Prius V :: Missing Rubber Caps Under The Chassis?
Mar 22, 2015
I found these two rubber caps(2 pieces) missing under the chassis during an oil change in the center of Prius alpha, the carpet is visible. What are these for?

View 11 RepliesLexus IS 350 and I don't expect the Prius handle or accelerate like the IS. However, I have always driven import compacts that have handled well and would like my future Prius to handle well with a very tight and precise suspension and steering. That being said I will be looking to do suspension upgrades in order to increase the rigidity of the chassis and handling capability of the Prius.
1. TRD/PPP rear sway bar
2. Cusco/Tanabe front strut tower bar
3. Rude person's/Cusco mid under brace
4. Rude person's/Tanabe front under brace
5. Cusco/Tanabe front sway bar
Also considering the following:
1. Cusco lower arm bar
2. Cusco front chassis brace
3. Cusco rear chassis brace
We are having extremely cold weather. Yesterday my low air pressure icon came on. When I went to check the air pressure, I could not remove any of the caps.
View 5 RepliesI have an intermittent brake noise, which sounds like rubber rubbing against rubber. There is no discernable effect on the brakes, pulling, etc. My mechanic can find noting wrong with the brakes.
View 5 RepliesI have 2013 Elantra GS which recently was hit in the rear. The damage was not major but the strike seemed significant.
All body work has been finished and we have yet been unable to identify the rolling sound coming from underneath the driver seat or to the rear of the seat.
The sound can be reproduced when lurching the car forward after a heavy brake and then when returning to drive, the sound happens again somewhat like something is rolling back into position.
Coming from somewhere in the front half of the car, but I am not able to isolate to left, right or center. Jacked it up yesterday and sprayed WD40 on the sway bar bushings to see if it fixes it - nope. There doesn't seem to be any shifting in the strut towers. Haven't checked the subframe bolts yet. No creaking when front end is jacked so, only under load.
Started happening a few weeks after I installed the DG springs so not sure if it's connected or not. I made sure to replace all the stretch bolts as indicated and the job went smoothly.
Sound is like an old door's metal hinges type of creak. Creaks across the whole turning radius, which makes me think it's not the suspension but subframe or some other loose mount?
My X spent 4 years up north and has a lot of rust underneath the chassis, can use blackstar rust remover polymer? I cannot stand looking at it and was wondering about having success using this product? It looks like it removes rust and seals it with a polymer.

OK here's a new one (for me anyway). My Reg started to produce a squeaking noise from the chassis. I can't tell exactly where its coming from (yet) but it seems to occur mostly at slow speeds. I can reproduce the noise by driving over a speed bump or making a slow speed turn. I suspect an exhaust hanger as it seems to happen front and rear. I cannot reproduce it by bouncing on the corners of car though.
View 3 RepliesI've noticed for quite a while there's a slight clunking sound coming from the front chassis. It's more noticeable when the car's moving slowly, and when the car's driving faster the clunking sound becomes a vibration. I think it clunk maybe once when the wheel is turning a full circle. Does this indicates a CV joint problem? Both sides of of the front wheels have ruptured CV boots(for a long time). I'm just too lazy to get it replaced. Is it easy to replace the boots and ball bearings inside it, or just to replace the whole axle? The axles are not very expensive any way. Is it possible to find out which side need to be replaced immediately?
View 5 RepliesLast week I bought a 2012 with 35,000 miles. It has leather interior that was not factory installed. I noticed a smell when I first picked the car up and asked if the air filter had been changed and it had. It took me a day or two to realize the smell was like a new tire. Sometimes it is stronger than others but, it can actually give me a strange taste in my mouth. I went back to the dealership on a cooler day and they did not think it was anything. Driving home tonight it was terrible.
View 9 RepliesI am buying my Dad's '99 F-150 4x4 Lariat from him and this truck squeaks something terrible. I am assuming that the chassis bushings need to be replaced. I have 2 questions.
1. Am I on the right track to solve the problem?
2. How hard is the job?
ive heard that it will on the newer style trucks but will a pickup dually bed fit on a cab and chassis style truck? It's a 2003 so I've heard it's different.
View 14 RepliesI just replace front struts- 125,000 miles.
Needed for probably 4 years. Def. fixed some issues but I still hear rubber squeak when I turn corners at slow speeds. Sounds like something needs lube. Any thoughts? 2007 Prius.
My Gen III is currently at 95k miles, and the large rear bushing on the lower control arms have had small tears for some time.
I have also been experiencing a rubber "crunch-like" noise from the right control arm. I have been able to silence the noise temporarily by spraying silicone lube on the bushing, but the noise returns after a month or so.
While it is a bit subjective, the handling has noticeably degraded compared to when new.
For months I've been hearing the sound of rushing air coming from the direction of the front passenger side door. I've been trying to ignore it, but it's been getting worse. Today I noticed what appears to be a narrow gap between the rubber stripping and the front windshield near the wiper blade tip. Could that be where air is leaking in?
View 4 RepliesI'm possibly being paranoid, but twice, after hard driving, my Prius has smelt strongly of burnt plastic/rubber.
View 19 RepliesThe rubber molding at the bottom of my wife's driver's window (2007 Prius) has separated. Is replacing this molding a DIY job or do I need to pay the dealer? If I can do it myself, are there any tips for removing the old molding & installing the new?
View 5 RepliesI am thinking of getting some TRD center caps for my Venza, and I wanted to see how you all thought it would look. A picture of my Venza is in my sig. I wish I could hold the cap up to my wheels before committing, but I think they have nearly the same color / finish.
View 14 RepliesI took my 200000 mile Prius to a garage that is highly recommended and the mechanic stated that I need a new evaporator and expansion valve. He tested the car for a day. There was no time to do the fix so I arranged for a dealership that I trust to do the job. When they were ready to do the work, they detected no leak in the evaporator, but said that the compressor, expansion valve, and AC line needed replacement. (They showed me the leak in the compressor with special glasses.) After I called the first mechanic with the new info, he said that he could detect a leak nowhere, but, in the evaporator, and, at the expansion valve area. I am now stymied as to what I should do.
View 7 RepliesModel Year 2010 Prius, rubber along the front edge of the sunroof glass looks dry/cracking, but only on the left side of the car. Don't think it has anything to do with the location it is parked in, as that and the orientation changes daily.
View 4 RepliesGen3 2010, 15 months on the road, 62 000 km. While washing the car today I noticed that the rubber edge bonded to the sunroof glass is buckling/rippling/tearing. Cosmetic only, as far as I can tell - damage/wear doesn't permeate far enough down to cause a problem, I don't think.
