I just bought a 2010 Prius II and was wondering what size wheels will fit on it. What is the minimum offset I can go with a 17x8 without having the tire scrape the fender when I turn the wheel all the way to make u-turns?
View 2 RepliesI am sure I read somewhere that the 2014 advanced and/or advanced tech had larger wheels but am unable to confirm that now. Whenever I switch to EV mode after turning on the vehicle, it starts the ICE. Is this normal? If so, why would it do that?
View 8 RepliesHow the Prius calculates mpg based on miles driven then I need to create a formula that allows us to determine mpg when you change tire size.
We know the GenIII speedo reads between 1-2mph too fast but the ECU will continue to read exactly 2mph too fast despite tire size changes as verified by Scangauge and Torque app. So what is your mpg based on? Readings from the odometer, speedometer or something else?
If you change tire size then your miles driven is going to be altered. It's either going to be more accurate or less accurate depending on how this information is derived. If the miles driven is altered then so will be your mpg reading.
My front right or left or both for that matter, (its hard to pinpoint the noise while driving) makes a clinking noise when I hit a good size bump. No noise at all on smaller ones?
View 2 RepliesMy original Yokohama avid s33 is about ready to be changed. It now have over 42k on them. I think I can still stretch it before the winter starts. My OEM size are 195/65/15 and I'm thinking of getting the 205/65/15. According to Tire Dimensions Made Simple - Discount Tire my tire rotation will decrease by over 16 revs per mile. I know the side wall is going to be about a quarter an inch higher about an inch and a half bigger in circumference And the car is going to sit half an inch higher and a wider Width.
Looking for observation/s pertaining to performance, mpg, handling, traction, etc.
2010 avalon, 67k km. I took the vehicle to dealership and they did four wheel alignment. shocks/struts and lca bushings all in great shape.
vehicle no longer pulls as much to left or right when cruising on highway as much but problem is still there. Road is arrow straight yet I need to turn the wheel slightly to the left or right to keep it going straight. otherwise, it pulls to the side once i let go.
Had my 2010 Prius in for oil change (at Ford) and they noticed slight amount of seepage on one of the wheels. unfortunately, i did not pick up the car until several hours after the service dept closed so still waiting to get some details but wondering
View 3 RepliesLast week I switched my wheels and tires out from OEM 15 x 6 wheels with 195/55R15 Good Year Fuel Max tires to 16 x 7 Drag DR9 wheels (16.55 lbs.) with 205/50R16 Good Year Fuel Max tires. ( I wanted a different look) At first I didn't notice any change in mpg's, but that soon changed. The temps went down into the 20's for lows and 30's for highs. I went from 48 - 50 mpg to 41 -43 mpg in just a few days. I assumed that the drop was due to the cold weather. This morning I decided to check the tire pressure in the new tires. 32 psi all the way around. I asked the guys that installed the tires to fill them up to 44 front, 42 rear. I guess that never happened. Anyway, I looked on the sidewall of the tire to check max pressure and I was shocked (51 psi). I ran 44 front, 42 front on my old set, because that was what I was advised to do.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2011 Prius. I put 15" aftermarket summer wheels on it and a vibration appeared The wheels and tires have been rebalanced many times. Wheel alignment has been done, wheels replaced, tires replaced but the vibration is still there. I am now back to the OEM and the vibration is still there.
View 12 RepliesYesterday when I jacked up my car to switch to winter tires I hear this clicking sound, every stroke I turned the jack it will make that sound and it continues until my wheel is off the ground then it will stop. It only came from the rear 2 wheels and it happened when I jacked up the front and the back (more noticeable when jacking up the back).
I continue anyway, but today when I am driving down a parking lot (down hill turning) I hear this bumping sound from the back (sounds like bouncing basketball), it will go away if I stop but continues once I start driving again. I stop the car on flat ground and examined the tires and found nothing odd. Then when I restart the car the sound went away.
Looking at a set of 19" from the Gen 3... 19x7.5 +35 114.3PCD.
Currently I've got the 18" from the Gen 2.. which is 17x7 +35 114.3PCD.
Do you reckon it'll clear.. I'm guessing it'll be okay, how about caliper clearance?
Just exploring on my touch screen, while under Setup and then under Vehicle you have the DRL option of {on or off }. But I don't see any difference with I select either one. Even if I switch on my DRL or headlights I see no change when I select on or off. What does it change?? I'm also not finding an answer in the owners manual. On my headlight switch I have these options... Off - DRL - Parking lights - Head lights> All my other Prius friends have an auto headlight that I somehow missed out on ....
