I was driving down a long steep hill on the highway going about 65. I put it into engine braking, B, because I didn't want to just ride the brake the whole way down. The engine was revving pretty loud and with no RPM guide, I had no clue if it was OK, so I ended up going back into D and just rode the brakes all the way downhill.
View 19 RepliesSo, I was driving down the road one day at like 50mph or so and had the loudest backfire I've ever heard. As I was putting my car on the dolly to tow home I heard a bunch of rattling and thought maybe it was a rod bearing or something. I pulled the oil pan and found chunks of my upper chain guide (rod bearings were fine).
I replaced the chain guide and checked the timing hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't. The rattling was gone but I was only running on 3 cylinders. Did a compression check and had 0 compression in Cyl5 and about 60-70 in Cyl2. I don't remember exactly what the compression was for the other cylinders since it was a while ago.
Started thinking it was bent valves, so I just recently pulled the head off to check them. They all looked like they were seating properly and none looked bent from what I could tell. I'm about to try to put some compressed air through it to see if the valves are leaking anywhere. the plugs, wires, and coilpack are all functioning properly.
I have a 3.6 4motion and recently after i started it up just now too, it made a diesel like weird sound, and the RPM revved up to like 3500 then went back to idling.
View 4 RepliesI've been working on a 04 Buick rendezvous and it has a very loud high pitch squeal when revved past 3000 rpms. Along with a serious power loss when the squeal starts. Has a new power steering pump as of today. And I took the belts off and revved it and the squeal is still there. That rules out the squeal coming from the belts. It is coming from some where in the engine bay and I'm stumped. I was almost positive it was the power steering pump since it sounded like it was about to go. But alas it was not. I does a little squeak when first started but nothing when idling. I've heard of a squeal coming from a clogged cat and it blowing out the egr valve. The squeal is so loud that you can hardly stand near the car.
View 13 RepliesMy check engine light came on today and my fan has been running pretty loud for the last couple of days. Also when I start hitting the gas under 1500 rpm there is a little rattle that I can here but it goes away around 1500 rpms and you can also hear it if you let of the gas and let the rpms go down then hit the gas again pretty hard?? It is a 2000 lincoln ls with the v8 around 110k, and i have had numerous problems with it. About 6 months ago i replace about 5,000$ worth of parts including, head gaskets, coolant clutch pump, power steering pump, timing chains or belts, and other things because I was having overheating problems.
View 3 RepliesI have noticed the brakes to be squeaking pretty loud car has about 37k miles and the last service done at 32k shows front pads to be at 5mm and rears at 9mm. What am I looking at is it covered under warranty or I just need to swap the pads.
View 7 RepliesI am pretty new to Toyota Prius. Today I went to test drive a jap import 2nd Gen 1.5 Prius with 50k miles. What I found weird with the car was that, on the startup the petrol engine also started and it was on for the duration I was driving. I then turned on the EV mode and the petrol engine turned off but looking at the battery capacity on the screen, the battery drained pretty quickly possibly (2-3 minutes) and the petrol engine kicked in. Is this normal for 2nd gen prius cars ?
View 3 RepliesSo I have an 06 Sonata with 56k miles on it. A few months back it started squeaking by the struts. It got worse last month and was pretty loud when going over speed bumps. Especially in the mornings
During my research on replacing them I came across a you tube video of a guy using AT-205 resealer to fix the squeak. Of course I bought some and was about to try it out but noticed that there was a lot of dirt and grime around the struts and other rubber mounts.
I decided before using the AT-205 I should clean everything first. Took some degreaser and sprayed everything I could see, including any other rubber mounts in the area. Rinsed thoroughly with water. Let it dry overnight and before applying the AT-205 decided to see if there was any change. To my surprise, there is no more squeaking. (It has only been 2 days though).
Hopefully it will not come back otherwise will use the AT-205 and failing that, will have to take the plunge and replace the struts.
Ok first of all i know this sounds really stupid. I got curious of the intake system and I unbolted the tube that does down to the (turbo i think) anyways I figured it was the intake for the engine. Anyways I went for a quick little drive, and it was not the intake for the engine it was the for the turbo. The turbo sounded pretty loud and made a whoosh when the throttle was released. Cool. 2 min later the car shut off i started it back up drove home, and put every back the way it was suppose to be! and there is a check engine light. My question is... How do I reset the light myself instead of the dealer doing it, I thought i remembered how to do it somehow without anything. Btw was doing that anyway harmful?
View 4 RepliesFor the past few months I've been hearing a loud fan-like buzzing noise coming from the passenger side of the front of the car. I don't know that much about cars, but it almost sounds like the engine is racing or something is spinning too fast. It has gotten increasingly worse, and seems especially loud at high speeds on the highway.
It is not the heating/cooling fan - the noise is present when the heating/cooling system is turned off.
I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex automatic 225k miles on it. Recently replaced spark plug and spark plug wires. Just had an oil change and an inspection done; they found an oil leak in the oil pan (oil pan cover gasket needs replaced). I have a severe lack in power, meaning it doesn't have the get-up-n-go it should. Doesn't shift until it hits 3.5 rpms, idles pretty loud, and noticed earlier today that there is a rattling that seems to be coming from front drivers side(could of been the road, adding it in for good measure) but that didn't happen till i hit 65. The coolant tank has a black grime in it, and from what i understand that's from deteriorating hoses(?). My question is this: What could be causing this loss of power?

