Seems to be happening more and more frequently...I start the car and all lights come on except Ready aka the hybrid system... It takes many tries, and what the problem is?!

View 1 RepliesJust bought a new 2012 Prius Plug-in on Friday. Still learning the ropes. I've selected EV mode, and the EV mode indicator light is lit up as it should be on he dashboard above my steering wheel. As would be expected, to the right, the Hybrid System Indicator bar features a little car sitting on top of it with the letters "EV."
However, after a few minutes of driving, the letters "EV" disappear from the little car in the Hybrid System Indicator. The indicator doesn't switch the to HV screen (where the main bar is divided into two halves), but remains in the EV screen (where the main bar is undivided, with a little nub on the left for "charge" and on the right for "power.") And the EV mode indicator light above my steering wheel remains lit.
A few minutes later, the "EV" letters appear in the little car once again. Then they disappear, then they come back again. All along, I've had plenty of mileage left to go in EV mode (more than 6 miles).
Is this normal behavior? Is this simply what happens when the ICE kicks in despite being in EV mode? (And the ICE definitely kicked in - I saw that on the Energy Monitor graphic. And I understand why - it's been very cold here [northern NJ].)
I was driving my plug-in yesterday on the freeway and suddenly it alerted me the following:

Stop the vehicle in a safe place
I pulled over to the side and tried to reset the message (push power button 3x), but message still was coming up. With my Toyota dealership not too far away, decided to bring in my car to have it checked out.
After 2 hours with their hybrid tech, they were not able to replicate the message (of course, always the case), but the tech was able to catch a P0C3E error from their diag tool. Being that they could not replicate the issue, they released my car and started to bring it back it the issue persist.
I just hit 20,000 miles and my Hybrid System Indicator Trip B which has my historical data was reset to zero.
When I got to the first 10,000 miles it did the same thing but at that time I thought I reset it by mistake.
New 2015 PIP, got it 2 months ago, and it drove fine till Thursday, when this message came up. I believe I first got a "Charge interrupted due to malfunction" and then the dreaded "Check Hybrid System, Stop the vehicle in a safe place." alert with all the engine lights on.
Took it to the dealer and they charge it up, cleared the message, and gave it back. They told me it was because I shared the car's outlet with something else, and then threatened to charge me money if I came back because it was my fault. Took it home, charged it exactly the way they told me to, and this morning the error message came back up. Going to take it in to the dealer tomorrow.
Yesterday while driving on the freeway in EV mode, my PIP (one of the first delivered to the states) flashed the "Check Hybrid System - Stop the vehicle in a safe place" message. I was near my house so I just went home. My SG2 showed code P0C3E, which is apparently an inverter over temperature code.
Took it to the dealer this morning and they just informed me that the car needs a new inverter, but no other details… "internal fault" is what he said.
While googling, i found this recall notice:

