Recently our 2003 SF, 2.7 v6, has begun not recognizing the ''D'' selection. It seems to know you want ''R'' or n or P. It has given a P0705 code indicating a problem with the switch that governs this. Where is the switch located ? Is it available from local parts or would you go to a dealer to get one. Assuming I can get to it; do I need any special tools ? It ain't much fun if you cant drive it.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 chevy impala that won't start it does not recognize park or neutral but it recognizes reverse drive and 321 I'm thinking it's the safety neutral switch which I think is in the transmission. I can jump the solenoid and it will start.
View 1 RepliesI've burned two CD-Rs with MP3s via the latest iTunes (10.7). When I put the CDs either in the 6-CD Changer OR the single player, the Prius acts like it doesn't recognize them. I can get it to "play" "track 1," but no sound comes out, and when I press skip, it just moves "track 1" to "0:00" and starts again.
When I look at the MP3 CD on my computer, I see that iTunes put everything into folders:
01 Artist -- > 01 Album --> file.mp3
So it looks like everything copied correctly.
What am I missing?
Are the folders screwing the Prius up?
2.4L. Starter cranks but engine doesn't start. Per other forums I have changed the crank sensor and cam sensor, spark plugs. No change. I went back and did Volt meter test on the new sensors: Crank sensor showed 13 volt on red wire, 0 and 5 volt while cranking on blue wire. Cam sensor had 13 volt on red wire and 13 volt on signal wire while cranking. Was expecting alternating 0-5 volt. Could I have a bad ECM?

