Prius (Gen 3) :: TPMS Stop Transmitting When Wheels Are Not In Motion
Oct 1, 2012
Does the Prius' TPMS employ a sleep mode to conserve battery? I.e., stop transmitting when the wheels are not in motion.

View 11 RepliesHow to replace TPMS in Prius Wheels? We have a 2007 Touring Prius with the 16" wheels.
View 2 RepliesI switched all 4 wheels with a totaled Prius 2 years ago. I didn't know that the TPMS is registered with the car so my TPMS hasn't been working since then (I've been putting this off for a while). I see that many tire shops offer TPMS resetting.
View 4 RepliesI tried to reset my TPMS light using the procedure in the owner's manual after installing my snow tires on the OEM wheels. Now it looks like there is no effects as the lights will just keep blinking even if i am holding the button down. Does this mean the tire shop broke one of my sensor during the install?
View 5 RepliesI have a 1999 Chevy Geo Prizm a.k.a. Toyota Corolla. I am new to car ownership and don't know much about maintenance yet.
Recently, the back right wheel has started making a soft "wumm wumm wumm" noise when the car is in motion. The faster I drive, the more the noise speeds up, so it seems like something is coming loose or out of alignment. I've driven over a fair number of potholes in the last couple of months, and while I don't remember any particularly gnarly ones, I imagine that's what has caused the problem.
Any guesses as to what might be going wrong, how dire it is, and what I should expect to hear from the mechanic when I take it in?
Can I use my original TPMS in my new wheels? I currently have 17' denvers and will be buying 18' wheels can I transfer my TPMS to my new wheels? Do I need to buy something?
View 8 RepliesI have a luxury model gs and thinking about going with 19 f sport. The 19 inch f sport wheels does not have the tpms with the sale. My question is, can I use the tpms that are on my car? Or do I have to purchase a new set?
View 9 RepliesI own a 2012 Camry and i just upgraded from the 17 inch to the 18 inch sport wheels. Do the tmps sensors have to be recalibrated because i get no readings. I thought the car should pick up on its own and show me tire pressure. The wheels came from a 2013 Camry.
View 6 RepliesJust curious if we can change selections for driving mode when a car is in motion or it has to stop to switch between them?
View 8 Repliesi want to upgrade my wife's Tiguan. She's complained that it feels sluggish especially when starting from a full stop. A bit of a delay when she steps on the gas. Just wanted to get people's thoughts on going stage 1 vs right to stage 2. And if stage 2 do you reccommend anything more than just the diownpipe and the tune?
View 15 RepliesTried to do some searching regarding this and info was pretty thin. When I'm up at highway speeds there is an obnoxious howl transmitting through the steering wheel. On occasion it will go away but it's generally there. There is some vibration coming through and it's driving me absolutely nuts - it almost makes the car feel overweight and sluggish, but that may just be in my head.
I had 4 new tires put on and an alignment done around 3 weeks ago, so it shouldn't be related to that. I was told that my right rear Aristo has a slight bend in it, but would that cause such a harsh reaction? I was thinking wheel bearings but I really don't know how to check for that.
I have a 2013 Prius v and wanted to know how to disable to the Nav lock while the car is in motion. I want to make it so that my passengers could use it while I am driving.
View 3 RepliesI noticed as soon as the c is in motion the bluetooth menu is not accessible. I'm sure this is a safety measure, but this has become a huge inconvenience for us. A lot of the times my wife needs to switch from iPod to phone during the trip.
View 14 RepliesWas driving today on the highway at about 50mph and suddenly noted jerky motion. Kept the right foot steady, but it seemed like extra power was being delivered and then cut off every few seconds. The MPH monitor was jumping all over the place with the jerking motions, as was the HSI power scale indicator. The jerking was not terrible, but noticeable.
Got home safe, no issues otherwise. Only noted while cruising on the highway. No issues driving in the city.
I am in the midwest and the temp yesterday was -11F and today about 0F. Did not a problem yesterday, but then again was not able to drive at 50mph on the highway due to snow until today.
First, I wish the car could use the passenger air bag sensor to know their is a passenger and allow nav system to have full function.
View 11 RepliesI am on my 3rd set of wiper blades trying to get rid of the skipping motion. I did not notice this problem with original. I bought one set at Autozone that skipped, went back and bought an expensive pair of blades, they skipped.
I bought the best wipers t, they skipped.
I just went to the dealer and got a pair of blades, they skip just as bad as all the others I've tried.
I have tried cleaning the windshield, This last time I used clay bar on the windshield but that made it worst. It would skip after each swipe after I used clay bar.
The last thing I done was use some waterless wash on windshield that has it temporally stopped skipping. The wipers run smooth so there is not a problem with any jerking or motion or anything like that.
I have 115K on 2011 Prius, not had a minute trouble out of it except for this skipping. I also have about 65K mile on this set of Michelin Energy saver A/S tires, they will go another 10K. I'm averaging 51 mpg Summer and Winter.
I have a 2002 Accent 1.6 with 187000 km on it. I started noticing over the last month that when I shift into second gear the car seems to stop powering the wheels temporarily. Once the RPM's pick up (around 2200) the problem goes away. This seems to only happen when I originally shift into second and the RPM's are lower. If I accelerate slowly then the lag usually won't happen, but if I push down more on the gas then you can really notice the lag.
The spark plugs only have 15000 km on them, air filter is new, just replaced the fuel filter, oil was just changed (synthetic) as well as the filter, and I just recently cleaned out the throttle body. I have also seemed to notice a loss of overall power since at highway speeds since this problem started. The engine doesn't lag when I'm in 4th or 5th gear on the highway, but it seems to have less power when I'm accelerating on the highway.
On the expressway, I was driving my 2013 Subaru Impreza about 50 mph and had occasion to make a sudden stop. There were no crashes, and traffic started up again immediately - except for me! There I was, in the left lane, and when I depressed the gas pedal the car stayed put. I could hear the engine rev, but the wheels didn't turn. I had to turn the car off and start it again before I could move forward. What could be going on?
View 8 RepliesAm I the only one who thinks the tire pressure monitoring system is a silly feature? Is there any way to delete this and stop the light from coming up on the dash? I want to do new wheels and tires on my 2008 f250 and I don't want to deal with the tpms. Can it be tuned out from the computer?
View 14 RepliesI own a 2010 Jeep Liberty and this is my first RWD vehicle (when set in the normal 2WD mode of course). I notice that whenever I accelerate from a stop, on even a slightly wet road, the rear wheels spin and I get the traction light on my dashboard. I then need to take my foot of the gas and accelerate ohhhh soooo slowly. I've never had this kind of wheel spin on my previous AWD or FWD vehicles. Is this a known "feature" or RWD vehicles? Or maybe my one year old tires are inadequate? With my Liberty I could try switching to 4WD LOCK mode before attempting the acceleration to see if this works.
View 19 Replies1 year ago bought a 2003 Ford Ranger 5-speed manual. For last two months I occasionally get a loud clang from the rear, with short locking of rear wheels and sudden lunge when accelerating from stop. I can also get occasional clang when cruising down city streets in fourth gear. Tonight when accelerating from stop wheels locked and no sudden kick in and lunge forward. Finally got truck to go and crawled home. I've taken the truck into my mechanic twice, but of course it performs perfectly normal when they drive it. And no, it isn't just the way I drive. It's an occasional problem but getting more serious.
