I want to do an engine swap 98 regal to 01 regal. Both are series 2 3.8L. Should the engine and tranny swap without a huge problem?

View 2 Replies190000 miles... Driving on the highway my car began to vibrate and lose speed. I had to shift out of overdrive before I could get the car to respond again. It continued to feel incredibly impeded. I could not push the car over 65mph and couldn't remain at speed going uphill. From a dead stop, the car accelerates incredibly slow in any gear. The engine feels impeded even in P and N almost like the trans does not disengage.
The trans will downshift and kick up RPM when the pedal is put to the floor like normal. What could be causing the trouble and how much it could cost to have repaired? I have checked the trans fluid in park at op temp and it's perfect. No fluid is leaking from the car. Car feels like it's in drive and I'm holding the brakes while hitting the gas... even in P and N so I don't think it could be brakes.
Just curious. is it possible to convert my auto camry to manual transmission? also, how much would it be? where can i go?
View 5 RepliesHave an 89 f 350 7.3L 4x4. Trans is pretty much junk. Would a zf 547 be a direct drop in for a zf 542? Figured I would have a bit better trans, and give me a wider range to choose from.
View 5 RepliesMy 1986 F150 in my signature has new 33" tires, up from the old 31" tires, and the even older 28" or whatever the stock size was. Needless to say, it feels pretty sluggish lately. First, I want to change the gears to get the engine back into a favorable RPM area while cruising. I used a calc and figured 4.10 gears would get me back to where it was with the 3.55 gears and stock tires.
There are several different spline counts and carriers and all that stuff. I need selecting replacement gears that will work, and first off, knowing if my carrier will even accept them. It has the stock Dana 44 front and 8.8 open rear...
The other day I drove a 02 f150 with a 5 speed into the shop i work at, ever since all i can think about is putting a zf6 into my auto f250. its a gas 5.4 reg cab. I know I am gonna need...
zf6 tranny
bell housing
manual dog house
master and slave cylinders
clutches and what not
clutch pedal
I want to know if its possible to swap in the 5 speed automatic transmission from the corolla xrs to the 1.8 trying to get that extra gear and sequential shift mode , or how it could be done a 4speed to 5 speed manual swap?
View 1 RepliesLets say I want to do rear axle swap, how I would go about this? Would I have to do anything to my tranny or transfer case? and all in all would it be worth it if I am looking for more speed out of my 460? the fastest I can go for an extended period of time is about 55 if i go above that for to longit wears on the gears and overheats the rear end. It has slow acceleration, and I am sure the low slow gears put out a lot of power, but they drink gas. And even though I am good at driving stick, its hard to take off because there's only about two inches of clutch travel that i have to take off, its not the clutch, its the gears.
View 1 RepliesI am looking to change out my manual transmission in my 79 f150. I want to put a 5 speed in it but still keep my manual clutch. I have a 300 engine that I also want to keep, can I just put a late 80's early 90's 5 speed transmission in it and keep my original bell housing?
View 5 RepliesSituation is I have a 92 F150 2WD donor truck. 5.8l will be going into my 80 F150 4X4. E4OD transmission is long gone, but I do have a 4R70W from a 96 Explorer. Bolting it together is no problem, but there are differences in the transmission controls. E4OD uses a coast clutch, 4R70W does not. EPC, shift solenoids and TCC are compatible. I do not want to use a 5.0l PCM or add external controllers like the Baumannator.
Question is, can I control the 4R70W with the PCM that comes with the 5.8l?
I'm thinking I can ignore the coast clutch output, maybe tie it to +12 through a resistor if that makes the PCM happy. Baumann's controller appears to work with E4OD's as well as 4R70w's doing exactly this. Baumannator TCS Electronic Transmission Wiring Details....
Will the transmission from a 2000 fit a 96? They're both 3.0's.
View 3 RepliesCan I take the tranny out of a v10 and put it in my 7.3L Powerstroke?
Both are 1999 f250's.
From what I've read they should both be 4r100's.
