Great car, Love it! It's a big improvement from the 2006 Prius.
When applying the brakes and holding the pedal down, I notice that the indicator for slippery/traction yellow icon appears in my dash when completely stopped.
There is no map option on the steering wheel that allows you to switch back to the Nav/Map system on the HD display. Is there a voice command?
Okay, I never experienced this on my Prius C, but now that's I've upgraded to a 2013 Prius Plug-In, I can duplicate it:
When traveling on the highway (at like 60MPG) and I brake a little hard (but not pedal fully to the floor), I hear and feel a 'click' through the brake pedal as it slows through 25MPH. A car pulled out in my lane, and I had to brake suddenly and felt/heard this 'click' at that speed. Did some testing on an off-ramp with the same situation (50MPH - heavy breaking - feel/hear click at 25MPH).
I think this is the transition from the regen braking to the brake pads, but I'm unsure. Not sure if it's ABS either. I've looked at a ton of Gen3 braking threads here on PC, but I was unable to find my exact issue. The car only has 3000 miles on it,
Loving my upgrade so far (but having weird fueling problems - doesn't seem like I can 'fill' the tank, always lose the first 'blip' too fast), and enjoy the freedom of being able to charge for local driving.
I have noticed that when driving in EV mode when the car switches over to HV mode the Eco icon always lights up! Of course you can select Eco, or Power mode manually, but when it does this automatically, after the EV battery charge is used up, it keeps showing the Eco icon being lite not HV.
View 1 RepliesJust bought a new 2012 Prius Plug-in on Friday. Still learning the ropes. I've selected EV mode, and the EV mode indicator light is lit up as it should be on he dashboard above my steering wheel. As would be expected, to the right, the Hybrid System Indicator bar features a little car sitting on top of it with the letters "EV."
However, after a few minutes of driving, the letters "EV" disappear from the little car in the Hybrid System Indicator. The indicator doesn't switch the to HV screen (where the main bar is divided into two halves), but remains in the EV screen (where the main bar is undivided, with a little nub on the left for "charge" and on the right for "power.") And the EV mode indicator light above my steering wheel remains lit.
A few minutes later, the "EV" letters appear in the little car once again. Then they disappear, then they come back again. All along, I've had plenty of mileage left to go in EV mode (more than 6 miles).
Is this normal behavior? Is this simply what happens when the ICE kicks in despite being in EV mode? (And the ICE definitely kicked in - I saw that on the Energy Monitor graphic. And I understand why - it's been very cold here [northern NJ].)
So at 3 months and 4700 miles on the OD my car threw an over temp indicator driving to work. 5:30 am about 60-65 degrees with a passenger driving over the Santa Susana grade which is a 2 1/2 or so mile grade it starts showing the over temp indicator.
I had not plugged in the night before and had only been in the car for about 7 minutes. I was driving somewhere around 70 miles an hour and that ICE was screaming like it always does. As I backed off the throttle the lamp went out and I cruised it to work. I checked under the hood at work and sure enough it had spewed coolant around the pressurized coolant tank.

My nephew borrowed the car for an hours and after that probably he went on a highway the hybrid indicator light is red and also the power light is red.
I just hit 20,000 miles and my Hybrid System Indicator Trip B which has my historical data was reset to zero.
When I got to the first 10,000 miles it did the same thing but at that time I thought I reset it by mistake.
This morning, I found out that my Camry 2012's backup light did not turn on. When I changed the tranmission shift, there no any letters like D, P, or R appear on the meter panel. Moreover, on the panel, the check engine and slip indicator icon lights turned on. How to fix this problem. I already installed the aftermarket backup camera, and it doesn't work also
View 9 RepliesI just got my brakes fixed. I heard squeaking and they were rough. At the shop, they told me that the brakes had glazed. They had to machine the rotors. Mileage: 20K.
View 19 RepliesI haven't noticed it before but applying the brakes after driving thru snow I get an awful crunch sound. I have stopped the car a few times to look and it appears the wheel wells are clogged with slush but I don't know if that's whats causing it. After the crunching sound if I'm driving on a clear road there is no noise if I brake. Its much worse than say the crunch you get if the brakes are wet. Whats up with this?
View 3 RepliesI have had the traction light come on twice when at a stop light. Once was when I was reaching back to give my daughter her juice that was in the front cup holder. The other time I was trying to get something out of my pocket to give to someone in the car.
View 11 RepliesMy 2014 pip has an odd noise I first notice when pull out of the garage. When I am traveling in reverse and hit the brakes there is a loud click as if something in the suspension is shifting. Then when in drive I have the same click the first time I hit the brakes.
I also hear a metallic rattle on the highway over expansion joints. The dealer says that noise is nothing but coupled with the click under breaking I am sure some item is loose.
I have 2012 accent. I purchased it in May 2014 when it had 35,000 miles. Now it has 75,000 miles.
