Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Range Count Down Using EV?
Jul 17, 2014
I've had my P3 for a week and have really been working on getting the max MPG using tried and true techniques and I've settled at 53mpg on average for the week.
During my commute, there is a long stretch of downhill - almost 3 miles - where I never engage the ICE but I notice my range ticks off with each mile.

I have a 2009 Prius (purchased in March of '09) - working just fine - 58.6 mpg.
Each time that I have gone to purchase gas, I have not pushed the reset button on the Consumption screen as I have wanted to keep a running average for mpg. However, the miles driven count since the last refill automatically goes back to 0 (again on the Consumption Screen) and then starts a new count. This is useful as I know how many miles I have driven since the last refill. Today, however, I purchased fuel and the count did not revert to 0. Has a sensor been damaged? Is there anything I can or should do? I know I could press the Reset button but that would be a last resort.

So this is the second time that has happened to me.
I had 145 km range left on my tank.
I decided to fill up $12 of gas, my bar was at 2, it went up to half tank full, around 6 bars.
However, my range didn't go up, it still showed 145km left.
Now I'm driving and the range is down to 79km left, but I still have 4 bars left, usually at 79km I would only have 1 bar left.
Usually I have to refill up the full tank for the range to change and goes to 645km

Been driving around a lot trying to empty the gas tank in my new Prius and was wondering what the "Cruising Range" figure actually represents. Do the miles listed mean I have that many miles left until the tank is bone dry, or is that the range until the tank gets to the warning light?

How long did your car take to accurately display cruising range? I am on my first tank of gas, and even though my average is 54.5mpg, my cruising range is displayed as 380miles. That doesnt add up at all...

I generally average north of 50mpg on a regular basis. Yet, my cruising range is always somewhere around 300~ miles for a full tank.

Winter temps are dropping my mpgs from 51-53 mpg to the 44-47 mpg range. Snow, rain, slush puts drag on the car, as well as temps in the 20-40s causing the ICE to run more during warmup and during the 15 mile trip I make daily. Also mpgs in town on 1-3 mile trips are dropping into 29-33 mpg range. I guess the Prius isn't made to thrive in cold temps. I don't know if there is much I can do about it. I did remember to raise the pressures in my tires which has dropped also.

Ok, had the prius c four for a few months now. What is up with the gas gauge? When I get down to one rectangle my cruising range drops to like 9 miles. I got gas and put in 8 gallons, which means I had 1.5 gallons still. Why is it showing such low cruising range mileage? Looked through the manuals by couldn't find anything useful. Also, is there a way to see exactly how much gas you do have? The rectangles seem a bit arbitrary to me when it comes to representing an actual amount of gas?

What the fuel pressure range should be for a 1999 5.3L?

Yesterday I got the low fuel warning "Range 35 miles". I drove another 10 miles, then put 10.84 gallons in. That range warning seems really conservative, since the tank is 13 gallons. I wonder how many miles I *really* have after the car warns me. (I know it is affected by my speed, terrain, head winds, if AC is on, and so forth.) . Has to try driving til they ran out of gas after getting that low fuel warning?

How many miles can get on one tank of gas. Is it between 300-400 miles? I know hills and city driving makes a difference, but I'm trying to get an average.

Just traded in a 2012 Nissan Sentra SR on a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and have a question about the gas mileage.
My Sentra always read 28+ MPG, but it was a known issue that the reading was almost exactly 3 MPG off; thus, I was hitting about 25 MPG most of the time. I could typically get by for a week and a half, sometimes two on a single tank (which was about 11 gallons).
I took the Santa Fe home on Thursday night, filled up from the dealer and reading a range of 384 MTE. As of tonight (Saturday), my fuel meter is reading two notches over the halfway mark and the range has dropped to 232 MTE. I haven't driven anywhere near 150 miles since Thursday, FYI.
The MPG on the Santa Fe started t a measly 12 MPG when I left the lot, most likely due to sitting and idling and lots of stop-and-go driving on test drives. I've since managed to get it up to 22.2 MPG (and feel confident it should eventually read about 25 MPG, about the same as my Sentra). Even though the MPG reading is going up, I feel like I'm going to be filling up the tank again without hitting a full week of driving (and this is a bigger tank than the Sentra). I'm not getting the difference. Is there an issue that I'm missing here? After checking in with the dealer that the previous owners used for service to ensure there were no red flags, they did tell me that it had an active bulletin for a software update. I've read in other places here that this update can have some effect on the MPG. Any thought on if these things are connected?

We have an 04 GX-470. Most of the time the fuel gauge and the range readout work OK. However, sometimes, the fuel gauge works, but the range shows 0 miles, or they both don't work - fuel gauge shows empty and range = 0. My wife says she thinks she's seen the gauge = empty but the range still showing xxx miles - I haven't seen that.
We've been to 2 different Lexus dealers, paid for diagnostics at both and gotten no fix. In fact, they have both said they can't find anything wrong.
To my way of thinking, these would both get their initial information from the same source - some sort of sender unit on the fuel tank. However, as both gauges do not always go out together, I'm inclined to think that this probably isn't the cause. I would think that the range readout comes from some calculations done by the onboard computer.

I've got a Gen III Prius with the remote A/C start option and am wondering if there is a way to increase the range of the key fob?
I have to park in the sun all day. My office is on the second floor of my building with a window overlooking the parking lot. I can see my car as I walk out. With summer approaching, I'd like to be able to point my fob at the car from my office, start the A/C, and have the car be somewhat cool by the time I walk down to it.

I have been driving the Prius C of my parents and as of last week I am a proud owner of 2008 Prius V. Where I can see the range that I have with the gas in my tank? In Prius C when you press the Trip button the odometer changes from trip A to B then to full odometer and then range.

I often use my key to locate my car in a crowded parking lot. But the range of the keyfob isn't very far, and Prius beeps pretty quietly, compared to other cars I've owned.
Where is the wireless receiver in the Prius? In the door? I'm wondering if there's a way to make it more RF-transparent and thus boost its range.

My Plugin is only about 4 months old, but the EV mileage range is now down to 9.8 from 12.4 from the first very first day I charged it overnight. This with HVAC and fan off.

Obviously it seems like range is holding up really well for most of us. But say the theoretical happens and range starts going way down over the next 3-6 years. At what point would you say, for you personally, would it become less likely you would plug in very often, if at all?
For me, in my current life and distances I drive, it would take going down to about 6 miles of range to plug in a lot less. If I got down to 3 or 4, I might not plug in at all.
Again, this is all just theoretical. Hopefully our range never goes that low.

I bought a Priuc C because of the MPG. My wife has a Lexus and she is able to see how many miles she has left before needing refuel. On my Prius C I put 2 gallons and the cruise range shows 1 mile. Why is the computer not calculating correctly the miles. I tried it several time and get the same results,.

I have played around with settings and wanted to see if I can have range/distance to empty showing in this screen. Doesn't seem possible. I tried looking through the online manual.
