Prius Plug-in 2012-15 :: Charging Timer Permanent Settings?
May 12, 2012
First week with my new Advanced and I love it. Can't wait until I get plates and my Green HOV sticker. I use the car for my daily commute and have a very regular schedule. Is there any way to make a permanent setting of the charge start time? It's a bit of a pain to have to set it every time I get home. I have RTFM but haven't found any way to do this?

I received a message similar to this when I started my car up this morning. I am paraphrasing because I don't remember the exact wording. I had set the timer to charge from 4am-7am and entered my car at 7am to this message and 0 charge. Did I just plug it in correctly or what does this mean? I've never had an issue until today.

After my 25k service it seems the timer scheduler when the square button is pressed/held flashes at 7am. When i press the H button the hour advances to 12am then closes. I want to start the charge at 12am and finish at 5AM. The timer windows closes when i move the finish hour to 12am and then my regular clock hour changes. It used to be when i pressed/held the timer button the start time would show at 12 am and after setting it would go to the finish hour.

Every day for the last four years the timer on the air filter drives me crazy. It insists on switching from filter to outside air after three minutes, which sucks back in all the Diesel fumes and dust I just finished filtering. I would very much like to disable the timer. I'm not afraid of cutting wires.

The timer built into the Prius needs to be pressed each time a delay is needed ? Is this correct ?

Prius 2013. After I power off the car with the Power button there appears to be a little bit of time during which I can push the window buttons and get the windows to close. Maybe five or ten seconds. If after that short period I notice that the windows are open I have to push the Power button twice to get to a state where to use the window buttons to close the windows. Is there any way to extend that time to a longer setting?

I am thinking of upgrading to a pip. I work in my car and was wondering if I plug it in can I still have the a/c running while it is plugged in or not? i read somewhere that if you turn the car into ready mode the systems won't allow it.

I set my charging time with the buttons in the car (dash) to charge from midnight to 3am. I plug in the car and the car will not charge until midnight. Perfect. I drive it. Then the next night I go to plug in the car and it starts charging right away.

How to connect the EVSE without charging? I'm planning to be away for a couple of days and I want to leave it plugged in but keeping the battery empty. Then I want to start the charging remotely so that when I get back, I can immediately drive off with a full charge. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out a way to connect the EVSE w/o charging.

Had my Prius since Saturday. First charge on Sunday. Charged fully, when turning it on saw the Charge result prompt. But I charged it Monday, saw the orange light, went out 3 hours later, light was off, unplugged it, blah blah.
But when I went out and drove it today, it didn't have the charge result indicator (actually, I wasn't looking) but I know it wasn't charged cuz it didn't go into EV mode.

I installed my OGS shifter yesterday and noticed that when I plug in the car the OGS shifter stays on while the car is charging. Once charging is complete it will turn off.

From my understanding, there are 3 batteries in the PIP. 2 of them are for EV mode, and 1 is for Hybrid mode. they are all hooked up together and also the electric motor when it is fully charged. when the first pack (ev pack) get's depleted, it will disconnect via relays from the remaining 2 packs. then when the second pack is depleted (second EV pack) it will discontinue from the last remaining pack. below is a small simple diagram of what it looks like:
Fully charged: (EV1)-----(EV2)-----(HYBRID)-----[motor]
1st pack depleted. still in EV mode: (EV1)---x---(EV2)-----(HYBRID)-----[motor]
both EV packs depleted and in HYBRID mode: (EV1)---x---(EV2)---x---(HYBRID)----[motor]
(x = disconnected)

My wife plugged in to the EV charging station at work for the first time today. She was supposed to receive an email when the charge finished but wasn't notified because there was a still a trickle charge being registered by the EV station even though the battery was full.

I just learned that the charging port is in the right rear, compared to the Prototype with the port in the left front. Seems to me that about 50% of the time, the driver will get in the car and drive off with the car still plugged in because they won't see the cable when getting in. Or at best, you will get in the car, and then have to get out again to unplug it. What am I missing?

Like most of PIPPOS (plug in Prius pre orderers) I have been planning this install for a while. I am glad it was so simple and came in under budget.
Charging transformer attached to wall with velcro command strips so can be removed if needed. Next to that (closest to car plug) is a plastic garden hose hanger I picked up at lowest.
I am perfectly pleased with how quick and easy this install was and how perfectly it works for the car.

My wife and I have 2013 PIP (His and Hers) and we compete for highest EV miles. Her car has had consistently recharged with 14- 15 estimated EV miles. This morning she called me and said as she left the garage she noticed that EV miles were 18.4. I thought wow wish mine did that. We just finished charging hers again and I went out to verify and I was blown away when I saw 20.9 EV miles. This can't be correct, what could be happening?

I have a 2012 Prius plug in. Initially when fully charged, the recorded range was 12.2 miles. The car has now 40,000 miles. When it hit 25,000 miles , the fully charged battery went from 12.2 to 11.5, 11.0, 10.5 and finally down to 9.5. It makes no sense. My driving pattern has remained the same. No AC or heating use different than before. I took the car several times and I was told that there was nothing wrong. I try charging the car at a different place than my house ( I have a educated outlet ) and I obtained the same results.

A good thing about Prius PHEV conversions in general is that they mostly don't change the appearance of the car, except for an outlet on the bumper and a switch on the dash.
You can't tell when it's charging and when it's done, without opening the bottom hatch (which may require unloading cargo). The "low battery" indicator can't be seen in daylight.
The charger has a light that turns red when charging and green when charged (or when the battery pack is disconnected). My preference was to move this light to the power connector on the bumper, but this was not practical. Instead, I found that it was very easy to get access to the reverse light in the tail light assembly, without even removing the cover.

I just bought a 2012 Prius c. There are oftentimes when I don't drive my car for a few days. When this happens, I have heard that the car might not start, especially in the winter. Is this true?
