My hood does not want to open. The hood will not pop up enough to allow me to unlatch it and open it. Currently, the workaround is to insert a very thin screwdriver into the weatherstriping between the hood and the bumper and gently "nudge" the hood open.
View 19 RepliesThe problem: dead battery, hatch is locked (although 4 doors unlocked), little plastic cover at base of hatch removed, reached inside, but try as I may I am unable to unlatch hatch. How/what to do to manipulate mechanism. Also looking for instructions on how to jump-start engine from engine compartment.
Notes: My owners manual resides with spare tire for safe keeping and is therefore unavailable. Perhaps too safe! What was Toyota thinking to leave doors unlocked when battery dies, but to lock (default mode?) the rear hatch and deny easy access to the battery? I believe it was unlocked when I parked the car.
I have a used 2010. Came home to my car rifled through (I left it unlocked) door not completely closed, 12v battery dead because of interior lights. Jumped it. Got it into ready mode. Thought I left it on enough to charge the battery. Locked it. Unlocked and locked it with the fob... no problem.
Came back later in the day, now dead and locked. Car didn't come with manual key. Very expensive to replace so i skipped it. Is that now my only solution without damaging the car? How to open the hood so I can jump it?
I have a 1997 Ford Econoline conversion campervan that I don't use very often. I need to open the hood to jump start the battery. Last time I opened the hood I did not notice anything wrong with the hood or the hood release latch inside the cab. Now when I pulled the hood release latch inside the cab, nothing happens to the hood at all (the hood does not open at all).
Is there a way I can open the hood or do I need to tow it to my mechanic?
I have a P2 and after oil change, I noticed a bit strange engine sound while the engine hood was open. Is that sound normal? Usually I do not notice much of engine sitting as driver inside the car.

On my Corrado, I can pop it over w/ a screwdiver thru the grille, can this be done on a B6? It even looks like there is a cut out between the grille & hood to get at the release, but I can't figure it out for the life of me.

View 2 RepliesI cant open the hood on my accent. Pulling on the latch handle I can tell there is no pull. It is slack.
I tried pulling the cable with pliers but it didn't work. Pressing the hood latch under the hood does nothing, the hood is tight and wont budge.
My battery also just died last night.
I am getting "Hood Open" warning even though it was closed. I tried open and close it for several time but it is still showing the same warning. Where to look for the sensor and what steps needs to be taken for taking care of this issue.

View 4 RepliesI drive a mk4 GTI 2004 Stage 1 software. Just got home from being at sea for the last three months and my hood latch won't open. It pops exposing the tab, but the safety lock won't release the hood. I tried putting my hand in and pulling the the mech that the latch attaches too but it wont budge. I then tried removing the grille to have a better view and more access, but it doesn't look like its possible to remove the grille without popping the hood. Anyway, how to tackle it, maybe if there's a way to remove the grille without breaking it or getting from under it.
View 2 RepliesI picked up a new CSG GTI, 6speed with Xenon and Bluetooth on Thursday. Yesterday evening when I got home from work I opened the hood to make sure everything was cool I guess. Then this morning I was going to open it again, and the release inside the car is loose, like it's hardly attached to anything.
MKVI? I know it's probably a cable issue, but it sucks to have to drive back 50 miles to the dealer, 2 days after buying it, because the hood won't open.

My brake pedal went right to the floor yesterday. I knew my rear brake was squealing so assumed it was my pads worn out. I went and bought pads. Fronts were half gone, rear was all gone. I couldn't get the rear tire off the back passenger(I even loosened lug nuts and drove up and down street) so only 3 replaced for now. Second time in a row rear brakes wore out well before the fronts.. Well, while that tire(I tighted it up again) soaked in pbblaster I drove it around for the day. Lost brakes again. After a few pumps I gained pressure. In the driveway I pumped and pumped and pumped the brakes.
Eventually I did see the leak all over the driveway. Of course it's on the tire I can't get off. So I checked the brake fluid. It was down but still visible. Closed hood. Then came back to car an hour later and now hood won't open. I had my wife pull the lever inside the car and you can hear it moving under the hood but I can't pop the hood up in order to get my hand under there to release the lever. Is there a trick to open the hood manually? My old dodge stealth had a small hole you could get to with a long screwdriver to open the hood manually. I thought most cars have a trick like that that isn't well published so people can't break into the hood. Does the camry have one? Now what?
Went to pull on the hood latch lever and nothing happened. It almost appears that the cable/ball has either popped or broken off the latch. While pulling on the lever you can hear a sliding noise at the latch.
I removed the bottom panel under the bumper but no support there as the latch is covered and not accessed from that location. There is a slight gap from the front under the hood and above the logo but how to get around to this.
How to at least open the hood from the outside. Remember, the cable won't release.
My son's 2007 Honda Civic coupe hood won't open. There's no resistance when pulling the hood release. Either the cable is broken or disconnected from the latch.

View 4 RepliesMy son's escape has been parked for about 6 mos... alternator went out and I refused to pay to fix it due to some disciplinary issues with him. Anyhow, yesterday I went out to go look at it and the hood won't open. When I parked it I took out the battery and shut the hood. Never had an issue opening the hood prior.
When I pull the lever, its real tight - like the cable is not really moving or if it is, it cant be much. I'm afraid it might break if I keep pulling. I tried having him pull it while I pushed and pulled on the hood, still stuck. I have no clue why or how it is stuck, but wondering on any way to get it open. I can't really see in there...through the grill or under the hood.
My hood has ceased to pop open when I pull the latch from the interior release. I removed the panel to see if the cable came undone from the release lever but it is still intact. From what I can tell, the cable seems to be snapped in the middle. I brought the car to 2 different mechanics, both said they would have to do damage to get under the hood. But I've read online and it seems other people are able to do it.
