My 2013 Prius fills with approx 10.5 Gallons, but around 9 gallons the gas pump nozzle starts to clicks off every 10 cents. Is this normal?
View 3 RepliesI just bought a 2014 Prius- Pkg. 2 car. I had an '06 & an '08 Prius and kept the tire pressure @ 44 Lb.s for maximum mileage. I always fill my tank to the top well after the pump clicks off.
1) The dlr. told me I will only get an accurate MPG by not filling the tank after the pump clicks off. He claims the computer doesn't read the extra 1-2 gallons and that is causing me to get about 35 MPG even though the trip meter says 50 MPG.
2) The dlr. told me not to run my tires @ 44 lbs. Said it is a safety issue. I've been doing 44 lbs. since 2006 with great mileage and no safety issues.
Am I wrong for filling my tank to the top? My Prius has just over 600 miles today.
I pulled up to a costco gas pump with "0" miles left to go on the dashboard computer (non-Nav).
I know that manufacturers always leave room for reserve, but I pumped 9.89 gallons to fill up.
According to the specs, the 2011 Prius holds 11.9 gallons.
So where did that other 2 gallons go?
I have a 2002 corolla and every time I gas it up it seems to kick the pump off like its full (for instance if the car was on empty I could fill it and it would kick off at around 10 gallons) but If I keep pumping really slow i can fit another 3 gallons in it. Is this normal or not. I drive around 150 miles a day so i fill up quit often. It has done this for the last 80000 miles and I have just accepted it but since its been super cold out this winter I really don't want to stand out side no longer than I have to (it seems to take about 5-7 minutes just to get the extra 3 gallons in).

View 5 RepliesI have a 2010 hyundai sonata -- I purchased brand new in May2010. I've recently been having an issue with filling up my gas tank -- the nozzle clicks off too early! I live in NJ (so i'm not pumping my own gas), so I usually tell the attendant that it should take roughly $40 worth, and they'll restart it.. but sometimes it clicks off multiple times! It's becoming more and more frequent, also! And, yesterday, I got to the point where I just told the attendant to forget it, because it clicked off 3 times in a row! But, when I started my car, I only had between half and 3/4 of a tank??
I've filled up at multiple stations and have had the same problem consistently. I commute over 100 miles a day to/from work, so I'm filling my tank every 4 or 5 days.. the car currently has a little over 20k miles on it.
When I fuel up at fuel throttle the nozzle pops every time at every direction i give the nozzle. I can get it to fill at half speed but sometimes fuel is coming out of the breather tube and circulating back into the filler neck. I took the right rear fender liner out and checked for pinched lines but everything seemed ok.

View 1 RepliesAbout 3 weeks ago I bought 2014 Prius Two. Was purchased as A Certified Pre Owned. At first I thought I just got a bad pump at the gas station. It's now been 5 fill ups at three different stations and same problem every time.
The fuel pump clicks almost instantly when trying to fill. I've tried different angles and manage to get a few gallons in before it prematurely clicks. I've resorted to holding the pump at the minimum flow to to get a consistent flow until fill up.
Car is under warranty so will probably just take it to the dealer. If it something quick and easy fix I'd rather just do it myself over the weekend.. I've ran the gas low most fill ups and topped off.
I worked with my buddy troubleshoot and remove a faulty fuel pump. He received it a week or so later and did the install himself. After this, he states that while pumping gas at the gas station the nozzle no longer cuts off automatically when full causing overflow. He says this has happened at different stations and different pumps. I told him to go double check connections and that everything was sealed. I am wondering what could be causing it..
2004 Passat v6 wagon auto
Working on my cousin's 84 F150 351w HO with a Holley 4180 4bbl and auto trans.
I rebuilt the carb because of sticking floats (that and it was filthy and sitting). It fired up and I drove it to my uncle's shop a ways down the road before even adjusting anything. At the shop, it fires right up, idles great and floats and idle mixture screws are now adjusted.
It has a dead spot right off of idle that's been driving me crazy, and stalls in gear if I'm not careful with the pedal.
After reading around here, I looked down the carb to make sure the fuel was squirting as soon as the throttle moved, and noticed there was NO FUEL squirting from the nozzles. So that explains the dead spot...
There was just the needle, then the nozzles, then the screw that went in, same as they came out (only cleaner). Wondering where to go from here to get these working again. Going to pull the nozzles off and see if there's anything obvious going on in there.
From all I can see, the fuel tank capacity on my '12 should be 17.5 gallons.
As I finish up a trip with it, I know I've "pushed the envelope" as far as fuel range is according to the guage/computer. I get the warning that I need to refuel and that I have 50 miles to empty, but I've driven 40 miles into that last range before refueling, and only been able to put 14 or so gallons into the tank.
My question is: If I were to drive until it literally runs out of gas, then fill it, would the guage/computer recalibrate or do I need to install a new fuel sensor?
I get the warning as the guage indicates just under 1/4 tank remaining, and I have yet to run it until the guage indicates that it's actually on empty (family and dog are with me so risking it is currently out). I'm hoping that the guage itself knows what the real deal is and that the computer is just not with it.... OH, FWIW full is EXACTLY on the "full" line and not over as in my Kia.
Without key even in ignition, fuel pump relay clicks constantly every 8 seconds with the gauge lights illuminating during this 8 seconds. The only lights that function are the gauge lights. Upon turning on the headlight switch only the gauge lights illumin8. Absolutely no headlights, dome light or brake lights. No fuel pump sense/pulse. No radio, key on or in accessories.
Multi-function switch was not the issue. How would I troubleshoot this one?
I have a 2000 echo that recently will not allow me to fill the gas tank unless I do it very slowly. Otherwise it continually trips the pump nozzle.

View 10 RepliesHaving trouble filling car up with gas? Here for the past 2 months its been gradually getting worse. I try to fill the tank full of gas and the nozzle keeps clicking acting like its full. At first it would only click once during the fill up. Now its 5 or 6 times during the fill up.
View 21 RepliesWhen filling up with gas, I can only get a couple gallons put in the tank before the nozzle kicks off from the pump. As I get closer to filling up the tank it kicks off more frequently. The way I equalize the gas tank while filling up so that I can add more gas is to move the gasoline nozzle in and out a couple times and i can see a little bit of gas squirt out while the pressure inside is adjusting.
I don't think anyone was able to put something into my tank to plug it up. There is a little hole directly under where the gas cap screws onto that has a rubber opening, I'm wondering if maybe some dirt got into that and plugged it assuming that hole has something to do with making sure the pressure equalizes, but I don't know.
I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent that just started not filling up. The pump kicks off every couple seconds. From reading other posts it sounds like its the evap canister (wife would often top off the tank). The question is, does the evap canister need replaced or do the hoses need cleaned? Is there an easy way to get the hoses off?
View 4 RepliesAfter filling up today at the pump, the low fuel message is still coming on. My gauge is correct though. How to clear the message. I keep on trying to reset it with the reset button but it doesn't go away.
View 8 RepliesI was filling up my tank, as I was running in fumes a few days ago (just 14 miles before death as per trip computer) and to my surprise, when I filled my tank, it only went roughly up to 16 gallons (15.9xx to be precise) before the nozzle kept shutting off. Was the nozzle defective (or was I in a rush for not waiting until the vapors leave the tank?) or the 18.5 gallon tank has a ~2.5 gallon reserve that even the instrument gauge doesn't account for, as it was all the way in the E with the yellow gas pump icon on?