View 5 RepliesI have 2005 Santa fe. I replaced the battery about 1000 km (about 600 miles) ago. Interior lights are bright. Now the car won't start, starter doesn't crank at all. At first I thought that it's an immobilizer problem, but not so sure now.
Could you tell me how Hyundai's immobilizer works. Some other cars starts but then turns off if immobilizer is on. Is it the same thing with Santa Fe?
I read from the manual that immobilizer-light should blink if immobilizer is on. I have not watched the dashboard lights so accurately before this. When I turn key to position "on", the immobilizer-light turns on (it doesn't blink). Is it supposed to do so and turn off when the car is running? Or is that a sign that immobilizer is on?
This morning as I get in to drive my kid to school (2005 2.7 2 wd auto) as I go to put it in reverse I noticeably have to pull it with some force. I have never had to "force it" before, it had always switched gears with ease. This time it felt very stiff but had no issues going into gear. After I dropped my son off at school I went through the gears up and down and it felt very stiff (at this point i have no issues with starting it or P).
At lunch I go out to get something to eat and when I go to start it up it won't start. I try and try and nothing. All the lights came on, it's not a battery issue at all (brand new). But after 10 tries it starts, so I'm pretty happy. Then I go to put it in gear (reverse) I can not press in the button on the side of the gear shift. It will not go in. I press with all my might and it wont budge. But again, after about 10 good tries at it goes in and I can then select my gear but still feels very stiff.
After stopping again I didn't shut off the engine and dicked around with the shifter basically figured out that my car is not recognizing Park. On the instrument panel each gear lights up but not P. It gets very stiff when trying to put it in P but it doesn't actually go into P. If I put it in P (or really the further up it will go) and shut off the car, it won't start again. I can start it up in N and only N.
Have an 02 Auto with the 2.7, 4wheel drive, and it doesn't shift into 5th gear. Can go through the 4 gears with the manual shift, but when just in drive, only shifts up to 4th. At 65mph, RPM's over 2500.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2001 F150 Supercrew (5.4 V8, 2WD,Auto trans) and recently when we fill the gas tank, the fuel tank doesn't go all the way up to the "full" line. Don't know if this matters but: about a year 1/2 ago in a little town (while on vacation), we broke down and the trouble was the fuel pump. The little town did have a small auto-parts store, and luckily had the fuel pump we needed. Unfortunately we didn't have much as far as tools and we wound up tearing/cutting the filler hose and the vent line.
The little auto store did not have the correct rubber filler & vent hoses for my truck and would take a few days get in stock. We changed out the entire fuel pump and sender unit, and were able to modify some rubber hoses for a new filler & vent line hose. Everything worked great for a year 1/2 but in the last few weeks we have noticed that when we fill the tank, the gas gauge does not go all the way up to the "F" line to show full. With the price of gas, it is important to know exactly how much is really in the tank. Also, is there a battery in the ceiling console for the temperature and compass? Ours just stopped working yesterday.
Here's a little more info on the truck I'll be working on:
-2001 Ford F-150 XLT Supercrew Cab 5.4L Triton.
-Has been used as a work truck so it has some miles on it 200,000+ and it shows. He showed me the lower control arm and the upper control arms bushings are a worn. Some coming apart and others with cracks in the (the bushings).
-So might need some more things replace but need to learn more about the truck to figure out exactly what?
Anyway, I'm probably just scratching the surface of the work needing to be done on this truck but for now I'll focus on the more important issues since without a functioning steering wheel he cant drive the beast. Might end up doing some customizing to the truck in the future such as changing the headlights to give the truck a more meaner look, along with the grill.
I am stymied by a weird Cruise Control problem on a 2001 F150 Lariat SuperCrew with 5.4L V8 engine that I just purchased. Long story short, the cruise control does not work. That is, when I push the "On" button at any time while the engine is running (even when traveling at highway speed), the dashboard CRUISE light does not come on.
I ran the cruise control "self check" procedure. The first time I ran it, we failed with 3 flashes. So I checked the cutout switch on the brake master cylinder, and it was indeed leaking brake fluid. So I purchased a new switch and cable (Motorcraft SW-6350 Speed Sensor Switch Repair Kit) and installed them.
With the new cutout switch, we seem to pass the self test. That is, after pressing all the buttons in order , I see all the quick flashes of the CRUISE light
(1. On (flash), 2. Resume (flash) 3. Coast (flash), 4. Set/ accel (flash)). Then the accelerator pedal is pulled away from my foot.
However, unfortunately, the cruise control still does not work. That is, when I push the "On' button at any time while the engine is running (even when traveling at highway speed), the dashboard CRUISE light does not come on. What to look at next? I note that horn works, in case that's useful info.
You have more air from dash registers in MAX selection compared to Normal. Only thing that changes in system is recirculate to outside air. Defog and Defrost are not working as should be for conditions.
Cause: Ford put some material over the inlet inside of the cowl which restricts airflow from outside. Less than normal airflow will result in all selections other than MAX which takes air from cabin and not from outside.
The material may become clogged with dirt, pollen, & road film and also mildew causing odor or allergic reaction. This is a NHTSA recall type problem and should be fixed by Frod because of safety issues for malfunctioning defogger/defroster.
Not sure what years all affected. This is 2001 F150 XLT supercab 4x4 OffRoad with only 54000 miles.
We have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2003 2.7 V6 and sometimes it just won't start, the starter motor turns over fine and the battery is fully charged, and most other times it starts straight away. The engine purrs nicely when it's running.
I suspect it's an electrical fault, perhaps a faulty sensor? (Cam position sensor, crank position sensor, fuel position sensor?) What sensor would cause the car to start and run perfectly some times and not start at all other times?
Immobilser issue? Although I don't have a button on my key so maybe the car doesn't have one.
I have an 03 santa fe 2.7L 170,000 miles (wifes car). Yesterday morning the ac was working fine and by the afternoon was not, only blowing hot air. I figured it was low on freon so bought some to recharge. Checked the low side pressure and it was high( off the gauge. >100). I also noticed clutch on compressor not engaged. I relieved some pressure and was only able to put in about half can of freon. Pressure went up to really high again. Still no clutch engaging. I thought maybe bad compressor, so i tried jumping it straight to battery, still not engaging. So my thoughts are either bad compressor or maybe not enough juice in battery to engage clutch (older battery).

View 1 RepliesTwo times in the last month my 2003 Sante Fe would not start - the radio, air conditioning will come on but nothing from the engine - not even a click - no check engine light. Had it towed both times - as soon as it was towed it would start up. It seems to happen in 2 week intervals. Now I realize bc they had it in neutral to get on the truck that is what required to start. It hasn't happened in a week but I know it will again.
View 3 RepliesI just replaced the crankshaft angle sensor, camshaft position sensor, starter and both serpentine belts (power steering and alternator, a/c belt). She fired right up, but now it won't sustain idle, she dies unless you keep the rpm at 1000. It almost seems like a fuel issue, but it's just a guess at this point. What to check next? Computer is throwing no codes at all.

Most of the time it starts right up -no problem. This just happens once in a while. Slowly, it seems to be getting worse. I replaced battery -no change. ...................???

View 2 RepliesWe recently changed the timing belt & serpentine belt & new alternator. Drove great for 2 days. Then car would stall out when idling, had rough idle. We replaced the Crankshaft position sensor (got one from the dealer) & the electrical connector. The engine cranks but won't start. The only code we're getting is P0335. We've checked all the fuses. Fuel pump starts when turning on the key. We've been a week without a car and trying to come up with something.
