Installion of hitch and trailer wiring on a 2015 PIP?
I found ZERO posts about installing a Curt 11276 hitch on a 2015 PIP. Or installing ANY OTHER hitch on a 2015 PIP.
Same applies to adding wiring for towing a trailer behind a 2015 PIP.
Like most of PIPPOS (plug in Prius pre orderers) I have been planning this install for a while. I am glad it was so simple and came in under budget.
Charging transformer attached to wall with velcro command strips so can be removed if needed. Next to that (closest to car plug) is a plastic garden hose hanger I picked up at lowest.
I am perfectly pleased with how quick and easy this install was and how perfectly it works for the car.
I have a 1997 F150. I installed a trailer towing kit round 7 pin. I followed the instruction and replaced three different fuses after installation. The passenger side turn signal will not work. I replaced the bulb. The brake light works and the bulb is on when the lights are on it just will not blink. When the turnsignal is on it clicks very quickly.
View 4 RepliesI recently purchased a Rear Bumper Protector for 2010-2014 Toyota Prius for my 2014 PIP. I thought I had it in the correct position when I removed the adhesive strips to install it but realized the next day that the curvature is not lined up properly causing a gap in between the bumper and the protector. My stomach sank when I realized this error.
View 8 RepliesMy park lamp circuit is dead. I have tested with a multi-meter and there IS power at the fuse. However, no power at the plug. I have pulled the bumper and found the plug for both the rear taillights (the park lamp circuit WORKS in the taillights) and the trailer wires. Confirmed it is dead there as well.
Both bundles go into the frame rail at the fuel tank, but I not sure which is which where it comes out at the firewall. A web search did not reveal a diagram and the Ford repair CD I have does not list Excursion diagrams.
A parking garage backed my 2012 Yukon XL into a cement wall. The trailer hitch is pushed back from its original position at least 3-4 inches. I took it to a dealership today and they said the frame is bent, but they could repair it.
View 8 RepliesMy wife backed the truck into a pole and bent the driver's side bumper and one of the ears on the trailer hitch (the part that bolts to the frame). I bought all the parts that need to be replaced (the left bumper end, the hitch itself, and the plastic bumper cover), gut am hesitant to try to change it all myself. How hard is it to change out all these parts? Is there a write-up any where out there for this?

View 8 RepliesJust bought an 04 Super duty with the factory plug 7pin and 4 pin plug. Checked the fuses and finally tracked down the 2 relays under the hood but can't seem to find anything wrong. Everything on the trailer works except for the running lights. Is there another fuse or something I have missed? Trailer works fine on my buddies Duramax and worked fine on my old 97.

Anyways, i bought an "add-a-circuit" to make it easier - basically it allows the kit to plug into an existing fuse (see )
I'd like to choose a 'switched' 12V source in the fuse box to connect this to. ideally I'd like to have the interior lights turn on when I switch on my headlights! I don't want the source/fuse i pick to be "always on".
I was looking at the fuse box description in the manual for the driver's side instrument panel - the number 1 - tail - 10A - parking lights, side marker lights, etc. - is that the one i should use? i don't know how A relates to 12V sources... shrugs
i don't know anything about wiring.
After my 25k service it seems the timer scheduler when the square button is pressed/held flashes at 7am. When i press the H button the hour advances to 12am then closes. I want to start the charge at 12am and finish at 5AM. The timer windows closes when i move the finish hour to 12am and then my regular clock hour changes. It used to be when i pressed/held the timer button the start time would show at 12 am and after setting it would go to the finish hour.
View 8 RepliesI will be "building" and correcting the attached document as I install a WebElectric DRL-2P kit into a 2012 Prius v Five with the Advanced Technology Package. I will add photos and describe the colors of the Prius v wiring harness wires to which I connect the DRL-2P kit as I determine them with a test light.
I am NOT a professional but I have done many automotive projects in my almost 50 years of driving ... engine rebuilds, audio and phone systems, Euro headlights with and without washers, front and rear fog lights, horn mods and on and on.
This looks like an easy project - maybe a "3" on my "1 to 10 difficulty scale" - with the most difficult part being crawling under the car to remove panels and to make the connections with the turn signals ... not fun as I get older. This project should be substantially easier than the install of Scion IQ signal mirror covers on this same car which I documented on this forum and which was perhaps a "6" on my difficulty scale.
I just bought a hard to start 1990 F250. Per the board, just replaced all 8 glow plugs with Motorcraft. Still wouldn't start (it turns over but will only start if you use either). I attempted to install a new BWD brand (Borg Warner I believe) glow plug connector relay today...I removed the old no problem, but am unsure what wires to plug where....the only connection that I'm sure about is the blue wire that works the WTS feature...it plugs in easily but I don't know if there are other connections that need to be made or not? All the wires run from the posts and into the bottom of the unit.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to wire my 07 explorer for trailer brakes. Currently it is wired with a 4 flat. I found the connector under the dash that I plugged my wire harness and brake controller into, however, I can not locate where those wires go. I've traced the wires from my 4 flat in the back of my car but cant find the brake control wire. Where this might be hiding?

