I can't figure out what my HV range is once the gas light starts flashing. The first time it came on, I filled up pretty quickly but the car only took 8 gallons. I know the tank holds 10.6. There has to be a range meter somewhere that I'm missing so I'm not running straight to the gas station as soon as the light starts flashing.
View 19 RepliesObviously it seems like range is holding up really well for most of us. But say the theoretical happens and range starts going way down over the next 3-6 years. At what point would you say, for you personally, would it become less likely you would plug in very often, if at all?
For me, in my current life and distances I drive, it would take going down to about 6 miles of range to plug in a lot less. If I got down to 3 or 4, I might not plug in at all.
Again, this is all just theoretical. Hopefully our range never goes that low.

View 19 RepliesI got the EV range 13.3 miles after full charge (110V) at the first 3 weeks. From this Tuesday ( it was quite warm here), I noticed that the EV range 13.1 miles after full charge (110V). Wednesday and today was same: 13.1 miles.
View 19 RepliesI picked up our Prius plug in on Thursday evening, fully charged from the dealership in Oakland. We drove it home, about 4 miles, in EV mode and then plugged it in for the night. In the morning the car was fully charged. At 8:00 a.m. I drove the Prius up hill about 1.5 miles in EV mode to our car pool pick up point and left it parked on the street for the day. Car was parked on up hill slope. I believe all lights were off. When I got back at 5:30 p.m. to drive it home the battery was apparently discharged and there was no charge or EV range when I selected EV mode. I drove home on ICE in hybrid mode.

View 3 RepliesOn occasion - not frequently - I'll notice the gasoline engine kicking in when I'm in ECO/EV mode with plenty of EV battery left. Today it happened on a relatively flat street, going maybe 30 mph, without the a/c or anything else on, and about 7 miles left on the EV battery indicator. In less than 30 seconds it went back to pure EV and the gasoline engine never kicked in again.

View 8 RepliesMy A/C light starts flashing after about 30 minutes of use. The A/C is still cold while it's running, but it warms up when the light starts blinking.
At this point I'm planning on replacing the clutch assembly. How far apart do I need to take the car so I can reach the clutch? Is there something else I can test to see if the compressor is on its last legs, before I put money into the clutch?
New car. I think I could toggle between EV (green light) and HV (red light). Now instead of HV the car does switch between EV and EV/ECO. Am I doing something wrong. I want to avoid a trip to the dealer.

View 11 RepliesI ran about 2 miles on EV then switched to HV 1/2 mile before getting on the freeway. After about 3miles red temp light came on Outside air temp was about 65. I was on a 2 mile long single lane transition so I was unable to get off the freeway. I slowed down to about 60mph from 70mph the light went off. The light was on for about 2min.
I got off the freeway and opened the hood. The coolant had over flowed puking coolant all over my clean engine. I was able to run EV to dealer to check. My guess was a stuck thermostat! Dealer just called me and after calling manufacture to discuss the the error codes and my symptoms, there best guess was a stuck thermostat.
My son got this for his '05 Prius, and I plugged it into my PiP for awhile. I am learning to brake more slowly and accelerate more gradually, but the mileage is obviously way off. That seems to be about all it's good for, unless a check engine light comes on.

View 19 RepliesI'm still enjoying my 2012 pip but I came across a couple of issues.
The daytime running lights (DRL) were not working so I took it to Toyota to check it out. I also contacted the previous owner who thought that they working. Toyota performed their 101 multi point inspection and discovered that the DRL was disabled at one point and they had to enabled it from the ecu. I found that interesting but they are now working and they look great.
I plug it into the outlet the connect to the car. The charge indicator lights up but 15 seconds later you can hear the charger click off. The light on the charger stays amber and not red. I've reset the charging unit and it is happening both at the outlets at work and at home.
