I bought a new Prius PIP 2012 ten months ago. I park it in the Airport parking lot a day or two when I am out of town. And this is the 3rd time my car is completely discharged.
View 13 RepliesTwice I've come into the garage and (after getting over the shock of seeing a new PiP) heard a fairly faint buzz or hum seemingly coming from the car. At first I thought it was the fluorescents overheard, but after turning them off and walking around the Prius I believe it to be coming from the rear of the car. (Next time it happens I will go find my old stethoscope and better localize.) The car was off and not plugged into the mains. I got in and hit the power, and the sound quit.
View 15 RepliesYesterday when I went to start my week old PIP, the battery was drained. There was no power to start and no power to the dome lights etc. I got out the owners manual and on page 594 there were instructions to jump start which I did. I drove it to the dealer and they checked it out. They said the 12V battery state of charge was 50% after being jumped and driven for 30 minutes. They then charged it to a full state of charge. They couldn't find any other drain overnight.
I am trying to determine why this happened. The reason was not apparent. No interior lights were left on. There were no other electronics attached. We had driven the preceding two days in EV mode virtually exclusively. I don't recall if the ICE came on. The car sat unused for 36 hours. It had been plugged in to charge the traction battery and it charged via the timer without any apparent errors.
The service tech wondered if the battery had been fully charged prior to delivery. I know the traction battery had not been fully charged because I was anxious to take delivery. Could this be a consequence of driving in EV mode almost exclusively?
I went to drive to work today and found that my battery was drained. None of my interior lights were on and I'm 100% sure I turned the car off last night after I backed it into the garage. Last night I drove the car home and was mostly on EV, but drove the last 3-4 miles on ICE. I had the car charging overnight too. This morning, with the battery dead and the cable plugged in, it was making a click sound near the fuse box when I tried to start it.
The passenger seat's heater was on (I think) and I don't think any of the doors were ajar. The only door that could have been opened would be the driver's but I don't think it was half closed.
Have a 2010 Prius III (trim V), and a 2012 PIP. The 2010 has a fan that will circulate air when the car is parked. This feature is very useful especially if the car has been sitting in the sun on a hot day like today (and cracking the sunroof).
Got into the PIP today and it was like brick fired oven. Thought to myself maybe the fan was turned off, but unable to locate the button.
Do the outside air circulation fan exists for the PIP.
I had been running on EV then parked in the cold to wait for the wife. Turning on the heater started the ICE (of course). It charged the battery about 0.6% then stopped charging, ICE still running. So I switched to HV and it restarted charging about 0.3% and then stopped charging. So I switched back to EV for a few seconds than back to HV and the charging resumed another 0.3%. Once the coolant temperature reaches 130 degrees the ICE stops. Nice heat until the coolant gets down to 118 degrees and the ICE starts again. Back in EV and the battery is charging and the HV/EV switching continues to add more charge. Until time to leave I picked up about 5% SOC, kept warm. Not good for mpg but 5% SOC is nice.
View 19 RepliesLast night around 1:00, I was awakened by a noise I think was coming from my car parked below my window. It was plugged in at the time. I heard a loud, high pitched whine, followed by a couple of knocks or thumps, then a sound like R2D2 makes when he turns his head, then a couple more knocks, and another R2D2 noise. I think I may also have seen lights flashing around the the edges of my blackout blinds, but am not sure, since I had just been sound asleep.
View 4 RepliesBattery was fully charged when left it at night that in the morning the battery level would be less. This happened to a friend of mine twice so far.
The first time it happened she accidentally left the lights 'on' which supposed to turn off on their own after 30sec. But in the morning she's only left with 2 bars from fully charged. And a week later it happened again but without leaving the lights 'on', from almost full charge to 3 bars of battery in the morning.
Troubleshooting the not working A/C in my 1997 Ford E350 Motorhome Chassis.
1. Compressor clutch spins freely
2. Started vehicle and turned on A/C, clutch not engaging
3. Unplugged Compressor clutch plug, and engine would turn over but not start
4. Replugged, started engine (normal), and when I unplugged the compressor clutch plug, the engine immediately cut-out.
Is this normal? I was planning to check if I had 12v at the compressor plug. Did I miss something? It is almost as if the clutch is wired into the ignition circuit...
After my 25k service it seems the timer scheduler when the square button is pressed/held flashes at 7am. When i press the H button the hour advances to 12am then closes. I want to start the charge at 12am and finish at 5AM. The timer windows closes when i move the finish hour to 12am and then my regular clock hour changes. It used to be when i pressed/held the timer button the start time would show at 12 am and after setting it would go to the finish hour.