I recently bought a 1999 F250 Super Duty 4x4 7.3 Powerstroke MT with 280,000 miles. The reverse is out and after reading several posts am I to understand that any ZF6 well interchange in it or is it year specific. Guess what my question should read "What year vehicles well the transmission interchange and that there isn't any difference between trucks that run this motor with MT except for the powertrain, like F250 F250 super duty F350 and so on. The second question is how hard would it be to fix the reverse myself. I do have some mechanical experience. Except for the reverse, the trucks run perfectly.
This is my first diesel truck . I'm also confused because it has an adjustable gauge mounted on the bottom of the dash that you can select the performance from. I was told it has a performance chip and that's what that was for. I was told by the man I bought it from that the truck had been bullet proof but I don't know a thing about diesel upgrades or what to look for if it has. Except for reverse, everything works. Low high 2x4 & 4x4. Got it because he had to pay the bail bonds man. Guess I got a deal on it I was told.
2004 Jetta 1.8 bought mainly as a parts car w /204K miles on it. Ran and drove fine, but the tranny had no 1st gear. Tried all sorts of things other than going inside the transmission and figured it is/was a bent shift fork. Clutch worked perfectly. Had another 02J tranny from 2003 1.8, so we swapped trannys. Could not get any response from the clutch.
Start the car in neutral and it won't disengage enough to shift into gear. Start it in gear with clutch pedal in and it is obviously slipping/burning/chattering. Have bled the slave cylinder to no end, have reverse pressurized it into the reservoir , etc, etc. Made up a block off plate to go over the end of the slave actuator and when the actuator is "blocked" from moving the clutch pedal is rock solid hard. Yet, the clutch acts as if the actuator isn't extending far enough. Have swapped out the original slave cylinder with the one from the '03, no change.
Removed tranny yesterday to check the condition of the throw out bearing and pivot and Pressure plate. All appeared fine. Reinstalled tranny and same issue.
I own a 1999 F250 sd 5 speed manual, v10. Looking for some specific details pertaining to swapping to a ZF650 6 speed transmission. Any prior example with this swap?
View 8 RepliesWill an 05-07 5r110w transmission work in a 2003 truck? Some sites show same part number for each and some show different part numbers. I know the gear ratios are slightly different and that there is some other internal changes made to the 5r110w.
View 2 RepliesI have a 93 Regal custom with 3800 engine. The engine idles at a stop at about 800 rpm. At times it will idle at 1000 rpm or maybe 1200 to 1500 rpm. When the idle is very high I will shut the engine and restart, most times it will return to 800 rpm. I cleaned the MAF and this seemed the frequency has lessened.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 f250 4x4 with a 5.4 motor the automatic trans is shot. I can get a replacement trans from 2000 f250 4x4 with the v10 motor. I tried my best to research it bell housing supposed to be the same so it should fit. But I'm not sure what they changed in those years internally or electronically.

After a normal start, about 30 seconds later, the engine starts to shutter with RPM dropping low and surging. If I do not play with gas pedal will ultimately stall. Once it is past its fit, which lasts about a minute, maybe a little more, the engine then runs and performs fine until the next start. This happens with a cold or hot engine. I have replaced the fuel pump and filter. Still have the issue. All battery connections, grounds, etc. are good. No check engine light.
When it starts to shutter it is significant. Reminds me of trying to start a cold piston aircraft engine on a cold day after a couple shots of primer and goosing the throttle.
Car:2000 Buick Regal54,000 miles3.8 V6, Vin K
Problem:The engine quits running. Idle, part throttle, moving, stopped, open or closed loop doesn't matter. Sometimes it will re-fire immediately, other times it may take a dozen or more attempts.
There is no MIL, and my TECH 2 is finding no issues.
I'm trying to get my 2000 Regal to pass inspection, but every time I have it serviced and need to drive it for approx. 100 miles before the emmissions test, the service engine soon light comes back on. Can a bad gas module in the gas tank be the culprit? My gas gauge has not worked for several years and it didn't cause the service light to come on before, but the mechanic said that is the only 'code' that comes up on diagnostics.
