Prius (Gen 3) :: Removing Lid Cover For Top Cup Holder?
Mar 30, 2011
I finally picked up a cell phone cup holder so I could dock the Android and tether the millions of cables (two) for power and audio when I ran into a roadblock. The holder has an expanding base so it can fit into any size cup holder. Perfect! Except that if I try to use it in the "top" cup holder that has the closing lid, it never quite expands to fit because the lid offsets the interior dimensions. The holder fits fine in the lower cup holder, but because of it's size and angle for the phone, it presses it too close to the armrest so it's essentially a no-go.
How to safely and easily remove the lid cover for the top cup holder?

I need to send my cup-holder cover and trash hook to Clay so he can color match my F650 dash and I can't figure out how to get the damn side clips on the cup-holder to let go!
I got the top clips and the bottom clip to let go but the side clips will not slip through the slots... I've been near the point of breaking them trying to slide them through...

So I want to remove a sunroof cover from a GTi that's being parted out but the problems are there is no power in the car. I know that you need to be able to tilt the sunroof up in order to remove the cover. So, is there any way to do this without power?

using a can of compressed air to clean the dust in the vents and the straw came loose and now its stuck inside the vent and whenever I make a turn I can hear the straw rolling around.
How do I actually remove the passenger side air vent cover? (nearest to the door) I tried to pry on it with a screwdriver but it doesn't seem like it wants to move. I actually asked the local dealer and they said I would have to remove the whole dash to access inside the vent. Do I really need to remove the whole dash or should I try to apply more pressure?

I recently removed the top plastic cover on my '05 Camry LE V6 to pull a plug and inspect/decide if I was going to change them out. While I felt I was being careful handling the plastic cover, I grabbed it by the access hole for the oil filler cap. Walking back into the garage, some black carbon came off, and looking at the bits on the ground, and what was left on the inside of the cover, I'm not sure if there is supposed to be a gasket there.
Maybe it was just an accumulation of spilled oil over the years that has trapped and "cooked", or something put in place to capture spilled oil. I scraped the rest of the carbon off using a razor blade and cleaned it up before installing the cover.

I recently got my UW F-Sport roof vinyl wrapped with gloss black. A local shop didn't want to wrap the antenna cover and recommended I get an obsidian black cover instead. So, I went to the dealership, ordered the part and now I have the cover. I looked up threads here on CL thinking it'd be an easy 5 minute DIY but apparently that's not the case. One member said he had to remove the interior c-pillar trims, part of the headliner etc. etc. Another said to just remove the rear seat light dome and someone else said the a dealership just prys it off. I tried the light dome, all I was able to get to were the bulbs.

I have a 2009 Camry XLE with the split reclining rear seats and the retractable (stupid) sunshade. I bought new 6x9's to replace speakers all around (Infinity 9632) with adapter plates. Got the door speakers replaced easily enough, but for the life of me I cannot figure out the rear deck. It is all one piece of plastic, no removable speaker grills. And of course the speakers are screwed in top down. Most of the posts I have found on the internet are either for previous gen Camry's or people who have the folding down rear seat.
So after a lot of manual labor I was able to remove the back seat completely and the center console. I can pop the front of the back plate up and peek in, but cannot get it to come out. I think something is odd with the models with the retractable sunscreen and reclining seats.
I have scoured the internet endlessly. Closest post I found was "take off the rear side panels (by the back window) and the deck should pop out. There are airbags in there, not very keen on forcing anything.
The car has the "premium" JBL sound system which I found to not be so "premium" and was a serious step down from my last car's factory stereo.

I need to get the HPOP reservoir top cover off so I can drill/tap a gauge probe into it.
I see torque-head bolts, and a few long bolts that go all the way down into the HPOP.
Unfortunately I cannot get two of the torque-head bolts out because they only un-thread several rotations before the heads of the bolts hit the edge of the fuel filter canister/bowl.
Any tips or tricks?

This has been an issue for a long time. The entire panel behind the center compartment with the cup holder would just come off for no reason. When if first happened, I was driving and it just felt right off. I snapped it back in place and it looked tight. But every now and then, it will just come off itself. Everytime I snapped it back in place but with just a little tap from the side of the cup holder, it's off again.
I've had it and I told the service advisor about the problem as I brought the car to the dealer for an oil change. The guy claimed he has never seen anything like this before and called the service manager to take a look. Then they looked at other gen2 priuses they had. Almost everyone of them came off with just a tap from the side. One of them required a little more effort but it's still very easy to take that off.
Then they told me it's normal since all Priuses they checked are like that. "We didn't design it, we just fix it".. Well that's true but that sounded a little irresponsible. They ordered a new part hoping it will get it fixed. Lucky it's still under warranty. I'll see what's next.
I think this is a manufacturer defect. I really didn't expect something like this from a Toyota. We rarely use the rear seats. Even when we did, I'm pretty sure the cup holders were not used, or being put on a heavy load or anything.

I just got my 2012 Prius v ( lowercase v for the Prius v wagon ) The cup holder in the center console (the top one, where the driver's right arm rests) rattles, If I put my hand on it, it'll quiet down, but that's not ideal for driving.
I'm thinking about putting a screw in it to hold it still, but would rather be a little more elegant about it - take it apart maybe see if I can put in a piece of foam or something.

I have a 2012 Prius V, and somehow A tin of Altoids has fallen behind the drawer, (hidden drawer) of the center console. How to remove the drawer to access behind it?
I can't see any catch or release to trigger releasing the drawer. I also think accessing it by opening up the whole console from the top is risky as the EV, ECO, and PWR mode buttons are wired into it.

I am trying to replace the MG2 on my 2002 Prius. I have to lower the Engine to get access to MG2. I have already lowered suspension member (sitting on ground with rack on top of it but still connected on sides), removed the torque rod and moved the inverter enough to get access to the LH engine mounting nut. My plan is to start lowering the engine from LH side to get access to MG2 without removing anything else. Is this going to work or should I remove more things?

I just took delivery of my Prius a few days ago, and I noticed a rectangular sticker on the inside of the windshield when I got home It is black (from the inside), and it is located in the top - left corner (when viewed from inside) It looks like it may be an RFID tag possibly something from the port to track vehicles as they are coming in?

I have an 06 Prius that I got needing a transmission. I picked up a used transmission from the junkyard, and I started working on it today, but I am having a problem. The big orange cables that go from the inverter to the transaxle have been cut. So I need to swap over my good cables (from the bad transmission) over to the new transmission. I need to know how the cables are removed/installed from the transaxle side. They don't seem to want to pull out.

Just bought a 2010 Prius II. The engine was overheated. Question, is there enough clearance to remove the engine alone, or will I need to drop the engine and transmission as an assembly? Looks Ike there is room. Mechanic at the dealer is telling me there isn't.

I seem to have cracked the black plastic part located directly under the front bumper. When I was parking it caught rebar and pulled it and it cracked. The pressure clip popped out but I was able to pin it back in. Is this called correct a splash shield? Again it's that black piece of plastic immediately under the regular bumper.
It has caught before in the past and I am considering just removing it completely. If it is indeed the piece it looks like online the part is around 35-40.
I'm halfway tempted to just leave it. If the car were new its a different story but if it works just taking it out without any issues then that's certainly an option too.
