I'm still getting use to the center dash design. When I look at my steering wheel at night the buttons are barely lit. I'm assuming there is no way to make them brighter? Brightness control does not seem to affect the steering wheel.
View 11 RepliesOften when I am turning the steering wheel, even a little it now seems, I hear a whooshing/rubbing sound and feel just a little bit of that rubbing. It feels/sounds like it's coming from the housing right behind the wheel itself, maybe where the shaft bearing is. Is this normal?

I own a 2012 Toyota Camry SE and I am trying to figure out why I can't skip songs using the controls on my steering wheel when my phone(Samsung Galaxy Note 4) is connected to the car via Bluetooth. The car connects to my phone via Bluetooth without a hitch, but every time I play music from my phone and I try and skip a song by pressing the right arrow on the steering wheel, it doesn't respond. The odd thing is, every once in a while when I do try skipping songs, it works! The problem is, I have to press the arrow key multiple times and almost a once in a blue moon type of deal.
View 6 RepliesMy fuse controls cigarette lighter has apparently stopped working. I use it to charge my phone on trips. I had plugged in an inverter in an attempt to run a small fridge (for camping) and maybe that blew it out. The inverter didn't work but I could run it directly off the battery terminals. that was too much work and there were bears around anyway so I bagged the project.
View 9 RepliesI just bought a 2013 Totyota Camry LE. Everything is great so far besides the bluetooth. I do not have problem connecting but when I connect my phone via bluetooth while streaming radio like pandora or iheartradio or even local files, I cannot skip tracks using the controls on the steering wheel. Also there is no next/previous track button on the touch panel. Am I doing something wrong or was it how this system was designed.
View 1 RepliesI bought my truck as a 2012 base XLT model, with no Sync and no audio control buttons on the right-hand side of the steering wheel. Since then, I have retrofitted in the stock navigation / audio system, added the Sync module, and installed a new steering wheel which came with the proper audio / sync controls on the right-hand side.
After installing the steering wheel, all of the buttons on both the left and right sides light up properly at night, and the controls on the left side for cruise and the message center still work fine. I had the dealer reprogram the SCCM to the VIN of a 2011 Lariat truck which had nav. However, they told me they could not get the wheel controls to work and ended up reprogramming the SCCM back to my VIN.
I would really like to get this to work. In consulting with the company that set me up with the navi and Sync, they said there may be some module which acts as a gateway between the SCCM and the audio system, but not really sure which module that is. Could be the BCM or the instrument cluster.
Trying setting up new controls in the steering wheel of a Prius? I have the "four" package so there's a blank spot on the right side where the radar cruise and lane assist controls would be, and I would kill to have the three driving mode buttons right there for easy switching while driving around town. Is that sort of thing even technically possible?

View 8 RepliesMy 07 Prius has developed a problem and i would like to get opinions about whether the problem could've been caused by the body work I had done a week before.
i want to know if i should take it back to the body shop and ask them to check it, or, if it's not likely to have been caused by the body work, then i'll just take it to the Toyota agency. If it wasn't the body shop, I am hoping to have it covered by the Prius Chat platinum warranty.
When presenting this to the body shop or the Toyota agency, i would like to be as informed as possible about what the possibilities are.
The problem is that some of the steering wheel controls are not working. Some of the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel are not responding. The Info button does not work, and the climate related buttons on the bottom get no response. The Map button and all the bluetooth phone buttons do work.
At first, there was a delayed response when using the Info button. The next day, it stopped responding at all.
Background (not sure if it's relevant): My car was in the body shop for 13 days. I got it back on 8/24. Damage was too the bottom right side, doors and adjacent body.
When i picked up the car and drove it, it seemed fine except that the MPG average was only 25mpg. Normally for me, it's around 38 to 40. It has gradually come back up. for this reason, i was frequently pressing the Info button on the steering wheel to bring up the screen that shows the current mpg average.
So I found a guy selling an OEM Part # 86100-06040 navigation for cheap. Is it as simple as plug and play for switching it out on my 2013 Non Navigation Carmy Hybrid? Does all the steering wheel controls are there?
View 13 RepliesI use my touch screen a lot on my prius. When I do use my steering wheel controls for the radio it won't change from station settings 1-2-3. But it will change stations on station settings 1-2-3. Is it possible to use the steering wheel controls to go through all of the radio stations? This might allow me to stop using my touch screen controls so much.
View 8 RepliesOwner of a brand new '13 Prius C Two. No "Entune" system, just the basic radio. I connect my iPhone 5 via Bluetooth; it works wonderfully. I can still use the handset controls to make phone calls; I have speed dials set up, and using my iPhone 5 as a phone in the car works great.
What stopped working this morning: skipping tracks using either the "Seek" button on the Prius radio itself as well as the controls on the steering wheel. Volume controls on the radio itself AND on the steering wheel work just fine for adjusting the volume.
The "Pause/Play" button on the Prius radio does work, but only after about :04 seconds or so. A song or podcast will play; the steering wheel controls for skipping tracks does not work; same with the Seek button on the radio itself; and pressing the pause/play button works, but not immediately after depressing it. Takes a few seconds.The only way to skip ahead/backward is on the iPhone itself.
For the almost 2 months I've owned the Prius C, this is the first time this has happened. Connecting audio via Bluetooth has "just worked" every single day. What's perplexing about this is that I've changed nothing on the iPhone overnight. The Seek button on the Prius radio worked fine yesterday, as did the steering wheel controls not even 24 hours ago.
The Seek button on the radio itself does work with the radio and a CD. Same with the steering wheel controls; as long as I'm not trying to control the iPhone, it works fine.
Some of my controls on the steering wheel are not working. Is that a simple fuse swap or a take it to the dealer type fix? I tried to check on the fuse thing, but was unable to find anything related to the steering wheel.

