I pulled up to a costco gas pump with "0" miles left to go on the dashboard computer (non-Nav).
I know that manufacturers always leave room for reserve, but I pumped 9.89 gallons to fill up.
According to the specs, the 2011 Prius holds 11.9 gallons.
So where did that other 2 gallons go?
My 2013 Prius fills with approx 10.5 Gallons, but around 9 gallons the gas pump nozzle starts to clicks off every 10 cents. Is this normal?

As I finish up a trip with it, I know I've "pushed the envelope" as far as fuel range is according to the guage/computer. I get the warning that I need to refuel and that I have 50 miles to empty, but I've driven 40 miles into that last range before refueling, and only been able to put 14 or so gallons into the tank.
My question is: If I were to drive until it literally runs out of gas, then fill it, would the guage/computer recalibrate or do I need to install a new fuel sensor?
I get the warning as the guage indicates just under 1/4 tank remaining, and I have yet to run it until the guage indicates that it's actually on empty (family and dog are with me so risking it is currently out). I'm hoping that the guage itself knows what the real deal is and that the computer is just not with it.... OH, FWIW full is EXACTLY on the "full" line and not over as in my Kia.
I have a 2002 corolla and every time I gas it up it seems to kick the pump off like its full (for instance if the car was on empty I could fill it and it would kick off at around 10 gallons) but If I keep pumping really slow i can fit another 3 gallons in it. Is this normal or not. I drive around 150 miles a day so i fill up quit often. It has done this for the last 80000 miles and I have just accepted it but since its been super cold out this winter I really don't want to stand out side no longer than I have to (it seems to take about 5-7 minutes just to get the extra 3 gallons in).
View 2 RepliesI recently purchased a used 2007 and have since driven 308 miles on it. There are currently 3 bars left on the fuel gauge, and the computer reports that I'm averaging 45.8 mpg.
However, I don't see how that mpg is possible because if I have been averaging 45.8 mpg over 308 miles, I should have used only 6.27 gallons...and 6.27 gallons is only 56.5% of the 11.9 gallon tank size, compared to the 70% that I've used based on my current fuel gauge status.
A large auto magazine has reviewed the Auris Hybrid (Gen III Prius drive train) while remarking that driving in 'B' gives better regen. This auto magazine also does a fuel economy evaluation and noted engine noise as a negative point for the car.
Now, how much fuel economy is affected during normal city/highway driving when you drive in 'B' rather than 'D'? And as a bonus. How much more will the engine run due to the missing regen?
I filled my 2010 Prius IV. Every day since, my indicated MPG has gone up about one MPG, with my 40 mile round trip to work.
I had been running around 46-48 MPG indicated this winter. Next day it was up over 50. Yesterday 52, today it is up to 53 mpg and I have used 1/2 tank on 256 miles, which is much better than my winter stats.
How many miles does it say you can drive after you fill up? Mine says 334 and that's what I'm getting. I want to hit 400 for a tank and can't.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2012 Prius 3 that's about 1 1/2 months old with about 1,500 miles. I remember when it had 3 miles and the dealer filled it up it showed a 600+ mile range. Since then I've had a few fill ups where I've gotten it down to about 20-40 miles left in the range and when I fill it up it's only filling up with just under 10 gallons and showing a range of about 475 miles. If I remember correctly the fuel tank is 12.9 gallons so I feel like I'm not filling up to those last two gallons. Not sure what's going on.
View 2 RepliesI just bought a 2014 Prius- Pkg. 2 car. I had an '06 & an '08 Prius and kept the tire pressure @ 44 Lb.s for maximum mileage. I always fill my tank to the top well after the pump clicks off.
1) The dlr. told me I will only get an accurate MPG by not filling the tank after the pump clicks off. He claims the computer doesn't read the extra 1-2 gallons and that is causing me to get about 35 MPG even though the trip meter says 50 MPG.
2) The dlr. told me not to run my tires @ 44 lbs. Said it is a safety issue. I've been doing 44 lbs. since 2006 with great mileage and no safety issues.
Am I wrong for filling my tank to the top? My Prius has just over 600 miles today.
Why does the fuel usage (MPG) stats reset after filling up the tank??
Can I set it so that it doesn't do that?
The installation of the new 50 gal. Titan tank went well overall. Start up was smooth with no leaks but the fuel gauge is showing empty with about 45 gallons in the tank.
The sending unit was properly oriented ("clocked") so I'm guessing the electrical connector is not secure at the top of the sending unit. Not sure I can reach the connector without lowering the tank somewhat.
I have a 2001 f250 with the 5.4. from what I have read i should have the 38 gallon tank. i have been really questioning the accuracy of my fuel gauge on empty with the light on 25 gallons and the fuel pump will click off and after i drive i can park and my fuel gauge will read lower than what it was when i pulled into the driveway with. me and the wife went driving yesterday and we pulled back into the driveway on half a tank this morning I went to go run some errands and when i started the truck the gauge was almost on a quarter of a tank my driveway is flat and after driving for about 35 minutes the gauge was still in the same spot and did not move up nor down.
I have a locking gas cap cover so i know someone is not taking gas out. I have changed the fuel filter and tried numerous different fuel system cleaners to try and see if maybe the contacts on the float in the tank are dirty nothing has changed or gotten any better. I have checked the wire harness from the top of the tank and followed it up under the hood and found no drop in voltage or cracked or damaged wires. I checked with my multi-meter I used my fluke meter not some cheap one. Don't know if the gauge is reading less or more from getting gas i am thinking it is showing less than what is in the tank. What could be my problem?
What are the big differences between the 11 and the 12 ? I might get a 12 instead of getting a sports wagen . I love my 11 but want a different color and completely loaded with every bell and whistle ...
View 2 RepliesI drive a 2011 Tundra 5.L 4X4 truck. why do I get better gas mileage while driving in the Rockies vs states like OK and TX? I get 2mpg better while driving in the Rockies. 17mpg vs 15mpg. I drive same speed, buy the same 87 octane gas & drive on Interstate highways. And it doesn't matter whether I'm driving to or from. Is the gas quality different in the Rockies vs the south or plains states?

