My 2010 with 110k is now making a single yet audible "click" sound when I accelerate off of the line. It makes the same exact sound each time I press the brake pedal at speed. Just one click, not a continuous clicking. What's wrong??
View 5 RepliesWe have a new 2015 Prius with 6k on it and we are noticing one solid brief single click when the brake pedal is pressed and/or released. It doesn't happen every time (just some of the time) but it is only noticeable at slow speeds.
View 19 RepliesI've been noticing this one single "metallic" click sound a few months ago, it happens whenever I turn the steering wheel a little over 90 degrees.
The steering intermediate shaft recall has been done summer of last year. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this sound I'm hearing.

If you watch this video, you need to turn it up really loud to hear the faint click sound every time I turn the steering wheel past 90 degrees.
2012 f250 SC xl 6.2 - Is it normal to hear a single clunk sound on occasion when accelerating from a stop sign? Doesn't happen all the time mind you and I don't ever remember hearing it in the past.
Now just today, while backing up my driveway, as soon as I started the reverse motion, I heard the same clunk. Sounds like metal to metal and comes from the rear of the truck.
Only 7000 miles on her and I treat her like a baby...anything I should be concerned with?
I recently crossed 21 K miles in my Saturn. The brakes make a squeaky sound every time I press them. Is this a sign that the brakes need to be replaced?
View 5 RepliesGen II Prius at 175k miles is making a new clicking sound. One solid brief single click when the brake pedal is pressed. It doesn't happen every time (about half the time?) but can be heard the loudest at approx. 10-20 mph (possibly because road/wind noise is at a minimum at this speed). The work below was done at my local independent hybrid mechanic at 151k miles but since then I have only done oil/filter changes and checked oil levels, which have looked good.
Turn rotors, pack front bearings and replace pads, gold brake pads, rear brake service, performed induction service, cleaned throttle body, added tank injector additive, 3in1 induction kit, transmission service kit, transmission fluid, transmission service package, performed coolant serviced, drained and refilled coolant system, flushed out contaminants, refilled reservoir, coolant service, inspection, replaced drive belt, drive belt.
Ive got a 2011 Sonata GLS with 111k miles. I purchased the car new. For the past several months the brakes make a crunch or creaking sound when the pedal is being pressed OR released. The funny thing is it only happens when driving forward. When I apply the brakes while reversing, the brakes are silent. I did a pad slap at 68k and have taken everything apart, cleaned and re-lubed to no avail. The sound can be heard at the front wheels when someone else works the pedal while the car is parked. Pads have about 50% thickness. Pads? Calipers, master cylinder?
View 27 RepliesI have been experiencing a slight issue with my 07 Sonata V6 lately. When I am accelerating, most commonly when already at speed around 80 to 90 km/h, I would hear this 2-3 ticks / clicks when I press lightly or moderately on the accelerator pedal. The car would accelerate fine without any further noises. When I release the pedal, the car slows down a bit, and I press on the pedal again, then the same sound re-appears.

