Entrance way to my office parking garage is VERY steep. Aside from careful entry/exit is there a protective shield/device that I can apply to prevent paint damage to under carriage of front bumper?

View 1 Replies2007 Prius w/ ~90,000 miles. So my wife was driving home and reports she hears a thunk of some sort, and then a scraping noise coming from the front of the car. She drives it home and I take a quick peek. Nothing dragging underneath, sounds like it's coming from the tires, so probably brake-related. But here are some additional clues: when I reversed down the (very short) driveway (at very low speed, <5mph), I heard the scraping. I then put it in D to go forward, again at low speed, and heard the scraping and then something went clank, like something was shifting in the other direction. Whenever I change direction, the clank sound and more scraping. Also: when the car is off and I'm gently rocking it back and forth, I hear squeaking, like springs of a bed.
View 3 RepliesFor several days I could hear a scraping sound from the right front side. I thought it was snow packed in the wheel well at first, until there wasn't any snow there. Today I was driving on the Xway and the scraping became a buzz like a Cessna airplane. On the way back home I turned the steering wheel back and forth and sure enough the buzz came and went. That made it sure to me the wheel bearing was bad.

View 1 RepliesWas about three blocks from home when the front of the car started making a horrific metallic scraping sound as the front wheel turned. I mean LOUD. Did a quick look for something stuck in the wheels somewhere but nothing. It's not like a branch stuck in the wheel sound, but scraping a shovel on a steel beam kind of sound. Braking seems to change the makeup of the sound, but did not stop it. Parked it in the garage.
I pulled the left wheel off, looked and looked, and looked. Nothing. Fear and sadness setting in. Everything looked normal....except....a faint line on the rotor very near the inside edge. Got a mirror and looked some more, and there, wedged on the inside edge of the pad's metal part and the rotor, was a rock the size of a bb. At most. Got a small screwdriver and hammer and popped it out. Done. Sheesh.
Seriously it was so loud it was amazing. So store in file folder for future reference if needed.
The line can be felt barely with a fingernail and is half the width of a pencil lead, and goes under the innermost 1/8" of the pad. I'm thinking do I want the dealer to pull and turn it, or is it going to affect my braking at all. Pretty much gonna leave it be I think.
I want to install a large screen just in front of front bumper with enough height to protect windshield from rocks thrown up on the gravel sections of the road. I can weld a frame (or use a window screen frame), but how to affix it to the front of the car? Are there solid attach points I can use?

Today while driving a paving stone fell off the landscaping truck in front of me and (luckily) only came in contact with the black plastic air dam under the painted front bumper. The corner of the air dam is damaged and it looks like a 1 piece unit to replace. What is the part number of this piece?
View 3 RepliesI recently replaced the front wheel well liner on the passenger side. The old one was shredded and I figured it had come loose. I put a new one in and made sure all fasteners are used (bought new fasteners). Still during some freeway driving the liner did not stay behind the lip of the front bumper and rubbed a small hole in it from the tire. Any way to prevent it?

Biggest problem running a hundred plus Prius in LA is the skirt front bumper is so low to the ground (for better aerodynamics) ... less than 5 inches ground clearance when loaded ... it hits the ground and bows the side moldings of the bumper.
I have a 2005 Prius. I came home the other day and parked the car in the garage. I came back out the next morning to find a large puddle of water in the garage and the car still dripping. The drip is from the PS front bumper area just ahead of the front PS wheel. This is not the typical AC water puddle; we have two Prius so I am familiar with that one. I searched here and found a few threads on water pump issue but the description did not quite match what I have going on.

View 3 RepliesWith colder weather upon us here in the States, many of us are experiencing ICE startup with turning the cabin heat on or trying to defrost the front windows. The seat heaters go a long way towards not having to turn on the cabin heat and triggering the ICE, but that doesn’t solve the window defrosting issue.
I was thinking today as we got the first of our seasonal rains here around the Sacramento area, and the ICE kicking in while defrosting the windows, it would be nice to have another non-ICE solution for this. I’m not sure if the technology yet exists, but if there was a defrosting system on the front and side windows similar to the defrosting grid of the rear windows, but invisible to the eye, this might do the trick.
I have a scraping noise which sounds like it is coming from the front end but only around 10 to 20 mph. It can only be heard when driving down a quiet street, next to a building (mcdonald's drive through) or in my parking garage at work. Always makes the noise, it sounds like it something was scraping on one of the rotors.
Purchased car in August with 26,000 miles from a non VW dealer --- first mistake. Two days after signing papers showed signs of valve body issue. Took it to VW dealer near work and after two days they finally got OK to replace valve body and all is good. About 5K to 6K miles later started hearing the noise. At 36,000 the tranny started shifting hard and having problems up shifting occasionally, would rev up really high and then finally go into gear. Took 3 service visits for the same dealer to be able reproduce it and then they finally figure out they left out 2 liters (their calculation) of fluid when doing the valve body, so it got driven 10,000 miles while 2 liters low. They basically acted like they were doing me a favor by adding the fluid they left out in the first place and said only time will tell if there is any damage.
Took it back to the same dealer again for the scraping noise. Supposedly 3 people drove the car and never heard the noise. CEL came on yesterday and I decided to try a new dealer and have them look into the noise while it was there. Did a ride along with the service writer and tech. Writer is pretty sure he heard the noise and tech wants it back after the holidays to road test more and try driving in some quiet areas.
It has been determined that the car does not make the noise if there is no weight on the front end. I have jacked it up and spun the wheels and first dealer claims they had it on the lift in drive and could not hear. New dealer is thinking bearing noise that is only heard when bearing has weight on the front wheels or something to do with the CV axles or something in the tranny. If it is the tranny well we know who's fault that is.
25k miles, recently started getting this noise from the front end when going ~15mpg or less. Decreases and increases with wheel speed and loudest when coasting to a stop sign. Sounds like a scraping disc brake, however brake pressure doesn't affect the noise. Started happening after last service when they rotated the tires. Haven't had the chance to inspect anything yet.
