The dealer tells me he hears this problem all day long and there is nothing he can do about it.

View 3 RepliesI bought a used 2006 Prius Package 7 from an estate sale with only 37k miles not too long ago. The car was serviced regularly and looks brand new. It now has 39k miles and is due for an oil change in a week or so.
I have been having some problems with the reverse camera yesterday and today. I was so happy with the Prius until this issue.
Yesterday morning, when going in reverse, I saw a black screen with some faint outlines of the objects behind me with a moving vertical ribbon bar moving left to right. After turning the car on and off a few times and driving about 15 miles to work, it started working again!
It was great... until tonight. After accidentally overfilling the car at the pump (not going to that station again), the camera had an issue again. Same thing. Drove 15 miles home and turned the car on/off a few times...along with checking reverse mode a few times along the drive while at stop lights...and it still didn't work.
Is there any way I could check to see if the connection is loose? I've seen threads for modding the Prius and all, but I honestly just want the car to function as normal. Any easy way to access camera connection? Would like to diagnose if it is the camera or a connector.
I'm a new SoCal resident, so I don't know any of the cheap maintenance shops yet, but I figured if it's simple...I may just do it myself! Also, I live close to the beach. Would that make a difference on my Prius? My car just gets more dirty with dust/sand during some periods.
I don't think the overfilled gas tank correlates with the reverse camera. But needless to say, I have had better days with my "new" Prius. Been getting 45mpg steadily
For a project I started, I need to remove the plastic cover from the inside of the hatch. I think many people did that to install a rear view camera. Looking for pictures, simple instructions set, or a reference to a repair manual that would clearly explain how to do that.

Having just taken delivery of a pip I am wondering if there is any way to turn on the rear view camera when you are moving forward? It would actually provide better vision over the rear view mirror.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2003 Toyota Prius with ~250,000 miles. Yesterday I was driving and the vehicle started to "stutter" and the warning lights came on. My ScanGauge indicated code P3125. I drove normally for 2-3 miles and parked for a bit. When I returned, I was able to start up and drive home with no problems (about 20 miles of highway and stop & go traffic), and drove most of this morning, but around noon it happened again and this time the vehicle would hardly move at all. It had no reverse and I had to push it out of the parking spot. I managed to limp home and park it.
View 11 RepliesI got in, stepped on the brake pedal and press the power button. Then the Prius ICE started, it started clanging and violently shaking the entire car. The clanging was sounded like metal on metal or something, it was loud and it was like the engine was seizing up. I stepped outside and the whole front end was buckling up and down. From my perspective, it seemed like the car wanted to lurch forward if I didn't have the parking brake engaged. I had Park engaged and also the parking brake on. I thought it would go away but it persisted. I turned off the car and immediately restarted. When the ICE started the 2nd time it felt a bit rough but finally the clanging noise went away. I didn't have time to look on my scanguage for any codes during the event. Did this cause any permanent damage?

(while I'm sitting in the passenger seat of course). Better yet - is there a way to tap into the backup cam so I can record directly from that while driving forward? Is there a 'finger dance' I can do to allow this and override the fact that it automatically shuts off while in Drive? I have a 2007 (2nd gen Prius)...
View 7 Replies'88 K1500 350 with the Holley 670cfm TBI. Last year this truck started intermittently running rich to the point of stalling while at idle. I replaced the coolant temperature sensor and it ran fine, for a while. After a few months the same issue returned during cold weather but seemed to resolve this spring when things turned warm. Now the engine is really running rich all the time. I checked the CTS and got 2400 Ohms cold and 270 Ohms hot which isn't far form what I found as to be in spec. If I disconnect the CTS the truck runs better (idles up some) and does not appear to be running as rich but still not right. There are no codes in the computer and the O2 sensor was also replaced not that long ago.

I have a floor jack and want to raise both rear or front wheels for a quick snow tire changeover but I have not been able to locate a good jack point.
So I looked under my car to see how much clearance I have as I am going lower it with VWR springs and noticed that my CTS catback hangs downs at one point by the left rear control arm a lot. Like really bad. I've already spoke to someone who is bogged and had to have an exhaust shop fabricate a new piece as he scraped that piece a lot.
Had I known I wouldn't buy this carp. Talk about cutting corners. It literally hangs down a foot under the car.
In my 6 day old Golf TSI, I'm noticing the rearview camera is quite noisy when it deploys and retracts. I don't recall how it sounded during test drives, but I'm surprised I can hear it at all, let alone as loudly as it seems.
Likely normal, but thought I'd post this up to see what others are experiencing. Might drop by the dealership and check another one out for comparison.
Picked up a mk6 tdi a couple weeks ago (my first vw), and yesterday my rear view camera started acting up. And by acting up I mean, the screen only displays black, and the camera is stuck open, protruding under the badge and will not close. I've checked to make sure everything is still plugged in, and it is. I'm not exactly sure what to try next?

View 6 RepliesI've noticed that about every other time I put my SFS in reverse, the rear camera appears with no guidelines only to flash off after a few seconds and then come back on with the guidelines. Other times, it comes up right away with the guides.
What's causing this and is there any sort of fix for it?
How to remove the rear side interior trim? I want to install a rear view camera. I need to pull the trim to run the wiring along the left side to the floor and to the front of the car.
My understanding is I need to get access to the left rear side of the hatch, then underneath the carpet along the rear door trim, etc. I've seen some posts on the 2 door, but there appear to be differences between that and the 4 door.
My driver side rear strut/shock has started leaking recently (I've attached a pic). Its counterpart on the rear passenger side is bone dry. My Prius is a 2010 with 78,000 miles, mostly city driving.
View 19 RepliesOur 2010 Prius has about 57K miles on it (mostly highway and rural commuting). The rear brakes just started to make some noise the other day at low speeds. It sounds like a light metallic squeal, similar to a brake pad wear indicator. It only occurs at low speeds and in reverse. Last time I checked the pads, they had lots of life, but that was in the spring.
I'd like to take apart the brakes to service them, but I don't know if this is a DIYer job on a Pruis. I have tons of experience on auto repairs, and have done hundreds of brake jobs (I also perform auto restoration as a hobby and have done almost every type of mechanical work on a car). So I am not really worried about my skill, but I am worried about knowing the proper procedure to do the repairs on a Pruis.
The tail light that is spliced into for the RVC flickers when the car is in reverse. I am thinking it is due to a voltage drop because of the camera pulling power.