View 19 RepliesI have Toyota Prius 2006 with about 58k miles. For the last 12-16 months I encounter the following problem: when I press brakes, I hear knocking noise. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does it only happens when I press the brakes. Once I brought my car to a Toyota dealer and waited for an hour until my car was taken for a service. Mechanic found no noise. I tried to produce this noise but my car didn't want to cooperate. I don't see any messages on a display screen. It happens with power on/off and pressed brakes. What the knock is and how to get rid of it?
View 2 RepliesLast year I had a bad accident and my front passenger side tire completely ripped off. State Farm fixed it and all was fine. But About 2 months ago I've been hearing this single click on the right front when I was turning right and on the left front when I was turning left. Took the car to different dealerships, one barely looked at it and tried to charge me $300 for jacking up the car and tightening 10 bolts, the other said that my axle is cracked and leaking and recommended replacing my strut mount and sway bar links. So after those were done I drove it home and on the way back I heard the same noise but somewhere underneath my seat a couple of times when I accelerate and decelerate. The dealer took my car away for a week and a half to figure this whole thing out with state farm and forced me to pay for part of the rental car.
View 5 RepliesMy click sound is inconsistent, but typically, it's when I make a hard right or left turn. This being said, there are times I've was making a slow turn and my car still made the click noise. The turn can be a small one while in the lane for the off ramp of the freeway or a sharper turn around the corner. My impression is that when there is more force towards one side of the car, my steering wheel shaft is clicking. I also notice there's a click sound when I turn into a dip like when I drive out of a driveway onto a street that's lower than the driveway. The sound is also typically paired with moderate braking and turning. Someone who was in the car and heard the click and mentioned that it might happen when I make a sudden turn.
The single click is coming from the exterior of my car (I can hear it clearly when my windows are down) and around the engine area. I don't physically feel anything when I hear the click but I'm afraid that something may become an issue in the future. The click is also slowly driving me insane!!!
I've already gone back to my dealership and I bought this car brand new. It started happening almost immediately after I bought the car. When I took it in, they said they tightened a bolt (didn't specify which).
I've asked so many individuals and they can't think of anything. It's definitely not a CV issue because the car is brand new and the sound is a single click rather than a continuous knocking.
I've noticed that when I'm stopped, or in park, and I push on the brake pedal hard I hear a squeak or chirp that sounds like it's coming from the wheels. It might even sound like someone is honking at you as if you were not going when the light turned green. I have not been outside the car when this occurs, so I don't know exactly where the sound is coming from.
View 11 RepliesI purchased a 2001 Prius with 123K miles about two weeks ago. I knew the HV battery was shot when i purchased it. I decided to see if I could rebuild the HV battery on my own.
I'm very mechanical but not the brightest bulb in the room when it comes to batteries and anything electrical.
So here is where I'm at so far:
- I removed the HV battery.
- safely rested it on 2 horses (I used horses because it would give me easy access to the bottom to remove the bottom screws)
- Removed all 38 modules from the battery pack
- cleaned the busses in vinegar
- inspected each wire that connects between buss and the nut.
- tested each battery ( one of the batteries tested at -0.1, the others tested at 6.8)
- I don't know how to load test the modules, so I couldn't tell if they would drop dramatically under load, so I ordered 38 used replacement batteries off of Ebay. (Gen II)
- these replacement modules were about a half inch longer than my original modules.
- The replacement modules arrived. I cleaned the terminals, tested each one and installed them.
- Connected the battery back into the prius.
- Installed new 12V battery from the Toyota dealer.
- The Prius started right up.
- Drove it around for the first time for about 10 minutes.
- When i was driving it, the monitor in the Prius would show the engine running most of the time but sometimes it would show it charging the HV and other times charging the 12V. the engine would shut off at stop lights and resume when I pressed on the gas pedal.
- while driving back into my driveway, all of the warning lights came on and the battery fan kicked into high gear,
- I can't remember the code I pulled but it was in reference to the cells being out of balance I think. I'll have to check it again tonight when I get home.
- I removed the HV and tightened the nuts around the busses hoping the issue would be resolved.
- I was able to drive it only a few minutes before the issue returned.
other issues I noticed.
While waiting for the replacement batteries to arrive, I did the following:
- changed the cabin filter
- did an oil change.
- changed the tranny fluid and removed the tranny pan to clean out the slime and clean off the magnet.)
- changed the rear brake shoes.
- changed the front brake rotors and pads. ( they were in awful condition due to sitting so long)
***when I pressed on the brakes, only the rear brakes seem to engage, not the front. I never attempted to bleed them because I know only the dealer can do that)
My camry suddenly won't start. when i turn the key it makes this single click but won't start. Battery seems to be good. bad starter?

Been trying to locate the starter. From what I believe is it in the V install Valley? Meaning the entire cover needs to come off?
How to find / get to the starter. I will continue to see if the connection of cables are good.
Our Pilot has started having an intermittent problem where it won't turn over, just a single click when you turn the key. The rest of the electrical things work. We recently had all of the sparkplug cables replaced 'cause of rats chewing. We had it towed to the dealer; they kept it overnight but it started for them.
View 5 RepliesI posted a couple of weeks ago about my car making a single click instead of starting while turning the key. The dealer finally got the car in the other day and initially called to tell me that the positive cable was loose on the battery. Then called back a while later to say after trying the start the car after it was sitting for a while it again made the single click and didn't start. I never bought the battery cable story since I knew it couldn't be that loose, I checked. But instead they found the starter itself was the issue. I was thinking it may be a loose cable on the starter itself and was surprised to see the starter had burned out already. A new starter was ordered and will be installed on Tuesday. I am not sure who makes the starters for these cars but a 2012 starter should last years. In comparison, my 96 honda civic is still sporting the original starter after 17 years and a couple hundred thousand miles.
View 29 RepliesToday was the second time I have walked into the garage and heard my Prius making a weird noise. It's not the noise that comes from the front when you open the door or press the brakes....It's coming from the rear of the car. It stops when I press the start button. I made a video of the noise (nothing to see, as it was dark in the garage, but you can hear the noise.
My concern is that it's something running that will wear down my battery if I happen to not notice it is doing it sometime in the future.
Is it normal for the Prius's brakes to make a low-pitched squeak (kind of like something wet rubbing against something, or a burp), when I press it semi-deeply and release? The only reason I'm worrying is that I ran over a camouflaged flat metal object on the road today while changing lanes, and it could've weighed anywhere from a soda can to a heavy shovel -- it clunked against the bottom of my car loudly, then got propelled into the air and barely missed a car behind me. It seems trivial but I'm paranoid because I just got the car (used, great condition) and that happened on my first day. I don't remember if it was squeaking before the shovel incident. My girlfriend says her 3rd gen prius does it too but I have yet to verify it.
