Prius V :: Low Fuel Warning Light
Oct 14, 2012
I seem to remember a low fuel warning light coming on when I first got my v. Now I have none, even on startup. Need to verify that such a warning lamp exists?

View 16 RepliesIn my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light
On the Screen:
Orange Car w/ the ! symbol - Hybrid System Warning Light
We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
I've got some issues with my 2005 Toyata Prius (~150,000 miles). My wife was driving recently and the "Master Warning Light", the "Hybrid System Warning Light" and the yellow "Brake System Warning Light" all came on.
Some quick reading of the owners manual said we should take it to a dealer right away, but because it was a yellow, and not red, brake system warning light it seems ok to drive at least to a dealer. in regard to the yellow brake system light the manual said it could be that: "the regenerative brake system failed or that the hydraulic brake system failed".
Now, I have a cheap bluetooth OBD reader hooked up to the "torque" app on my phone and I thought I would try to see what error codes there were to learn more. But strangely, it did not read any fault codes. I've used this reader successfully on my 2001 Mitsubishi galant, but I'm not reading anything for the prius in this case. I'm not sure if there is legitimately no error code associate with the warning lights or if my app is just failing to read them for some reason.
The "Low Fuel Warning" light came on my new Wagon the other day but I noticed that there was no chime associated with it. Also, there was a new screen (Vehicle Status) in addition to the usual Setup, MFD, Phone and Audio, telling me I need to refuel but again at no point did I get a warning chime. Is this something that should be enabled? The car is 2010 with 2.0T engine and 'new' (red on white) gauge cluster.
View 4 RepliesI got one this morning and the thing never went away. and yes, i checked my fuel cap. How to remedy this issue or do I need to take it to the dealers.
View 3 RepliesMy Audi has always been at about 2 gallons or so, and usually around 30 miles left on the range meter. The Touareg seems to come on much earlier, around when there is 80 miles left on the range meter. Is the reserve on the Touareg much larger than the standard 2 gallon reserve? Is the range meter accurate at 80 miles?
View 6 RepliesI seldom drive without refueling to the point that the warning lights come on, but for various reasons I had the car out with the gas needle at about the 1/8th point when:
(1) the yellow low fuel warning light on the dash lit up,
(2) the info display between the speedo and the tach informed me of "low fuel," and
(3) the NAV screen offered to find and display the nearest gas stations, which is quite handy.
I filled it up and noted the amount of gas needed, which was 14.5 gal. Since we all know that the RC fuel tank has a capacity of 17.5 gal, basic math (now probably high school math) tells us that there are about 3 gal left in the tank when the warnings alert you to a low gas situation. For most people that's about 50 miles, which is always nice to know. Also, as the needle was conspicuously above the "E," I suspect that this gas gauge may be unusually accurate, and that allowing the needle to hit the "E" mark is not a good idea.
How much fuel is left in the tank when the fuel gauge reads 1 bar? How much fuel is left in the tank when the low fuel warning starts blinking?
View 19 RepliesNot another dumb "water in fuel" post... I had the warning light come on the other day, so I got under to drain the filter. Not much water came out before the diesel, but I let some diesel drain anyway to be sure. What was strange though, was the electrical connection was off. I must have hit something somehow and pulled it out? What I'm wondering, because of the little water that came out of the filter, would the light have come on from the plug getting pulled out?
View 14 RepliesI know the manual says the tank's cap. is 18, but I've run the gauge to ' E ' with yellow warning lite on and it'll still only take 15 -15.5.
Can it still have 2 gal. past the E marker ?
I have a 2001 F250 (Platinum Edition). I purchased about a year ago. The water in fuel light came on. I ran an additive to remove water and changed the fuel filter several times. Light still on. How to turn it off? I missing something? Only fuel filter I see sits on top of engine...
View 14 RepliesSo my fuel light started blinking after 480 miles. How much more can I drive it? The display shows 30 miles left before fill up but I read in the manual that when the fuel light starts blinking there is 1.6 gallons left so should that be like 75 miles left. Just wondering. To be on the safe side, I went to fill up.
View 19 RepliesWent to dealership today for oil change, they said they didn't see any leaks, didn't see anything wrong, etc. The warning lights haven't went back on since yesterday morning. I'll keep watching, I hope they don't activate again.
By the way, for everyone who had a 2003 Prius, how many miles did you get with your main battery? The dealership said they usually go after 100,000 miles and need to replace.
At 130,000 they also recommend an engine cabin filter and fuel injection cleaning. Seems like an automotive store would be cheaper for the cabin filter?
We recently purchased a used 2006 Prius. The vehicle has approximately 74K on it now. Well the other day my wife went to leave work and pressed the power button while pressing the brake pedal, and the Master Warning Light and brake warning light both came on. The car would not allow her to shift the car so she tried to turn it off and it wouldn't do that either. After about 5 minutes she finally got the car to turn off, and when she restarted the sequence everything went back to normal and she drove home fine.
We called 2 dealers and they both seem to be confused by the symptoms, but one thought that maybe the battery was old on the transmitter. So thinking that might make sense I replaced the battery with a new one.
My wife and I own a 2006 Toyota Prius that we bought used 2 years ago. a couple of days ago, the master warning light (red triangle exclamation point) and check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and of course, our hybrid battery was dead - battery and a new ECU required.
Our car is at 99,000 and 32 days out of warranty. Went down the road to atlanta hybrid repair. they were incredibly nice, and said that my computer was fine, but the battery would need to be replaced.
I just changed the drain valve on the fuel filter bowl. All went well and no more leak, but now I am getting an "emission system" warning light.
After I replaced the valve, I filled the fuel bowl with diesel fuel. Was there any other priming that needed to be done (if any)? What the emission system warning light may mean?
2002 F250 7.3L 4x4.
Does the prius v TMPS shows you the pressure in each tire or just give you a warning when one of the tire is low. How many MPG do we gain if we over inflate the tire to the max possible.
View 16 RepliesMy 2002 Prius had 180,000 miles on it when the 'triangle with ! in middle' came on along with 'PS' and 'check engine'. Car was drivable home. Disconnected battery and all went away. Happened again about 300 miles later. Car was drivable. Again disconnect and reconnect battery. Good for a month around town. Seemed ok to go on vacation. First leg was a 200 mile drive and at about 150 the car died on the freeway and had to pull over. Again disconnect and reconnect battery. Drove for another 10 miles and died again. Again diss/recon battery. Got to destination disconnected battery and car sat overnight. Continued on trip for 700 miles and lost power again. Diss/recon and found hotel where disconnected battery overnight.
Next day went 500 miles on to 2nd destination. Car ran fine. Heading back home drove 700 miles heading back with no problems. Next day made it 60 miles and car died again, it was 105 degF. Diss/recon and made it 10 miles where alarms came on but car didn't die. Made it to gas station where diss/recon and continued on. In remote area so no dealer/mechanic around. Made it another 100 miles with 5 diss/recon in between with just alarms coming on until the 12 volt battery finally went dead. Had car towed home and put on charger in drive way.
Car has run fine since around town. Have not been able to recreate codes to take it to the dealer without fearing a long drive will kill it. Most of my long drives are through the desert. Waiting for codes to come on near home.
Unfortunately, it has now happened with my 2010 Prius too. Stopped on the road to shoo animals out of the way... Afterward, the warning light came on and the Car went backward when put in drive! (It DID NOT beep as when put in reverse.)...
View 1 RepliesA warning light has come on stating" Key battery low". How do I fix this?
