View 16 RepliesAfter the tech changed the evap coil (9+ hours) I have 4 instrument panel warnings.
Brake system warning light
Master warning light
SRS warning light
Hybrid system warning light.
Even though they saved me alot of money I need to bring the car back for day two and have them figure this out.
2005 Prius with 190,000 miles.
I was having intermittent problems with my cruise control but realized it would turn on and off if the wheel was turned 45 degrees. I replaced the spiral cable (with a Toyota OEM) and the cruise worked great! The only problem was that the VSC light was on. There was a fault for a steering wheel position sensor. I attempted to do a zero point calibration and now I have the red Brake, ((!)), ABS, and VSC lights on solid all the time.
I've unhooked the battery for hours several times, tried to clear the codes (no obd codes show up), and tired to clear the ABS fault by pressing the brakes 8 times in 4 seconds while in diagnositc mode and jumping 3 and 14 four times in 8 seconds.
My sister says that her navigation has been going out. She brought the car to the dealership and they said her entire nav system needs to be replaced. They can give her a refurbished unit for $800 + labor. The symptoms are as follows:
The screen will turn black but she can still hear the voices. The screen will come back on its own. She also gets an error message "external system not connected". She says that this could happen at any time, not just when the navigation system is being used. Also when this does happen it is as if the whole system crashes because she cannot control the AC heat and the radio goes out.
In my research i would say this was a nav ECU problem but I want to double check and so I am posting. I would like to know if the ECU from other model years can be used (assuming you carry over the same DVD version).
I've got a III and looking to put on an external GPS unit. I have looked over my dash every time I drive and thinking the texture doesn't allow suction cups to work. How do you mount ?
View 19 RepliesI want to install an external display ipod adapter (Kenwood KOS-A300) in my 2010 Prius IV, but in reading the manual I see that the power wiring for this device requires 3 connections - Ground, Ignition, and Battery (it also has a dimmer control wire, but I am hoping that one can be left disconnected).
I haven't come across an accessory like this before - usually they just need 12v and ground and in these cases I just tap into the wiring for a 12v accessory power outlet to get these connections. My recollection in this car is that the accessory power outlets are switched (either with ignition "on" or accessory "on"), and they turn off when the car is shut down.
Is there a convenient location inside the vehicle where I can connect a wire that is always hot with 12 volts?
What is the "type" of these dual filament lights and the proper way to access /change them? Do you pull off the lense from outside the vehicle or remove the inside trim at the top of the hatch and access from the inside??
Since only 1 filament is used can I simply reverse them to the used /non burned out filament or do the bulbs have pins on there sides that prevent that (like a 1157)??
What can I replace my fog light bulbs with that are a little stronger than factory? I don't want to melt the housings and am thinking about amber bulbs. The stock replacements are hardly noticeable when on. It's a '03 W8.

I've had a look thought the manual and cannot find a fuse for this, how to sort this.
I want to replace the front and rear dome lights with LED's. I removed the rear plastic cover but can not remove the bulb. The only thing I can grab is the glass bulb and pulled but it will not release. I see a very small black tab at the base of the bulb and tried pushing it in, to the left and right but won't budge.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2003 Excursion. I shut the back hatch the other day and the window completely shattered. I bought another one from the junk yard.
My husband replaced it and everything seems to fit right and it closes down and it looks nice. Problem is now the interior lights wont shut off at all.
Running board lights are on as well. We have had to un-hook the battery to keep it from running down. Is there a sensor or something that needs to be reset?
Ok, I'm stumped... I've pulled the housing out for the 2nd row dome/reading light and I'm trying to replace the bulb...
How in the hell do you separate the trim from the housing to replace the freakin' bulb?
I've almost broken the thing in half trying to get access to the bulb... My FSM doesn't give any indication how to separate the housing just that the bulb needs replaced...
Perhaps there's a perfectly logical explanation for this, but why my Phaeton would lower itself with no external input or cause? I've noticed this only in--don't laugh--drive-through's. I pull up, place my order, and as I'm doing so the nose of the car lowers, then the rear. It never seems to happen when I'm, say, idling at a stop light or just sitting in the car parked for a few minutes. It's really strange, but as far as I can tell, extremely consistent.
View 5 RepliesCoolant leak on the passenger side. Leaking enough to leave a puddle on the floor. This is a 2000.
The water pump is good. Weep hole is dry. All of the radiator hoses look good.
The traditional intake manifold gasket looks fine, even though that isn't really a suspect here.
Looking up from the bottom, coolant is dripping from what appears to be a lower motor mount right next to the oil pan. Also, the area around the crankshaft pulley looks wet.
What should I look for? Could it be a leak from the engine oil cooler? Are there hoses on the back side of the engine? It doesn't look like it's anything simple.
I have noticed that the headlights/protective lenses in my 98 Passat have gotten very cloudy. When i rub my fingers on them you can feel kind of a rough surface.
The performance has obviously diminished and I would like to try to buff them.
A friend told me that it is caused by the ultraviolet rays from the sun and indeed the car has spent a lot of time outdoors. Any good plastic cleaners to do the job without having to replace the headlight assembly??
I picked up a really cheap Hyundai Elantra 2005 that the kid that owned it really beat up on. Right now I am trying to sort out the issues so that it can become my daily driver for the next few years. First issue, When I bought the car the driver's window was busted out and the outside latch will not open the door. The inside latch works just fine. What to check for to find out if it is the latch or one of the linkages? I don't mind replacing it but I would really like to know for sure before I do. I replaced the window by the way. I also need the weather strip on the outside of the car window as well.
View 5 RepliesWhat is the reason that an external ph8a filter? I attached in line with the tranny would cause the fluid to foam?? I'm not positive that that install caused it, because I changed a bunch of things at the same time. Too many variables for me to sort out.

I tried tonight to get it off and it wouldn't budge!
I lost one of my sks FOBs. I'm considering replacing it without a laser cut key. I'll use the other FOB primarily. Any downside to this thought? The charge for the laser cut key is very high compared to the cost of a battery that I could replace every 2 or 3 years just in case. Checked 5 dealers and prices are all over the place but the lowest is the equivalent of about 20 batteries.
View 7 RepliesI've had to replace my radiator twice due to it overheating. I am noticing coolant level going down but I'm not seeing any signs of an external leak. My garage is saying it is probably internal and going into the engine. Says I probably have to replace the head gasket but that will be very expensive.
Could I get some further feedback on what it could be and what else I could do? I am also getting a check engine light on a "lean mixture" issue. Not sure if they are related.
CD was working fine the last time I tried it but just recently when I try and use it I get an "external system not connected" message. I haven't done anything to the unit and no recent repairs.
