When trying to get the most out of EV mode first thing in the morning, what's your experience on how long the car needs to run before turning on the heater? It's disheartening to see that solid MPG line suddenly plummet when I put the heat on!
View 14 RepliesAfter my 25k service it seems the timer scheduler when the square button is pressed/held flashes at 7am. When i press the H button the hour advances to 12am then closes. I want to start the charge at 12am and finish at 5AM. The timer windows closes when i move the finish hour to 12am and then my regular clock hour changes. It used to be when i pressed/held the timer button the start time would show at 12 am and after setting it would go to the finish hour.

Why when I turn on the heat on auto mode why does the AC also turn on and then i have to manually shut off the AC?
View 1 RepliesBack in 2012 when I first bought my PIP, the battery charge level as indicated by range was 17-18 miles. The energy to fill the battery has been consistently ~2.5-2.7 kwh.
Earlier this year it dropped to about 15 miles. And just recently it's dropped to about 13.5 miles. The weather has gotten cooler in the last few weeks here in SF, so I don't know how much of this is seasonal as I haven't been keeping track that closely.
I expect to see charge capacity loss over time for the main LiON battery and would like to know what to expect and if my PIP is typical. How much further decrease should I expect in the next couple years? Is your PIP doing better or worse than mine?
I have a 2010, the EV mode ( as you know) takes a certain amount of time before it kicks in, depending on the weather. I do a lot of very short(3 mi) trips.
View 10 RepliesWhen I drive the PiP in EV Boost mode, the gas engine rpm stays very low, so is the engine sound. It sounds like it is just idling since it revs at 1,000 rpm.
When I am going 75 mph, the engine revs at very low rpm and I had a hard time keeping it below 80 mph. My mind is tricked into believing I am going slower than the actual speed. I think I am using the sound of the engine to judge the speed or something.
It felt like I am driving a different car, one with two more cylinders.
EV Boost is when you are in EV and go above 65 mph. ICE comes on and blend gas with electricity.
Is it just me? What are your experience in the EV Boost / Blended mode?
I've found it difficult trying to turn on the climate control in EV mode without engaging the ICE, especially on sunny mornings where it might be relatively cool outside (about 16-18 C/60-65 F) but the cabin is heating up quickly. I usually have it set to around 20-23 C (68-73 F) but usually in these conditions the ICE will start immediately after turning on the fans (AC off). How to avoid this? Or do I just need to set the climate control to "Lo" at the end of my previous journey? I've never been able to turn down the temperature quickly enough after turning it on without the ICE starting.

Having just taken delivery of a pip I am wondering if there is any way to turn on the rear view camera when you are moving forward? It would actually provide better vision over the rear view mirror.
View 12 RepliesOn a recent 3k plus trip where I pulsed and glided a ton, when the PIP was in HV mode but gliding in the sweet spot where I had thought the engine would stop turning, no matter how I tweaked the glide, the ICE always turned at a minimum of 998 RPM per my torque app. The display was always showing 999 mpg in that situation so I assume it wasn't using fuel but just rotating freely. Is that the default behavior for HV mode? I,e, always rotating at 998 minimum rpm perhaps so it can kick in quickly if need be without vibration?? If so, the 10k oil change interval seems dicey as the engine is technically turning all the time when in HV mode. I was planning to change at 5k anyway.

View 4 RepliesI am sure I read somewhere that the 2014 advanced and/or advanced tech had larger wheels but am unable to confirm that now. Whenever I switch to EV mode after turning on the vehicle, it starts the ICE. Is this normal? If so, why would it do that?

View 9 RepliesI have noticed that when I put my 01 Prius in "D" after I turn the key but, before the ICE starts, it seems to force it into an "EV" mode (the ICE doesn't start, and I can drive on battery only until its charge is way lower than the system usually lets it get). I also get all the warning lights (Triangle, Check Engine and Hybrid Warning). If I pull over, turn it off and turn it back on, the ICE will start and the car will function normally (all the warning lights will still be on unless I cycle the ignition several times). It has happened to me at least 5x in the past two years (only because I'm so impatient and put the car in "D" too fast not because I'm trying to do it).
View 3 RepliesI am about to finish up my graduate studies here in Ohio, after which, my wife and I will be headed back to California. We are in desperate need of a second car, but have decided to wait until we move to get one. My wonderful in laws have said that they are willing to split the cost of a new car with us. With that said, we have already decided that we want to get a Prius, but we can't decide which one. We both really like the V. We love how roomy the car is. This is very important to us because we are going to start a family soon. However, we also like the regular Prius and the PiP. I really like the PiP but am a little concerned about the new batteries, and I am not sure that I want to pay the early adapter premium assuming one is even available. But, only paying half for a PiP sounds rather tempting. Considering all that I just said, if you were in my shoes what car would you get and why?
View 12 RepliesI have been noticing that my prius wouldn't often turn OFF when pushing the On/Off button for the 1st time. For some reason, I often had to push the button 2x, just to turn off the car (2008). Yesterday, the 12v starter battery went dead, so I changed it. It seems that the On/Off button now works better as well. Are these 2 things related? Has noticed the On/Off button not responding on the 1st attempt at turning the car off?

View 2 RepliesNew to the Prius family. Bought a 2014 PIP advanced last week strictly as an economic play. Am noob when it comes to driving techniques, currently average 72 mpg on 90 mi. trips with one charge, so doing better than I expected. I did read up on the Pulse and Glide techniques for the standard Prius and the 'verification' of the glide portion for those is the lack of any power arrows emanating from either the ICS , MG2 or battery on the MID. I have been unable to replicate this on the PIP. In other words, when I am 'gliding' on my PIP, the ICS is off but there always seems to be a green charge indicator flowing back to the batteries from the front wheels.
Keep in mind, my foot is on the accelerator slightly, there is no 'white' bar protruding into the CHG area or the ECO area and I know I am 'gliding/coasting' as no matter how long I am in this sweet spot, even though the charge arrows are active, I DO NOT top up the battery at all, which says to me the car is indeed 'gliding' without the regenerative brakes or ICS in play and it certainly FEELS like I'm gliding as with over-inflated tires (44/42) the PIP seemingly coasts forever. I'm thinking this is a different behavior from a standard Prius in this 'glide' sweet spot, as, at least on my PIP, I can never get the MID to blank out in terms of energy flow. I.E. have you managed a 'pulse and glide' in a PIP getting the all energy flow arrows to disappear .
I am thinking of upgrading to a pip. I work in my car and was wondering if I plug it in can I still have the a/c running while it is plugged in or not? i read somewhere that if you turn the car into ready mode the systems won't allow it.
View 6 RepliesWe just picked up our PIP and are super excited......except that the GPS is locked on Kentucky? It does not locate us here in Sacramento, CA and the dealer said if we can't get it working, they obviously will be fixing it.
