Prius (Gen 3) :: Fixing Interior Scratches In Dark Gray?

View 12 RepliesI picked up my Prius III last month (love it) and noticed some hairline scratches in the black spoiler, but thought they might wax out as they are pretty faint (they didn't).
Looks like the dealer ran a gritty wash mitt or sponge over the spoiler and swirled the finish. In the bright sun you can see many light scratches in the finish.
I thought about using a gentle polish, but wasn't sure if that was a good move as I think it is just a high gloss plastic and not paint. The last thing I want to do is add more damage.
I did wash, clay, and wax my car as soon as I could and spent some time detailing it and thought the scratches were reduced, but had it out today and they are still there.
How can I fix these deep scratches on the back of a side mirror?
View 14 RepliesNoticed that the Gen 3 black model seems to scratch very easily? In my ten years of owning cars, I've received less than 10 scratches. In 10 months of owning my Gen 3, I have now at least 5 pretty visible scratches. I do my best to park away from other cars, don't park by high pedestrian traffic streets, etc. I'm taking precautions I never took with my other cars and I still get rudely surprised almost monthly.
View 19 RepliesI've had my v for about a year and I find that I have many scratches and gouges especially in the cargo area. The plastic seems much easier to damage than any car I've ever had. I'll need to be especially careful in the future. But I would like to find a way to cover up, seal or patch the damages.
View 1 RepliesEvery car has its "Persian flaw," but this one irks me. A bird pooped on the car (in several places), and I always addressed the problem by laying wet paper towels over the mess to "pre soak" and then I could wipe it away without damaging the finish underneath.
Well, this time, a bird must have had a healthy diet of grit because that poop acted like sandpaper and put nice scratches into the finish before I could stop what I was doing.
It's not that obvious, but it bothers me. I don't want to attempt to buff out or polish out the scratches without knowing what WILL do the job right. I don't want to make a bigger mess trying to fix it.
Somehow I keep acquiring new scratches on my temperature control display (the glass part that reads outside/inside temp and air flow level). I tried to cut out a ipad screen protector but it looks terribly sloppy! I would buy one if I could find one that fit the Prius specifically.....
View 12 RepliesI bought the car yesterday as certified used, but today I noticed some tiny scratches on the rear fender. It looks like it was scratched before, and the bumper is repainted, but not the fender. I can hardly see the scratches nor do I care too much about it, but I am going to take the car to GEICO for photo inspection, and I worry if they will deny coverage if someone hits this part of the car.
The first photo is just down to a bit of white primer, the second photo shows a deeper scratch at the corner but I am not sure if it is deep to primer or metal. This may be just a small touch-up job without taking it off. Anyway I will take the car to a shop for an estimation before I go for GEICO's inspection.
My wife came home today and asked me to take a look at something on her brand new 1 month old Prius V 5. I asked her was there something wrong with her car. Of course she told me no, everything is fine. She opens up the driver side front car door, (she has a Barcelona Red V with Bisque faux leather interior) and points out some small scratches on the plastic silver/gray plastic piece that surrounds the power window buttons. It looks like while she was driving she probably put her hand on that area with her wedding band and diamond most likely scratching the area. This is only a guess at what caused it. I can't believe something as placing your hand down would scratch it that easily. That area probably shouldn't be plastic or should of been protected a little better.
View 6 RepliesI just purchased a 2010 Barcelona Red Prius II to replace my 2008 vehicle of the same color (which is going to our daughter). We have a terrific dog who, in my 2008 car, would often step onto the metal part of the car when getting onto or off from the backseat. This has left scratches in the paint, as it lies behind the area protected by the grey plastic in both cars (i.e., where it begins to slope upward). Is there anything that can be done to protect this?