I expected to lose steering wheel controls for the radio and hands free, but I did not expect to lose the steering wheel controls for my climate control and multi function display. I can no longer use the Disp, Trip, and climate control buttons now.
View 7 RepliesMy steering wheel controls on the lower half quit working last year , then the cruise control quit intermittently last month , then the air bag light starts appearing last week. Deciding this means a failed clock spring / spiral cable , I took apart my spiral cable housing, and found two obvious breaks in the electrical wiring . I first bought a salvage unit on Ebay, to find it arrived bound, didn't turn freely (and no returns from seller). I then bought one from the dealer and installed it last week and very happily have all symptoms fixed!
The replacement was easier than I expected, the steering wheel was not actually very tight, I doubt I needed the steering wheel puller I 'borrowed' from the parts store , could have just loosed the main nut, wiggled and tugged it loose. Just a note be sure to remove 12 volt power from the car, and mark the steering wheel center shaft to the steering wheel for reinstall .
As a rural mail carrier I deliver mail out of my prius with the window down, traveling about 5 hours a day on dusty ,sand roads in Kansas. The car interior gets dusty and this caused the failure of the spiral cable.
Pic's of the old failed unit, the new one comes with some lubricant, white perhaps lithium grease for the ribbons/ wheels, mine had dryed up patches of grease, some I cleaned off the ribbons before the pictures where taken. I'll check the new one in a year, may regrease , cleaning it out to try to prevent this from happening again. I did add some plastic under the airbag to improvise a dust shield for the new spiral cable. Car has 197k bought it with 106k , now has around 60 k from driving on the route.
I have been getting increased noise coming from the back of my car for the past month. So I jacked up the car and spun the tires and heard grinding noises in the rear right. I have a 2012 ToyotaPrius plug-in with 33,000 miles. When driving the car around 40 miles an hour there would be a howling sound coming from the back of the car regardless of the type of pavement I was driving on.
So I took it to the dealer today and they had it up on the rack in about an hour later they came to me and said it needed new tires and it would be about $700 and that this was likely causing the noise. I said that there was no way that it was the tires so I went and showed the mechanic how old the sound was coming out of the back right wheel. He listened with his stethoscope on the wheel bearings and said that he did hear some noise in there but still thought it was the tires.
I am sure I read somewhere that the 2014 advanced and/or advanced tech had larger wheels but am unable to confirm that now. Whenever I switch to EV mode after turning on the vehicle, it starts the ICE. Is this normal? If so, why would it do that?
View 8 RepliesHappened to go down to garage to get something from pip about 3 hours after charge was complete and noticed loud hum coming from right rear wheel well area.
We had not had any lightning storms, electrical interruptions or anything odd; house is on whole house surge protection, and 240v evse has been working fine.
Hum disappeared when car was booted up in ev for a moment and then turned off. Hasn't come back on in an hour.
