Often when I am turning the steering wheel, even a little it now seems, I hear a whooshing/rubbing sound and feel just a little bit of that rubbing. It feels/sounds like it's coming from the housing right behind the wheel itself, maybe where the shaft bearing is. Is this normal?
View 9 RepliesI'm still getting use to the center dash design. When I look at my steering wheel at night the buttons are barely lit. I'm assuming there is no way to make them brighter? Brightness control does not seem to affect the steering wheel.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?

View 4 RepliesInstalled eibach springs on the 7th gen camry? I installed mine this weekend, and I'm getting a like a rubbing sound when I turn the wheel from only the driver side. I removed the strut and spring combo to make sure everything was installed and aligned properly and it was. Just can't put my finger on why its only making that sound on the driver side.

View 2 RepliesSometimes my steering wheel squeaks. It sounds like plastic rubbing against plastic. The first dealership said the compartment under the steering wheel was rubbing against the column or something inside and that they made an adjustment and the sound stopped. It didn't. The second dealership told me they couldn't figure it out unless they heard the sound. Since it's not every time I drive, sure enough it made no noise at the dealership that day. The head of the shop looked into it and couldn't figure it out. He dry-lubed behind the steering wheel to get to a spring back there. He did the same for where the steering column comes into the car at the bottom of the car. Good for a few days. Squeaking back today.
View 9 RepliesThe steering on my wife's 2010 Tiguan makes a bit of a grinding/rubbing noise at low speeds? Something isn't right, it sounds the same way my X5 did when the Rack needed to be replaced. It would be strange to have 2 cars needing new racks within the same year....especially since they are both 2010 model.
View 9 RepliesI'm rolling down the freeway in stop and go traffic, so I have been EV stacking. Clicked from EV to HV several times over the course of 5 minutes. Then, I hear this fairly high pitched revving sound - even and constant rev up, not rev/idle/rev. I thought it was the truck next to me, so I turn down the radio and away from the truck but it happened again. I would stomp on the gas for a moment, and it would subside - not completely because it would start doing it again very soon. I'm not accelerating, but it would be like throwing it into neutral and revving. When I come to a complete stop, it would not go to EV - the light isn't on like when it is warming up the ICE.
My exit was coming up soon, so I would alternate pumping the brake and gas to get it to stop. Only when I was at the light that I powered off the car to reboot. Since then, it did not recur. Strange... Perhaps related, but I doubt it - I had bumped into a vehicle around 3-4 mph the day before. I was... drowsy.
When I test drive the PIP, I kept hearing a high frequency pitch noise whenever the car was accelerating. It almost sounds like when you lightly touch the trigger on a cordless drill. Sales guy and my wife couldn't hear it, but I do have extremely sensitive hearing.
A quick search didn't reveal anything, so I am wondering if this is a problem, or maybe part of the pedestrian warning system (although it happens at higher speeds as well).
Found the answer... it's the brake booster pump...
View 3 RepliesAll of a sudden, the brakes (rear) are making a rubbing sound. Could it somehow be caused by dust? The car is parked on the street and it's been VERY dry here lately. When I used the car a few days ago, they sounded fine. Reason to bring it to our mechanic or not? It's a 1995 Chrysler Concorde.
View 11 RepliesI have been getting increased noise coming from the back of my car for the past month. So I jacked up the car and spun the tires and heard grinding noises in the rear right. I have a 2012 ToyotaPrius plug-in with 33,000 miles. When driving the car around 40 miles an hour there would be a howling sound coming from the back of the car regardless of the type of pavement I was driving on.
So I took it to the dealer today and they had it up on the rack in about an hour later they came to me and said it needed new tires and it would be about $700 and that this was likely causing the noise. I said that there was no way that it was the tires so I went and showed the mechanic how old the sound was coming out of the back right wheel. He listened with his stethoscope on the wheel bearings and said that he did hear some noise in there but still thought it was the tires.
I am sure I read somewhere that the 2014 advanced and/or advanced tech had larger wheels but am unable to confirm that now. Whenever I switch to EV mode after turning on the vehicle, it starts the ICE. Is this normal? If so, why would it do that?
View 8 RepliesHappened to go down to garage to get something from pip about 3 hours after charge was complete and noticed loud hum coming from right rear wheel well area.
We had not had any lightning storms, electrical interruptions or anything odd; house is on whole house surge protection, and 240v evse has been working fine.
Hum disappeared when car was booted up in ev for a moment and then turned off. Hasn't come back on in an hour.
Just bought an 05 yesterday. It has 193k. The steering seems to have some play and an occasional clunking sound when turning the wheel. I do not know of a dealer or an independent shop that will give me an honest opinion or quote..

I notice when I go over expansion joints on the freeway with my window open I can hear a bit of a clank sound. I do not hear it with the windows closed.
Also it must be done at speed > 55mph.
I do have a trailer hitch but it seems quite tight.
Is this normal? Is it an issue I should bring up at the 5k service?
When I was reversing back and turning the steering wheel. I heard a metal clunk sound and it had happened twice in the past two days. Today happened after I released the parking brake and set it to reverse. What is the problem? Miles on the car is ~30700 miles.

I thought it was my remote battery so I Changed the battery and still nothing works. I get the Orange caution light on the dash and a clicking sound from the engine area . No lights come on. Nothing.
