View 5 RepliesI have noticed that when driving in EV mode when the car switches over to HV mode the Eco icon always lights up! Of course you can select Eco, or Power mode manually, but when it does this automatically, after the EV battery charge is used up, it keeps showing the Eco icon being lite not HV.
View 1 RepliesMy AC always defaults to Recirculation mode the first time I use it after starting the car even though Auto mode is off.
Can I change this to default to fresh air mode?
I have a concern about my 2010 Prius V(five). I've noticed some issues lately that may all tie in to one big problem.
1. My ev mode will not work at all. My battery will be fully charged and not in "B" mode. Turning car off and on will not work.
2. Engine will not turn off when coming to stops. Mind you when the battery is above 3 lines.
3. Throttle response feels like it's in PWR mode(super sensitive) but the engine is leggy. If I floor it for a sec the RPMS are super slow to come down.
4. The Eco line is quick to go in PWR portion and I'm not pushing it any harder than I was before all of this started. It seems like when I push the gas it skips the electric and automatically pulls from the engine.
I recently bought a 2004 Prius with 104,000 miles on it. When I try to go up into the mountains I only get a few miles or up to 1,000 to 2,000 ft. elevation (from 300 ft. starting) and the battery level gradually drops from 6 bars to 1 bar. The red triangle light and check engine light comes on and the car speed gradually begins to drop even if I continue to press on the gas pedal. I have only gotten down to about 35 MPH from 60-65 mph before stopping and turning around. Within a few miles of turning around the light goes off and the battery goes back up to 6 bars and works good going down hill.
The dealer I bought the car from has been working with me to figure out the problem but so far we have not figured it out. He has replaced the main battery as well as the inverter/converter. The mechanic was with me on a test drive to the mountains and had his car computer plugged in while we drove and experienced the same thing. It gave the code for the catalytic converter so we changed the entire CC/muffler (one long piece) and still got the same code. The battery indicator on this car has never shown more than 6 bars. I personally think it has a bad "Gas Engine" or something wrong with the gas engine.
When I bought the car in 2009, if I had 4 bars on my traction battery at night, it would have them in the morning. Now I can leave the car for 2 hours in moderate weather. When I drive off, it will show 4 bars but driving in eco mode w/o ac, it will drop to 2 within a mile and stay there for several miles before it starts to charge again. My overall fuel economy has dropped 10%.
View 19 RepliesOther than during cold winter weather, our 2+ year old Prius has been averaging 51-56mpg all around. Our tires needed changing and my spouse went to a tire dealer. The dealer recommended Cooper tires, a model supposed to get 50k miles. Almost immediately we now average 45-46mpg.
In looking back, we didn't buy tires that accentuate mpgs. Is there anything we can do short of selling the tires? And are they makes and models we should think about when it's time to change the tires?
About to hit 130,000 in 20 miles. For the past 10-15k miles, I have been consistently getting under 40 MPG, about 36/37. Only can I get 40+ for a whole tank when I do mostly highway driving. Before, my tanks would average 42-48 mpg.
My battery is also doing some funky things, sometimes when I turn the car on for the first time on a new day, my battery will go from green or blue (the blue right before it hits green) and will literally drop to one or two slivers of red in 15 seconds. I took it in when it first started doing that and they did a software flash or update, something along those lines.
On my 2001 Prius, while driving down the road the red triangle comes on and the ICE drops down to idle and the car slows down to 29mph. If I floor the gas peddle the car may or may not pick up speed slowly but if I let off of the gas peddle the least little bit it will slow down to 29mph. If I stop and turn the car off and then back on the triangle is still there but the car runs fine. After turning the car on and off 2 or 3 times the triangle disappears.
View 2 RepliesWhen I got water drops on my side windows (from rain or frost), rolled it down then up didn't clean off the water. Even worse, all the water drops were untouch.
Is the same to your car, or it's just my car?
Starting this past winter, whenever the overnight temperature drops below 45 degrees, a loud grinding/whirring noise emanates from inside the middle of the dashboard of my 2006 Prius. The noise occurs in regular one second or so intervals, and appears to originate inside or behind the touchscreen and radio/CD player.
The noise continues for about 15-20 seconds, and then goes away. The problem won't reoccur until the car cools overnight - i.e. the grinding noise won't reappear if I start the car up again when it's warm.