View 3 RepliesHooked up the toyhauler Friday and before we were off of our street I got the "Wiring Fault on Trailer", brakes on trailer worked, got out and verified the lights were working so we proceeded on.
When we got to the destination the manual says that if the fault stays on when disconnected it is an issue on the truck side, it is still on when the trailer is disconnected.
My trailer wiring is not working, at least from what I can tell. Embarrassingly, I know this because the little brake light I have in my trailer hitch no longer lights up. I've tried different bulbs and a different unit, so it's definitely the wiring. I do not have access to a trailer right now, so unfortunately that's all I have to go on. It's plugged into the 4 pin jack. Is this something I should be going to the dealer for, or more like a blown/loose fuse or something?
View 13 RepliesI have a VW Touareg hitch installed by the dealer. I tested the plug this weekend and found that I do not have running lights. Turn signals and brakes work fine. I discovered that my boat trailer uses a 5 pin flat plug to the round 7 pin that fits into the Touareg hitch receptacle. I believe most trailers use a 4 pin. Is there a fix?
View 10 RepliesI just bought an electric tongue jack for my utility trailer. Rather than mount a battery on the trailer, I bought a jack that has a 7 way plug, so you just plug into the truck in order to power up the jack. However! My '13 Platinum F150 appears to have a very smart 7 way plug. If I plug in the trailer, everything works fine on the trailer.
If I unplug the trailer and use my tester to check the power inside the 7 way plug on the truck, there is nothing. So when I plug in the jack, which only has 2 tabs on it's 7 way male - positions 4 and 1 (positive and negative since they are red and black) it does not turn on. I wired direct to my battery from the jack 7 way plug and jack works fine.
So I'm guessing that the 7 way plug is not powered up until it senses a trailer is plugged in somehow? Is there a way to override this? Also the 4 flat on the truck was dead when I put the tester to it as well. Maybe same thing? If not, I'll have to hard wire the jack into the trailer wiring harness as a work around I suppose.
I am about to finish up my graduate studies here in Ohio, after which, my wife and I will be headed back to California. We are in desperate need of a second car, but have decided to wait until we move to get one. My wonderful in laws have said that they are willing to split the cost of a new car with us. With that said, we have already decided that we want to get a Prius, but we can't decide which one. We both really like the V. We love how roomy the car is. This is very important to us because we are going to start a family soon. However, we also like the regular Prius and the PiP. I really like the PiP but am a little concerned about the new batteries, and I am not sure that I want to pay the early adapter premium assuming one is even available. But, only paying half for a PiP sounds rather tempting. Considering all that I just said, if you were in my shoes what car would you get and why?
View 12 RepliesI only get the fault when backing up. Driving forward it's never a problem. The truck is a 2015 F250. We are pulling a 33' travel trailer. Both are new. I was not sure if the fault when backing was something that happens or if it might be indicative of a problem. The manual says it's not an indicator of a problem. Rather, there might be an issue. Again, it works fine when traveling in a forward motion.