View 7 RepliesI've noticed that if I press the EV button when stopped at a stop sign or red light, I can get the vehicle moving up to 25 MPH with the battery. This must save fuel. But I wonder if I am doing something that causes problems with the battery, motor, or other systems.

View 19 RepliesI got this message today, twice as I was pulling out of the driveway but it went away both times. After the 1st I stopped and pulled the key out of my purse. It came back on a 3rd time and right as I was trying to determine if it was significant enough to pullover when the hood flew up and hit the windshield. The hood was closed and there were no other messages.
View 6 RepliesMy 5 month old 2011 Prius Two ran out of windshield wiper fluid yesterday. This was somewhat surprising, since I haven't used the cleaner that much - and I would assume that the dealer filled it up when I bought the car. So I added some more (even used the "windshield wiper dipstick" to make sure that I didn't overfill). I also used a funnel, so no fluid spilled anywhere. I then turned the car on, and made sure that the front and rear wiper/cleaners worked - everything was fine.
But when I got out of the car, I noticed a small amount of liquid on the ground, near the front passenger wheel. I saw small amounts of liquid dripping off the car. So I called my dealer, said I thought the plastic wiper cleaner container had a leak, and they said bring the car in. When I got to the dealer, the attendant said: "Is it the front right of the car?" (i.e. where the liquid was coming out, I hadn't even mentioned where I had seen the leak). I said yes.
He then asked me to run my front wipers with the cleaner coming out for about 15 seconds (longer than one would usually do that). I then got out the car, and he showed me lots of liquid that "appeared" to be leaking out the container; however, the attendant said that was just runoff of the excess cleaner. He said if there is extra cleaner it gets diverted mostly to the front right, and a little to the front left. He said he had a 2010 Pruis, and it does the same thing. He said if you're driving on the highway, you'd obviously never noticed it. So you only see it when you use the wiper/cleaners when parked (not usually the case). I mentioned that I had never noticed this in my previous cars (all Saturns). He said he thought the Saturn might have diverted the fluid more towards the middle underneath. But since the Saturn actually required a key to turn on, I don't recall ever testing the wiper/cleaners, after refilling with more fluid (it's just that it's so easy to turn on a Prius...
I have been driving 2013 model for five months. I noticed that whenever any front wheel rolls over cat-eye on the road and any sudden small bump then it generates noticeable clicking sound. I went to the dealer and they said it is normal and comes with all such cars.
View 19 RepliesI tried to reset my TPMS light using the procedure in the owner's manual after installing my snow tires on the OEM wheels. Now it looks like there is no effects as the lights will just keep blinking even if i am holding the button down. Does this mean the tire shop broke one of my sensor during the install?
View 5 RepliesThis evening, long after sundown, I found myself stuck on an unmoving expressway with no sign of traffic starting up again (the radio reported a vehicle fire ahead, all lanes blocked). Time dragged on, and I started worrying about the possibility of the headlights draining the 12V battery , assuming that they do indeed run off the 12V battery. In a conventional car this wouldn't have been a problem because the idling engine would have maintained enough battery charge, but of course here the ICE wasn't running. So I turned off the power button to shut down the lights (it's a Canadian car, so there's no way of turning off the headlights with the power button on). That was safe in this particular situation because there were plenty of stopped vehicles behind me. It definitely would not have been safe if mine had been the last vehicle in the lineup.

I grab the door and the signal flashes twice indicating unlocked, I do not like announcing to my neighbours every time I unlocked my car. My dealership tells me they do not know how? I was hoping there is a series of buttons to press or something like that. I have a 2012 base model (one).
View 1 RepliesI have a 2013 Prius with 15k miles, and this happened to me recently for the first time:
- Drove 40 miles
- 24 hours of inactivity
- Drove a very short distance, maybe for 60 seconds, just enough for the ICE to start
- 48 hours inactivity
- Start car, ICE starts, but sputters and sounds like an old, sick lawnmower, and dies after 3-4 seconds. The "check hybrid system" warning is displayed, and I read a P3191 DTC
- Turn off car, repeat three more times, and by the third time, the warning lights went away, and the ICE runs fine again now.
I took the car to a Toyota dealer, and they told me that they didn't see any problems. A friend of mine had the exact same problem with a 2012 Prius, after the same scenario (3 days inactivity with a 60 second trip in the middle of the inactive period).
