Prius (Gen 3) :: HSI Screen Very Dim Whenever Headlights Are On
Aug 24, 2011
When I got into my car to drive into work this morning I found that the HSI screen was very dim whenever the headlights are on. And as I drove into work, the screen got dimmer by the minute. The problem is concentrated to the HSI screen but I noticed that the speedometer was starting to dim as well by the time I arrived to work. Strangely, the screen is perfectly fine if the headlights are off. And yes, I did make sure the display brightness was turned all the way to the Max.

I realized some "Fog" in both of my Headlights, even Waterdrops ran down behind the screen of one of them... O.K., it's Wintertime and I know the Physics of Humidity and different Temperatures quite well - but this seems a little bit too much for me. VW says, this is "normal" but I do not think so. How to get the humidity out? It's not so easy to get them open, because I got the same double Xenon headlights...

I can change my nav system radio for just a radio? I am not smart enough to make the nav work and the light from the backup camera wipes out my night vision.

I've had my ISF for almost a year now but I'm just now noticing that the navigation screen on my 08 does not darken the colors when the headlights come on. The map still shows up bright white and can be distracting.
Is there a setting I am missing somewhere to change this to black with orange accents instead when the headlight low beams are on, or is it just supposed to be white on the map view all the time? My wife has a 2014 ES and it does this automatically. Come to think of it, every other car I've had that had navigation did this automatically. I tried searching but couldn't find any threads on this already.

I was heading to the gym tonight and noticed that when I had my headlights on the nav screen stays white and does not go into the dark mode it is supposed to with the headlight on. I pressed the display button and there was no indication that there was an option to go back and fourth between day and night mode as usual . Only the option to adjust brightness and contrast. I do have the option to turn off the screen but this is annoying.

I had my navigation system reboot yesterday and since then, when the headlights go on, the navigation screen dims rather than stay in daytime mode (brighter). How to keep the navigation screen on daytime when headlights go on?

I have a 2006 Toyota Prius
Nothing is displaying on the nav screen. I removed the MFD screen and inspected it can't find anything wrong with it the soldering looks fine. Is there anyway I can test the unit before buying one.

I always try to save gas in my Prius so I hit the Ev button whenever I'm in the target parking lot. Overall my Fuelly is 51.9 mpg. Today when I got into the car I hit my Ev button and it said "battery too low". Do you think my car is starting to have problems? I also hit the power control a lot too.

I am disappointed by the Gray background and tiny type for street names on the map display. My Garmin handheld is easier to read even though it is a much smaller screen. My LS460 has a easy to read map.

Ok, I just figured out how to customize the Startup Image..the instructions are on page 48 of Nav System Owner's Manual. I have the Advanced Tech Package.
The Image has to be a JPG or JPEG image up to 10MB. On your home PC, you create TWO files on a USB thumb drive, one called "StartupImage" and "DisplayOffImage" (Both Case sensitive). You put the files (images) that you want, inside the "StartupImage" folder. You then go to your Prius and plug into the USB port. You then go into Setup -> General -> Customize Startup Image. Then just follow the onscreen instructions and your done!

The touch screen calibration is off. I have to push areas about 1/2 inch above the true area to get response. I've tried the power button/lights on off to get to the diagnosis screen but it first goes to the system check screen. At that point the menu button in upper right is inaccessible because the area needed to be touched is above that beyond the screen area. Is there another way to get to the diagnosis menu to ultimately get to the touch screen calibration?

I got my wife a Prius C3 last week. We are trying to figure out why the trip summary screen only comes up sometimes when we shut the car off? Can't seem to find the right combo to get it to come up all the time. I have a 2012 Prius 3 and the screen always comes up when I shut the car off. We have looked in the owners manual with no luck and our dealer knows nothing about the C's.

About two weeks ago I saw some moisture under the odometer screen. . I went to the dealer, the dealer said it is chemicals and will not be under toyota's warranty. what ever it is , I think it should be under warranty since it is under two layers of glasses, if it is not toyota's fault, how can it get there.

I have a 2016 Prius with Nav. I do like to drive with the navigation (map) full screen most of the time. This does not seem to be possible. I would like either a way to set the navigation screen to 1 panel only. The options seem to be split screen or a 3 panel screen, or an option or way to change the map screen to full screen and have it stay that way. What I have now is the screen setup for split screen with Nav on one half and something else on the other. I can click on the map and have it go to full screen but after about 20 seconds it will timeout and go back to split screen mode.

My prick of a husband punched the lcd screen in our 08 prius and the display cracked. We can't install it ourselves, so buying the parts secondhand and installing them ourselves is not an option.

I am due to make a 400 mile round trip business trip today. Go out and start the car, and the screen display is black. The MFD. None of the buttons on it work, either - I have the beep ON, no beep. I turned it off, waited about 1 minute and tried again, still nothing. Went for a short drive (took the dogs to the park where they can run), it was off for about 35 minutes. Still nothing for the short drive back home. I mean short, this is less than 2 miles one way.
I can still access the a/c and the radio from the steering wheel. I can see my speed, fuel etc, that is fine. It is just the display monitor. This came out of the blue, I have not noticed any issues at all.

I just bought a 2013 prius 4 with the solar roof package this past weekend. I researched this car for a long time and love it so far!
I can't figure out how to make the screen brighten and dim when it's day/night. And my "default/home" screen is the navigation screen. I've managed to get it to split with my audio screen but I'd love my main screen to JUST be my audio screen and only view the navigation screen when I'm utilizing the navigation.

We've only had the car for a week but I'm puzzled by what I'm seeing for the mpg on the screen. At no time has the screen indicated an average mpg of outside the range of 44.7 to 45.0 mpg. This is despite filling it up, resetting the trip meters and immediately heading up the Cajon Pass twice while the instant fuel economy indicated 25 mpg or less. I understand the inconsistency of calculating at the pump because of the bladder but doing that has worked out to 2 fills in the high 30s, one in the high 40s and one of 53 mpg. Yet the car still reads 44.7 to 45.0.
It's not a big thing because I don't depend on it; I tend to fill the car when it goes below 1/2 full and over time I will have enough pump calculations to give me a fairly accurate depiction of my average mpg.

I got a message on my screen that has since disappeared. It read "There is a problem with the transmission "P" lock mechanism. Park your car on a flat surface and fully appy parking break.
What does this all mean?

I just got a new 2016 Prius c 4, and I love it so far! This is also the first car I've owned under my own name, as I've mostly lived near public transportation and borrowed cars up until now. In other words, I'm a bit of newbie when it comes to the Prius and cars in general...