I recorded the sound this morning and have attached a sample WAV file here. I had to upload it as a zip file because the upload facility on PriusChat apparently doesn't allow one to directly upload a wav file.
I noticed since day one that my 2014 PiP radio is more static than my 2006 Prius. I also noticed that when I started moving in ev only, the radio volume level would drop. Well, I never really thought about it why till I got LED headlights. Now, the static is worst due to RF interference from the LED. So, it looks like there were more interference due to the ev electrical system. With the LED headlight, it made it worst. I have put a choke on the leads of the headlight, but it does nothing.
View 12 RepliesI just bought a 2014 Prius- Pkg. 2 car. I had an '06 & an '08 Prius and kept the tire pressure @ 44 Lb.s for maximum mileage. I always fill my tank to the top well after the pump clicks off.
1) The dlr. told me I will only get an accurate MPG by not filling the tank after the pump clicks off. He claims the computer doesn't read the extra 1-2 gallons and that is causing me to get about 35 MPG even though the trip meter says 50 MPG.
2) The dlr. told me not to run my tires @ 44 lbs. Said it is a safety issue. I've been doing 44 lbs. since 2006 with great mileage and no safety issues.
Am I wrong for filling my tank to the top? My Prius has just over 600 miles today.
The Prius V drops the bluetooth connection sporadically and after a bit reconnects; when I start up the car the connectivity is not always seamless-often saying no Bluetooth is set up but then after a few seconds connects; I can be on hands free and talking away only to find out I lost bluetooth and the call reverted to the phone, and finally I have tons of static.
The bottom line is I can no longer use the phone in the car for business.
I changed the oil on my 2008 Prius Touring in the weekend. I consulted the manual after the oil was changed. One mistake I made was to use 10W-30 instead 5W-30 recommended. The manual mentioned that it affects MPG with 10W-30. For the 270 miles trip I took right after, my average MPG dropped from ~46 to 45 highway. My short commute driving dropped from ~37 to 34. Comparison are made on the same roads with similar temperature and driving speed. Is that normal? Will it go back up after a while?
View 12 RepliesI've read several reports about failed water pumps. Well, Pearl stated leaving drops of pink coolant on the garage floor a few weeks ago. I thought perhaps I had overfilled the overflow tank so I just ignored it. Finally warmed up so this morning had a look. Water pump! Pulley had lots of pink decoration all over it.
View 4 RepliesOk, had the prius c four for a few months now. What is up with the gas gauge? When I get down to one rectangle my cruising range drops to like 9 miles. I got gas and put in 8 gallons, which means I had 1.5 gallons still. Why is it showing such low cruising range mileage? Looked through the manuals by couldn't find anything useful. Also, is there a way to see exactly how much gas you do have? The rectangles seem a bit arbitrary to me when it comes to representing an actual amount of gas?
View 13 RepliesI have noticed oil spots under my 06 lately and finally got under it to see where it's coming from. It's collecting and dripping from the bottom motor mount but it's hard to determine exactly where it's coming from. I can't tell if it's coming from higher up or down low and running back and up from the wind. I just cleaned it with degreaser and have it running to hopefully dry it and be able to see where it's coming from.
View 11 RepliesIts not my car (its my father in laws). The other day his 05 prius (170k miles) shut off while he was driving. He pushed it home and I sent him a link on how to check the 12v battery. He said it showed it was low so he used his golf cart battery to go and take it for a test drive to see if that fixed the problem. In the drive way at idle his hybrid battery charge went up half way but when he went to drive it he got 1/8th of a mile down the road and it dropped to 0 then the car shut off again. He said the display says something about the battery (I haven't been over to look at the car).
They are sure its the hybrid battery, but if it was me I'd go to the dealer and find out for sure. My husbands aunt had her hybrid battery go out and hers did other things, like go into turtle mode and a/c blew hot. I think her inverter pump went out and she kept driving it till the battery got messed up, but anyway...What does my father in laws symptoms sound like? Is there any extra at home testing that can be done?
A month ago I bought a 2007 Prius with 140,000 km. I notice that the state of charge drops into the 'red' bars within about 20 minutes of the car switched on, in Park with no accessories running. A mechanic connected his diagnostic computer and saw 2 cells are low. However, the mechanic informs me there is no value in replacing those cells as others are likely to go down, thereafter. Is there anything I can do to avoid having to replace the entire traction battery?
View 10 RepliesI haven't see one that is related to this issue.