that doesn't talk specifically about the PIP and implies that it is a software problem, but goes on to say if the car is in a fault condition the inverter will be replaced. of course, it's possible that a software problem leads to hardware damage.
So a little over a month ago, I was driving my 2010 Prius (about 42k miles) when the Check Hybrid System light came on. I lost power and my car was stuck on the road, as I was unable to get it into neutral. So I called a tow truck and was towed to my local dealership. The dealership ran some tests, thought it might have been the throttle body. They switched my throttle body with a loaner prius to see if this fixed the problem. The new throttle body worked in my car and my throttle body was put into the loaner and functioned fine. Then they ended up fixing a TSB for the electronics in the car. I was told the problem was resolved and I could pick up the car about a week later.
After picking up the car a week later, before I could even drive away from the dealership, the Check Hybrid System warning came on again. I talked with the service manager and left my car to be fixed again. They checked all the systems and were still unsure what the problem was. Eventually they made sure all the connectors were properly seated and test drove the car and ensured the problem was gone. About two weeks later, I was told the car was fixed and I could pick it up.
After picking up the car, I was still unsure the problem was fixed, but I was told that was all I could do. After having the car, for about a 1.5 weeks I was on the highway. Once again, the check hybrid system light came on and I lost engine power. Luckily, I was able to pull over from the left lane without causing an accident. Once again, I had the car towed to the dealer and now I am waiting to hear back from them.
I ran out of gas in my 2011 Prius and immediately all warning lights came on as well as the "check hybrid system" light. After filling the gas I read similar threads on here and trouble shooted the battery. 12v Battery tested good, so now what is the next step? I also did a reset on the 12v battery and that didn't work.
View 19 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius Persona with about 5,300 miles on the vehicle. Just recently had the 5,000 mile service taken care of at a local toyota dealership. The very next day I tried to start my vehicle with no prevail. My instrument panel indicates "check hybrid system" (!) the car will not start, nor will it shift into drive or reverse, only into the neutral position. Made several attempts to turn vehicle on and off and tried to jump start. Still no luck. Had the car towed back to the dealership. Mechanics are still trying to identify the problem. What may be the cause?
View 5 RepliesMy wife just called and said this light came on. She said when it came on the car turned off its cruise control but kept running. Now she says it seems to be running fine but the light is coming on.
The car has around 110k miles and I just replaced the spark plugs, air filter and engine oil about 1k miles ago. What it could be? I'm going to have her pull codes at the auto parts store but she needs to do about 20-30 miles of driving today for work. Is it safe for her to do so?
I added fog lights, and I removed the fuse box and body computer to do so. I disconnected the 12V battery for most of the work, but later I did pull a couple of under-the -dash connectors with the battery connected.
Now I get the screen saying "check hybrid system", "don't drive". I've tried the turn-the-key-on-three-times technique, and I disconnected the battery for 30 mins. Still the message persists.
Using my Torque app, I can clear the ECU fault and the message disappears. However, when I start the car the next time, the message is back. Everything else seems ok.
I checked all the cabin fuses and most of the engine compartment fuses. I took everything apart again, and double checked the fit of all the connectors under the dash. It seems that I have thrown a code which keeps popping up every time I turn the ignition on.
I have a 2006 prius with 129,000 miles,,i was driving to work in the moring and the hybrid system light came on. So after work went to a friends house to check the code and it has 2 codes.... First one is p0a08 and the second code p3108. Before this happened 2 months ago it had the same problem, a/c stop blowing cold . Park my car for a 3 hours. And every thing was back to normal...but this time light is on and no a/c.......
View 9 RepliesI was driving to work yesterday and all of a sudden the "Hybrid System Warning Light" just came on the screen. I didn't notice anything different and drove it the same way. However, when I checked the energy monitor screen, the battery was low on charge. It came back to normal in about 5 minutes, but the light is still lit up.
View 9 RepliesMy 2007 just came due for an oil change a week ago (Maint Reqd stays on), not that it matters. Yesterday the Red triangle of death, Check Engine, and brake warning lights came on. We drove another 15 minutes (city) without incident. When I turned the car back on the brake warning was off (and has stayed off) but now the Info Display has the red Hybrid System Warning Light also showing, along with Mr. Triangle and Check Engine.
This morning Autozone read out the P0A93 (confirmed) and C1300 (current) codes for me. With the car "Ready", I can see fluid movement in the inverter coolant reservoir (not sure it qualifies as "turbulence") and feel vibration in the line connected to the pump which is humming so quietly. The 12V battery shows 12.5V with the car off and 13.5V with the car on. Does this mean the inverter is still operating? (I read the P0A93 code is supposed to shut it down.)
I did find the ICE coolant reservoir dry and refilled it with SLLC. There looks to be a small leak in the water pump, but I'll deal with that later.
Last summer I had a catastrophic experience on a family vacation when my wife's 2012 Prius overheated on the highway and lost power. The dealer that we limped into kept it for a week and couldn't find any concrete problem, except to say that since it was a salvage vehicle rebuilt without Toyota brand parts, that all of the cooling system would need to be replaced. I waited until we barely made it home and had my mechanic replace the inverter pump.
Since then the "hybrid system overheat" warning light comes on regularly, especially when driving up a long climb, even in moderate weather. There are no codes. Is it possible that there is air in the lines? My mechanic says that it feels like the inverter pump is working, tho I don't see turbulence in ready mode. A link to bleeding the air?
My hybrid system warning light came on last night in my 2005 Prius with about 89,000 miles. The car may have run out of gas (I wasn't driving). This car will only take about 8.5 gallons when the fuel light starts flashing. I started it this morning, light was still on, only 2 bars on battery, my car usually runs near the green, and the gas engine stalled after about 30 seconds. The gas indicator was flashing, so I added a 1/2 gallon I had at the house, and unplugged the 12v for about 10 minutes to clear the system. Upon restarting, fuel light was still flashing, but no hybrid warning light. Drove a few miles, filled up with gas, and drove another mile.
So my question, could running out of gas and driving a very short distance (light came on as my wife turned into our driveway), cause this warning light to come on? If so, will there be any lasting effects? Did unplugging the 12v battery clear the computer codes, or can I still get these read to learn more about what happened?

I have a 2005 Prius with 135k miles. Yesterday the red exclamation light came on and also the hybrid system warning light. I shut the car off and it came on again. The third time the car started normally and it is driving normally today with no warnings. Does this sound like the 12 volt battery? It is original.
View 6 RepliesI was driving, when out of the blue my car went into neutral, and the dashboard lit up. Then all of a sudden the light stayed on "check hybrid system". I pulled over to side of road. AAA towed me.
THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. NO warning.