Sometimes I hear sounds when brakes are applied..this happens mainly when going down on sloppy roads with pot holes. lets say if i see a signal turning orange and I apply brakes intermittently to stop vehicle, i hear rough sounds like 2 metals hitting when car goes over those pot holes. hope i made sense. sometimes it comes when its raining heavily and brakes are applied. other than that, this sound doesn't come during normal ride and normal breaking.
What could this be? Firestone does inspection during every oil change and they said all is good. I don't know if they check brake system.
Today all of a sudden my yellow engine indicator lighted up. I tried turning off the vehicle and start it back to see whether it goes off. No luck in that effort.
I have Prius 2012. I serviced it last on 10/31/2014 and I have now run 8000 Kilo Meters after the last service. I am using 0W-20 as my engine oil.
I see the vehicle going to EV mode and Engine mode depending on the way I drive and I've even achieved 20Kmpl in the last run. Could this be a sensor or a serious issue.
Today after running several errands, I stopped by the local CarWash to rinse the car. Same as always, parking brake off, shift into neutral and away we go. Half way threw she starts beeping, I see the yellow triangle and to the right a boxed message "LOW TRACTION BATTERY SHIFT INTO P POSITION". There was a sudden rush of anxiety because I could not shift while being conveyor-ed threw the wash. As soon as I was pushed out and the light turned green, I shifted into drive to exit. The warning and box cleared instantly.
I pulled into parking, shifted into P, and noticed the battery indicator had only 1 bar. Did a quick walk around of the car and got back on the road thinking, head directly the Dealership. Before I got to the freeway I was back up 4 bars and climbing. Continued on the freeway and within 2 exits all looked normal. As it is Saturday and the Dealership was 1 hour from closing, I proceeded home. Later we went to dinner and an event, then came home. All is still normal. Owners Manual only states to follow the command on page 515.
I know this is a long story and was intentional to starve off multiple questions. The only thing I can think is that the air conditioner, radio and headlights were on prior to, while waiting my turn for wash (park-roll-park-roll...) and up to the point of the warning (tuned off all at that point) while in the tunnel. However this is normal for me. Will monitor the battery indicator more closely for a while. I'm sure this event latched in a computer somewhere, so will run by the Dealer if anything else acts up again. A/C and radio and lights are turned off now while in "neutral", for whatever reason. The car is a 2010 II and only 27600 miles. Was not a pleasant feeling.
My last ride was as 1988 Ford pick up 275,000 miles ... the poor thing finally died ... but it gave good service right to the end. I replaced the Ford with a 2009 Prius and it's a great car. So far no problems just routine stuff until a day or so ago. The little yellow "Windshield air flow indicator light" can on. I checked my Bentley book and it doesn't tell me anything. So what I should be look for to fix the problem. Other than "Take it back to the dealer"
View 4 RepliesI took delivery last week of a new 2012 F250 with a 6.7 Power Stroke Diesel. This is my third F250 with a Power Stroke Diesel. My first one was a 1997 w/7.3 PSD and my last one was 2001 w/7.3 PSD which I traded in for the 2012.
Now for my problem. The brakes seem spongy to me. When I am applying the brakes I get what seems like a longer than normal pedal travel (to me anyway) and soft. The braking isn't as good as my last two F250's. If I pump the brakes, the brake pedal firms up and the braking really improves. I have not contacted my dealer yet.
The yellow key icon came on in the MFI, which means the key battery is dead. The other key works fine.I'd like to replace the battery myself and reprogram the key (if necessary) instead of leaving it at the dealer for a day. How to open the key and reprogram? I looked in archives and the one set of instructions doesn't work. Nothing in FAQs.

I have the following warning lights on:
1) Check Engine
2) Yellow Indicator, looks like exclamation point inside a circle inside parenthesis.
3) Red Multi-information display (exclamation point inside a triangle)
4) Hybrid System Warning Light on display screen, looks like exclamation point through a car
The engine cranks up just fine and drives forward and backward in the driveway fine. Battery level indicator is blue (see image). I checked for turbulence in the inverter reservoir with the engine off and fluid was flowing.
I checked the 12V battery (using the car's measurements by holding Display and turning lights on and off 3 times) and its value was 12.1 volts without engine and A/C on and 11.8 volts with them on.
The fan in the back right passenger seat is always on now though (I don't remember ever hearing this fan noise before), regardless of engine on or not, even though it's only about 80 degrees outside and it's been sitting idle all day and all last night. It comes on pretty much immediately when the power button is pushed.
I have noticed brake groaning sounds ocassionally when applying the brakes. When this happens the pedal seems spongy takes longer to stop. After the car is turned off in the garage I have heard the same kinds of sound coming from the car. It almost sounds like the car in sequencing through checks after the system has been turned off.
View 7 RepliesWhen I apply the brakes at speeds of 30 mph and under I hear a ticking noise. (The noise might still be there above 30 mph , but due to road noise I cant hear it)
I believe it is the front drivers side but after taking wheel off and taking it to the dealership. I can not find the problem. The dealership states they can't hear it while on several road test, but I have showed them the video clip and they have no idea what it is.