View 7 RepliesI'm a longtime reader & today I got a excellent reason to make a post - I was at ~20mph & had just went around a corner & tried to accelerate fairly briskly & the car just dies. Hybrid Failure iirc. I got out of traffic & pulled the codes (BT dongle already installed) Torque shows P0A94 Powertrain. I reset the code & power cycled the car but nothing changed. The traction battery still was showing 5-bars so I moved the vehicle <.1 mile to a safe location. Battery was still at 2-bars when I powered it down.
View 19 Repliesso, i hit a deer that was already in the road dead, and it cracks my bumper in two spots, i got the insurance claim done but I'm wondering how to get out of it cheaper. the plastic engine guards under the front have come undone and are hanging down to where i scrape going over small bumps in the road.
View 1 RepliesI picked up a 2002 Prius with 164k, still on original battery. It giving code P3030 which evidently relates to a high voltage line snapped on the bus bar.
View 4 RepliesAny diagram for replacing a side mirror? I've read the threads about how to replace them, but if there was a cutaway view or diagram, it would sure make my job easier. I have a 2007 Prius, a replacement mirror, and the desire to fix it myself. I just do much better if I can visual the job at hand.
View 4 RepliesI just brought home a brand new 2011 Prius base model (it was the dealership's last one...their showroom model...=D)!
Unfortunately, I forgot that the hatchback door opens up REAL high and the spoiler kissed my garage door. Now there is this white mark and I was wondering if I can fix it at home? What is the difficulty level? I'm not really a handy-man so don't want to try to fix it and end up making it looking even worse (unless it's super easy to do).
The mark is not too too noticeable...it's about the size of a pencil tip. It just happens to be white so stands out slightly against the black.
Also, most important, will this small blemish get worse over time and cause the mark to get larger over time (I'm thinking of how a crack can propagate and eventually cause a failure...except this won't be as serious)?
It's been a while. Am loving my 08 Prius that I bought in October but now that things are warming up, I can see a problem with heat generated by the dark dash under that expanse of glass. Do the lighter color dash mats work much.
View 4 RepliesThe small LCD display (Int temp, fan speed, etc.) in my Prius IV with Nav Package is very dark, read "unreadable" when sunlight is prominent in the car. This is so even with the panel rheostat turned all the way up to bright. Is this a faulty display or is there any work around if not?
View 8 RepliesWhat could be causing the two dark dips in this headlight pattern? These are supposed to be the LED headlights. The cut-off is pretty good, but the dark area on the left is noticeable on the road. I didn't notice the one on the right until I lined up this shot against the garage door.
View 9 RepliesMine is quite dark and like, foggy? Is this typical or is it a problem ?
View 12 RepliesMy v will be 3 years old soon, and it has developed various electronics problem.
1. Night time GPS screen got so dark - now use Day time all the time as I learned that this was the prevailing issue.
2. The dealer swapped the GPS screen trying to fix the GPS screen issue. After the swap, I cannot switch back and forth between the map screen and audio screen. Once I am using the map, it just is a matter of luck to go back to the audio screen.
3. After using the windshield washer, the wipers do not come out automatically.
Now here is my problem - the problem 2 and 3 occur 98% of times - not 100% of times. When I took the car to the dealer, it was one of the 2% time and they could move back and force between the map and audio screen. Despite the fact that I showed them the video, the dealer said that they could not do anything as they could not duplicate the problem.
I am going to bring the car in again and tell them of the new problem 3. It was also videotaped.
I just drove my 2 year old prius during the snowstorm for the first time. While parked, I turned the car on, headlights on, and tried to move the car. The gas engine already shut down during warm-up. Car was stuck in snow. I had to move back and forth on electrical only a few times before getting out.
Here is the question. After a second or third try in reverse, dashboard lights suddenly went totally dark, and would not turn on until headlights were off. I could not drive like that at night, so I stopped and googled it on my cell. Turns out the dimmer was all the way off.
But how???? I did not touch it. The car started just fine, everything working. Only after a few attempts to get of of the snow the dash went out? Is there something wrong with the electrical circuit? I did try to move the car very gently, without flooring the pedal.