She swapped vehicles, so I wasn't able to get into all the details, but it sounds like the engine rev'ed up to 5,000 rpm, but the car didn't speed up. Transmission dropping out of gear or downshifting?
View 2 RepliesMy girlfriend said her 2008 GX has been acting weird recently. When in park, if the engine is revved, the RPM's don't drop after letting off the gas. The RPMs do eventually drop but it takes a few seconds and it doesn't do it smoothly. The vehicle also maintains a pretty constant speed while driving and letting off the gas with very little deceleration. Is this normal for this vehicle or could something be wrong with it?

She was driving along, than it was like the engine revved up a little bit with out going faster, and now its making a slight whining sound, which also follows blipping the throttle in ANY gear, including park.. Its 1.8t, with about 135,000 on it.

Same sound this morning and whenever the truck sits for more than an hour. Sounds like a turbo problem and is coming from that area under the hood..?
View 11 RepliesMy daughter bought this truck about 6 months ago. This morning a driver cut her off, then hit his breaks. She had to make a panic stop. When she went to take off again, 1st and 2nd was no problem. When she shifted into 3rd, the engine just revved.
She tried to shift back into 2nd, but it wouldn't go into 2nd. She pulled over and now it won't go into any gear. The shifter lever won't even go over far enough to go into 4th, 5th, or reverse. I doubt the panic stop had anything to with it, but thought I'd throw it out there, just because.
Okay here's the truck: 1997 F150, 4x4, base model, short bed, 4.6L, 5 speed manual, manual transfer case, 190k miles. Truck has been beaten and abused badly, but is basically mechanically sound.
Here's what I've done so far. Checked the fluid, it was fine. Pulled the top cover and shifter lever out. I don't have a clue what I was looking for in there, but I hoped to see something obvious. I didn't.
On Friday morning the 2004 Prius with approx 140k miles started normally. It over-revved slightly for about 10 seconds while driving a short distance, but was fine on the return trip home an hour later.
View 10 RepliesTwice now, while going downhill hill (steep grade on freeway) my Prius has revved up to over 4,000 RPMs with the cruise control set at approximately 65 mph. The noise of the engine was my tipoff and I immediately had to turn the cruise control off. This just doesn't make sense to me! Seems like this could be a potential problem for those of us utilizing cruise control!!!

View 2 RepliesI recently had some brake work done on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee (139k miles), and they installed a new master cylinder. The following day, I was driving (very cold these days) and noticed the car had difficulty getting into higher gears and the engine revved up but would not accelerate. I had to stop, put in reverse, and start driving again. Then, the engine light popped on (P1763 - Governor Pressure Sensor) and has remained on for three days. The car runs fine most of the time, but occasionally experience the loss of acceleration. What should I do?
View 5 RepliesAfter successful 4kwh install I was coming off interstate at 65 mph avg. when red light began to show on phev switch. Of a sudden the ice revved to 3700 rpm and loss of power. I was only able to get up to 25mph after red light. The ice continued to rev and of course the dash lit up like a christmas tree. I got to top of hill and pulled over and shut it down. I started it up and every thing worked fine except the red triangle and check engine light were still on and all the other lights were off.
I pulled into BachmanToyota about five miles further and their tech said this: "There is a code poa92 detail 606//adv there is a cust.modified addtional battery,in which we cannot svc." He cleared the code and I drove it home a total of about 60 miles and it is fine. What went on ?