Clockspring is power to airbag and control module connects to, in my case, the CAN-BUS that actually sends the signals. Am I correct in my thinking here? I have just about put all the pieces together for my MK6 MFSW retrofit and still wondering if I'll need a new clockspring or not.

How many miles and/or gallons are available when one is down to the last "blip" of the 10 blips showing the gas level?
I have gotten anywhere from 79 to 92 miles in the highest blip. I have gotten 43-50 miles on the second to last blip. Today I got 30 miles out of the last blip and it took a hair over 9 gallons to fill up the tank. I feared that I was cutting it pretty close.
I was just wondering how many miles I might expect to get out of that last blip. My normal MPG is 42-47 MPG. But the MPG really seems to go down as one gets towards the lower blips. Is there some kind of warning when one gets really low?
Any difference in the f350 frames from 05 to 11? I am particularly interested in the portion under the bed. I am trying to figure out if an oem goose neck hitch would fit back on my 05 if I changed the bed out as well.
View 2 RepliesMy CEL came on today, gas level was a little under a quarter tank.
Took it to Advanced on the way home to have them scan it quick, and it threw a fuel pressure regulator code. I stopped in the gas station on the way home and filled it up, and the CEL was gone and hasn't been on since. I'm thinking HPFP, but maybe not? Could it be injectors?
Having trouble filling car up with gas? Here for the past 2 months its been gradually getting worse. I try to fill the tank full of gas and the nozzle keeps clicking acting like its full. At first it would only click once during the fill up. Now its 5 or 6 times during the fill up.
View 21 RepliesNormally when I fill my fuel tank, of course the car is off/not running. And once it is full and I get I'm the car then start it, the "Cruising Range" read out has always read about 403 mi.
Right after the recall was done, it read about 420 mi. if I recall correctly, but in the next fill up or two, it's remained at 403/404 mi.
However, today when I filled up and got in the car, the cruising range read 387 mi.
The tank was between 1/4 and 1/2 full before fill up.