A couple of hours later went into the garage to drop a trash bag and heard a humming/whirling sound from the garage. Walked around the Prius and isolated it coming from the bottom rear of the car. Went and got key, turned the car on, then off again and the noise ceased. What that was? Fuel pump maybe? And why did this occur?
View 2 RepliesCan the 2014 2.5 cyl Camry be driven safely for a short distance (under 10 miles) with some of the transmission fluid drained?I recently bought my wife a new loaded Camry XLE to replace her 2003 LE. She decided to surprise me and change her own oil to prove a point to me that she could do it. Long story short, she drained out almost a quart (I measured it) of ATF before she realized it shouldn't look red and re-plugged it.
Now I need to take it in to get it topped off, because as far as I can tell there is no dipstick or fill point for the tranny. The nearest dealership is about 9 miles of West Virginia mountain roads away. Do I need a tow or can I drive it in? It is a brand new car and I don't want to risk hurting it.. but a tow is expensive. The car has 6,000 miles on it.
I had my A/C compressor unplugged over the winter, and now that I've plugged it back in, the A/C is not blowing cold. Is there some kind of programming reset that needs to be done?
View 18 Repliesrecently after an oil change from Toyota dealership, I notice a wire is unplugged behind the passenger’s side headlight! The headlight, the signal light and the high beam, everything works fine.
Is this wire supposed to be open for all 3rd Gen Prius? If yes, what is the purpose for this wire? Where does this connect too?
I am about to finish up my graduate studies here in Ohio, after which, my wife and I will be headed back to California. We are in desperate need of a second car, but have decided to wait until we move to get one. My wonderful in laws have said that they are willing to split the cost of a new car with us. With that said, we have already decided that we want to get a Prius, but we can't decide which one. We both really like the V. We love how roomy the car is. This is very important to us because we are going to start a family soon. However, we also like the regular Prius and the PiP. I really like the PiP but am a little concerned about the new batteries, and I am not sure that I want to pay the early adapter premium assuming one is even available. But, only paying half for a PiP sounds rather tempting. Considering all that I just said, if you were in my shoes what car would you get and why?

View 2 RepliesNew to the Prius family. Bought a 2014 PIP advanced last week strictly as an economic play. Am noob when it comes to driving techniques, currently average 72 mpg on 90 mi. trips with one charge, so doing better than I expected. I did read up on the Pulse and Glide techniques for the standard Prius and the 'verification' of the glide portion for those is the lack of any power arrows emanating from either the ICS , MG2 or battery on the MID. I have been unable to replicate this on the PIP. In other words, when I am 'gliding' on my PIP, the ICS is off but there always seems to be a green charge indicator flowing back to the batteries from the front wheels.
Keep in mind, my foot is on the accelerator slightly, there is no 'white' bar protruding into the CHG area or the ECO area and I know I am 'gliding/coasting' as no matter how long I am in this sweet spot, even though the charge arrows are active, I DO NOT top up the battery at all, which says to me the car is indeed 'gliding' without the regenerative brakes or ICS in play and it certainly FEELS like I'm gliding as with over-inflated tires (44/42) the PIP seemingly coasts forever. I'm thinking this is a different behavior from a standard Prius in this 'glide' sweet spot, as, at least on my PIP, I can never get the MID to blank out in terms of energy flow. I.E. have you managed a 'pulse and glide' in a PIP getting the all energy flow arrows to disappear .
I am thinking of upgrading to a pip. I work in my car and was wondering if I plug it in can I still have the a/c running while it is plugged in or not? i read somewhere that if you turn the car into ready mode the systems won't allow it.

View 11 RepliesNew car. I think I could toggle between EV (green light) and HV (red light). Now instead of HV the car does switch between EV and EV/ECO. Am I doing something wrong. I want to avoid a trip to the dealer.
View 4 RepliesWhen I get in to go somewhere in the morning sometimes the EV sign in the car is lit up and sometimes it is just the silhouette of the car on the right side. I know I am driving in Ev and it says Ev in the light on the left side but why the difference. Am I making any sense??
