it did it 3 times, the last time the engine management light came on, crawled it home, after which it would not start at all. The computer said it was either fuel rail or coolant sensor. Neighbor replaced coolant sensor, it started ok. Tried it next day - 6 miles and it heaved and cut out again. This time no light coming on.
I've read about cam sensor, crank shaft sensor, fuel pump at back of engine...

I have a 2004 santa fe with a 2.7 v6. I have had a little misfire issue lately. I had a major power loss with a check engine light on it lasted for just a minute before it settled itself out. Had the code pulled at a local parts store. P0301 so I checked the plugs and they looked worn out. I pulled the upper intake and replaced the plugs and wires plus the upper intake gasket. I cleared the code and that seemed to correct the problem. Two days later, same thing happened. The engine seems to be running fine now. I wiggled the wiring harness to the injector and to the coil, no change in the way it runs. I was thinking it could be an injector or a coil pack.

After having the rear axle seal replaced 3rd time, my 2004 Toyota makes a sound/noise behind the dash, drivers side, in the engine compartment. Noise is intermittent and only when braking. Hard to describe....electronic sound. Brake pedal feels like ABS system is kicking in. But no ABS light comes on. Mechanics all tell me, "when light comes on, bring it back". Had the brake system flushed today? Still makes the noise.

Ok, best way to splain this is after our Santa Fe has been warmed up and after a short shopping jaunt and restarting there is a brief interim of engine compartment fumes when the heater is turned on. Within a minute this is gone and not a problem but it's as if lingering fumes get somewhere within the ductwork although I cannot recall having this happen during warm months with the ac being on. I've never encountered this problem in other cars we've had. It's not overwhelming and only lasts a minute or so after starting.

After having my SC430 for a few days, I recognized the problem with a lack of space for luggage during touring/road trips. I came up with the following solution:
1. Set both the drivers and passenger seat memory switch #2 to move the seat and seat back to the furthest most forward position when you hit #2, key off, hold for 2 seconds then release. Your seat will now automatically go as far forward as it can giving you ample room to access the rear seats even with the top up.
2. Purchase high quality leather "Duffle" style luggage, 18",20", 25" and place them vertically in the back seat and strap them in with the seat belt provided.
3. Press memory button #1 to return seat to your desired position and you are good to tour with at least 10 days worth of luggage capacity and keep your Lexus spare tire in the trunk which allows you to run Conti Pure Contact Grand Touring all-season tires which gives this car a much improved tide quality.

Three times in the last 5 months both the ABS & TCS light come on together and stay on while I was driving. The first time I pulled over and turned the engine off. After restarting the car and going about 200 feet both lights went out. The same situation happend about 2 months later. Today both lights came on and I continued to drive about 3 miles to my golf destination, when I was ready to leave I let the car idle for seveal minutes and both lights remained on. After I moved the vehicle about 200 feet both lights went out. I drove directly to my mechanic and he put his Snap On code reader and he told me it's saying the "G" sensor is the problem. He hadn't seen this problem before, is this unusal and difficult to repair ?

I just got this Santa Fe 3.5L not too long ago and have been doing quite a bit of maintenance on it. I put new plugs, wires, and coils on it. I also put a timing belt kit including a water pump and the tensioners on it. The main catalytic converter was totally plugged so I have fixed that problem also. I also did an air filter, oil filter and oil change. Only has 151k miles on it so I expect it should keep going for quite awhile. It runs awesome now with one exception.
The problem and I think I may know the answer, is after driving it a few miles the oil light blinks and then comes on. I stop and turn the car off for a few seconds and start it back up again and drive it another couple of hundred yards or even a mile before the oil light comes on again. When I changed the oil, the cap had gunk on it. Kind of greenish milky sludge and I am thinking it may be a head gasket.

I just bought 2004 Elantra GLS with 64 000 miles on it. Great small car. Suddenly when I parked the car I felt smell of burned plastic from engine compartment. I checked,no smoke just smell. Also, when I drive and press the breaks the car slows down fine after I release the brake pedal and just before to stop I can feel small pushes. What is happening.

I recently purchased a 2005 Elantra GLS. It is super clean and runs great. The dealer replaced the original radiator and hoses because they said the original radiator had a hole in it. After driving the car, the engine compartment has a coolant smell. No smell in the cabin. I looked everywhere but don't see any signs of a leak. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust and the oil is clean. Coolant levels in the over flow tank and radiator are good. The car is only driven short distances (maybe 100 miles per week). What could be causing the coolant smell in the engine compartment?

I've just bought a 2005 Santa Fe CRDI 2.0 Second hand, one owner from new, 60,000miles in 7 years. Just had it's 60,000 mile service. Until today perfect. Started car and no revs. but when I put in gear and moved the car, the revs kicked in and I was able to drive normally. Pulled over to side, into neutral, no revs FOR 1 2 or 3 SECONDS, then revved as normal, put in gear, and able to drive OK. Meanwhile, the MIL light came on and stayed on. I know what the hand book says but before I take it to our Hyundai dealer.

I have a 2004 Santa Fe with the 2.7L V6. There is a recurring issue where the ABS and Emergency Brake light come on, followed by the fuel gauge dropping to E, then all lights dimming until they go out. The car continues to run, but if you shut it off it won't start for about 30 minutes, then it start just fine with full power. The alternator and battery have been replaced twice in the last 10 months, most recently 3 days ago. The problem persists. I did find the right downstream O2 sensor to have broken wires which were causing a short. I replaced the O2 sensor and wiring harness, which cleared all engine codes, however the problem does still exist.
