What does "Three-door Smart Key system" mean exactly? I have a proxy key on my car now but what does 3-door mean? Also, is the remote that is included that hideous, huge remote that looks generic and impractical? If so, are there aftermarket ones?

Any way to defeat the stupid panic button on the remote? In the past I have poured glue into them, Popped the red thing out, etc , but this is a lease and I might well turn it in in a few years and do not want to physically modify the smart key, but twice in the last week it has falsely triggered by getting pressed by the other keys on my keychain as I sat in the house. This must be a common problem, since I had to defeat the same button on 2 other cars I had. I am wondering if there is a software fix to have the receiver in the car ignore the panic mode.

View 6 RepliesRecently bought a 2010 Toyota Prius 1.8 and it was working very well. It used to display a message saying that the key battery is low. Then one day, the smart key stopped opening the door. After some reading on the forums, decided that the smart key battery might be really low, so used the mechanical key to get in and tried to start the car by placing the Toyota logo of the smart key on the power button. Since nothing happened, decided to replace the batteries anyways. After the replacement, tried again, but zip. The doors still won't unlock, and the proximity switch-on also is not working. Why? Is it an issue with the 12-v battery?
View 9 RepliesI have a Prius 2007 with smart key, the problem is the driver's door does not unlock while touching the handle sensor pad. I works perfectly with the other door and with the hatch one. The interior light turns on when I get close to the driver's door which means that it's not the proximity sensor.
It stopped working like a year ago, the weird thing that last winter and during the snow time exactly it worked like there is no problem at all! After that when the weather got better it stopped working again! Is it something related to temperature/humidity? or it was just like a one off happened by chance at that time?
Is there a way to diagnose the touch pad sensor and fixing it?
We've had our '11 Prius II now for a couple weeks, and I have run into a problem I can't seem to figure out. When I lock the car, either using the button on the FOB or the smart key, then come back and try to unlock it using the smart key, it will lock the vehicle again. I have to wait a few seconds and try the smart key again and then it will unlock. I tried the search, but haven't found any thing describing this. Am I doing something wrong?
View 16 Replies2013 Prius 4 ... A deer was trying to hitch hike but didn't give me warning before lunging into the passenger door. I found a salvage door that will work. I have switched all the wiring, speaker, locking mechanism and mirror but I need removing the door handle(outside). I suppose the sensor that matches my key fab needs to be transferred to the new door but I can't see how this is done. Looking for the instructions on removing the door handle?

Or is the only option to use the manual lock/unlock buttons on the armrest to lock it and then close the door?

Does not happen every time but has happened several times. I look like an idiot climbing in from the back seat.
The PRIUS Remote Start turns off as soon as you open the car door. Then you have to turn on the car again.
View 19 RepliesI traded my 2005 prius a year and a half ago for an '08 which apparently was a rental car for 40K miles before me. It came with only one key(not a SKS)which recently quit unlocking the doors and hatch remotely. I looked under the steering column and there is only a reset button for the tire sensor guage, and a couple blanks, presumably one would be for the remote/smart key reset.
I am currently using the enclosed key to manually unlock the doors. The remote works as usual when I place it in the slot to start the car. I live an hour plus from the closest dealers, and would love to address this issue without having to go there. I checked the FOB battery and even replaced it, although the voltage was practically identical between the existing battery and a new one. The little red light is operational when i press lock/unlock. The car stays outside - i don't have a garage, and remains unlocked between trips. Recently it sat for several days in the last large snowstorm. When I finally drove it up the 1/3 mile driveway, it would not lock when i was ready to leave it up on the 'hard road'. I've checked out a few related threads, but haven't hit on this issue yet. Perhaps the 12V battery is weak?
I am new to the web site and new to owning a Prius. Recently my wife and I bought a 2013 Prius two. I have a couple questions about the settings menu on the display. When you hit the set up button and then 'vehicle' it gives you a list of several items you can turn on or off. The first few are pretty easy to understand such as the doors unlocking at a certain speed or when shifting to or from park. But the others I've tried to search for what they mean and can't find anything. So my questions are:
1. What does 'Remote 2-Press Unlock' mean? And
2. What does 'Key System with Elec. Key' mean?
I sat on the remote for my 2010 Prius and the trouble started. I'm not sure how it was supposed to work, but the drivers side door wouldn't open until you played with the remote a lot. Just trying the old smart way by grasping the handle did one of two things, nothing, or it locked the damn door instead of unlocking it. When I used the keyfob, the door unlocked until I grasped the handle, It LOCKED! When I tried to lock the car and walk away, it would lock, then immediately unlock.
View 14 RepliesThe SKS on my 2010 Prius V used to open all doors when I grabbed the door handle but now it only opens the driver's door. I remember seeing somewhere in this forum that this is one of the few driver customizable options (unless it is for Gen II only) and I should be able to make the change on my own.
View 3 Replies2012 Prius Five. Dealer installed remote start using the stock key fob. This is the one where you push the twice button twice then press it and hold it for three seconds. The emergency lights flash while in remote start but the car shuts down when a door is opened.
A few problems I'm having is that first off the range stinks. I'm used to a chrysler remote start that I could turn on from the far end of my house and I'd hear the car beep twice to know it was turning on. Plus you can hear the V8 start. The Prius makes no noise so my only confirmation is to look out the window and make sure the flashers are flashing. Any way to have the horn beep to confirm? speaking of which, does this car have a horn?
I just purchased and 01 with 140k miles, questions/tips:
1) A/c does not run cold air and 2) remote key won't open passenger rear door
Just bought a 2012 limited Avalon and am trying to link smart key door unlock to seat memory. Have followed directions in manual (ignition off, door closed, seat set to desired position - press 2 and unlock at same time, hear beep). After doing this process, I move the drivers seat and close and lock drivers door and wait until lights go out. No seat movement upon door unlock. Have to press seat memory position button to move seat back.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2008 prius and I realized today that the driver side rear door will not lock. All the other doors lock except the rear driver side door. I tried locking it using the remote, but it didn't lock. I tried locking it with the lock button in the car by the driver which didn't work. When i try to push the lever by the door handle, it doesn't move.
