I have 2010 Prius II, 26000 miles. Will the dashboard tell me when to get the wheel balancing done? I did tell me about the air pressure and oil maintenance. Also, what about tire rotation? after how many miles shall i go for it?
View 19 RepliesI had my tires rotated about 2,500 miles ago with tire balancing and wheel alignment done. After this the car developed strong vibrations at between 55 and 65 mph. When the speed goes up or down from that range the shaking stops. If I am going at a speed higher than 65 mph and brake the car shudders until the speed is below the 55 to 65 range.
I had the VW dealer do another tire balance, but the problem persisted. I then went to a Goodyear tire outlet and had them do a tire balance and then another one about two weeks later. The problem is still there. The Goodyear people suggested running the car for a while and see if it improves. It has not about 2,000 miles later
The VW tech rode with me and said that it was warped rotors that caused the vibration, but if the rotors are warped, should this vibration also be felt for other speeds?
After 56k miles on my 2010 Type II, I suddenly started hearing a constants rattle sound that seemed to be located in the dashboard directly in front of the steering wheel. I got onto Prius Chat and researched every possible resolution, but not seemed to work UNTIL.... I saw someone had jokingly suggested squirting some WD-40 between the windshield and the windshield cowl. So, having nothing to loose, I gave that a try and... the rattle is gone! I can't explain it, but all I can tell you is my car is quiet again.
View 11 RepliesAs the title states, I need to know where that damn switch/sensor that tells the car that the rear hatch is open. Since I got the car, the hatch has been wonky at best when trying to close that hatch via the button. I figured it was going to need a new switch, however I just noticed something today.
I opened the hatch and the rear dome light came on. Pressed the button and it closed no problem. I opened it again a few minutes later and the light never came on. Tried to close it with the button again and it didn't work. And then it all made sense. The sensor that tells the car that the hatch is open is either gummed up or just needs replacing. So where exactly is this thing?
Understandably, I've been told I need to rotate my tires more frequently. I've also been told that when I have the tires rotated, they should be balanced as well. I have the skills (minimal) to removed a tire from one location and put it on another location, but I don't have the skills or equipment to balance them. Should I, in fact, balance them as well, and if so, how frequently should the rotation/balancing occur? This is a 2006 Honda CR-V with 75k miles on it.
View 17 RepliesCar still vibrates between 65 on up. However it is intermittent. Sometimes it will vibrate at 70. Sometimes smooth as silk.
I got the car road force balanced all wheels are between 6-7 lbs. I am going to go to the shop have them lift it up and check the lower ball joints and all the control arms.
QUESTION: Can I just replace a ball joint or do i have to replace the entire arm? Is the ball joint connected to the control arm in any way?
I had alignment & tire balance/rotation done on my 2005 Camry 4-cyl. Going 60 MPH or above, I can feel a slight vibration on the steering wheel.
View 4 RepliesI am growing very frustrated with the constant shake in my 2002 Passat wagon. A couple of years ago my wife had a blow out and I ended up replacing all 4 tires since it was time. I went with Michelin Primacy MXV4 (which I think the suck anyway). They have about 27000 miles. I have had the tires rotated about 3 times and the balancing always seems to go out. I purchased the tires at our local Discount tire and I have had to Road force balance them yet again. I do have a special warranty that should replace them in case one or more of them are defective. Before the last rotation the tires were fine I also had the rims inspected and they seem to be fine. I feel the shake mostly in the seat and the steering wheel does not suffer from usual side to side vibration
Another very curious thing is that they tend to shake a little bit more when I am going up hill. We live in NC and the highways are a bit hilly depending where you live. It happens in the 65 to 75 MPH range.
Everything else in the front end and suspension components seems to be fine.
I've just won a 2009 LS460L with 60k, at an auction, with very minimal damage to the front. Ill need to replace bumper cover, grill, hood and lights. I am pretty stoked about it.
The LS460 looks sort of unbalanced with the sides and the rear, and a higher front end. I've searched and search but I am looking for a picture, only added a front lip to sort of balance it out. I dont want a full kit, just not my thing. Just the front.
As for grill. While getting front end painted, I plan on doing similar style, a user here did. This is plastidip but of course ill be painting it. I also noticed on here, someone else had their bumper painted but had them paint his grill as well, but he painted the chrome grill housing. I like that chrome accent and plan on keeping it.

So I have been noticing a shimmy/bouncing at highway speeds (between 60-80mph) for a couple of months. It started right after I had a local indy tire shop swap my sliver stock wheels for the chrome version of the same wheel I picked up locally.
Funny thing is I did my front brakes last Sunday and after putting the tires back on, the ride felt smoother at highway speeds. I figured perhaps the indy shop didn't torque the wheels properly (which I'm sure they didn't as they didn't ask me the torque spec and didn't look it up, and used an impact gun to tighten bolts). I torqued my front wheels to 103lb by hand after doing front brakes.
This Thursday, I did my rear brakes and torqued the rears to 103lb. On the highway the shaking/bouncing is back and dare I say more noticeable.
Could it be that I did something incorrect when installing the rear wheels? The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 with about 15k miles on them. Look to be wearing evenly.
I have an appt. on Monday to have the tires balanced at Discount Tire. I asked about their machine and he said it's a Hunter which I take to me Hunter Road Force balancing machine. Is there anything particular that I should ask or know prior to going in?
Over the weekend when starting up my '04 Treg I noticed on the dashboard display the following warning sign "WHEEL FAILURE". Does any one have a clue what that may be? Once started moving the display only showed the little circle sign that you get when the tire pressure monitor senses that one tire has lower than usual pressure. After driving for more than one hour that sign went off. This morning the same warning came on again.

View 9 RepliesI have a 10' F150 and the radio has frozen. It will turn on but only displays the compass, Ext Temp, and time. All three of those items flash every two to three seconds. The controls in the steering wheel and dashboard no longer work (volume, seek, media, voice control...).
Things I've tried that haven't worked:
1. Turning the radio off and on
2. Restarting the truck
3. Pulling any fuses associated with the radio in the sub fuse box not sure of the technical name).
I have just noticed that my C4 does not have a slot on the dashboard to insert the Smart Start key. What do you do when the battery in the key fob runs so low (or out) so that the car won't recognize the signal and you need to get in and around somewhere?
I had this issue once in a while with my '05, where the battery got low or some outside radio signal was interfering with the communication, requiring 1) the use of the manual key, 2) inserting the key fob into the slot so the car would start. My key fob on my C4 does have the manual entry key, but no place to insert it.
Also, when leaving the car at the car wash, I would leave the key in the slot so the workers could start the car up to move it as needed.
I just bought a Prius v. When I am driving the Prius v on highway, the dashboard display disappear without speed and all the dashboard indicators. It was pretty scary. Brought it to Toyota dealer and they said they cannot replicate the problem. The dashboard display come on and off. Sometimes when I drove through a tunnel, it seems to trigger it. It also happen on bright daylight driving too.

I need to know if the same lack-of-warning should be expected, or I need to know if the dashboard will tell me that my battery is about to die. I realize there is a dashboard menu in my car that shows battery life, but I never switch to that menu. I'm always on the menu that shows the temperature outside. So if I'm not on the menu with the battery, will there be some kind of text that comes on to my dashboard to warn me that my battery is about to die?
Someone said I can lift up the hood and look for some eyeball red/green image on the battery?
I have a 2004 with 131,000 miles on it. It has been working perfectly with general maintenance since we bought it used with 100,000 miles on it in 2008. For the holiday weekend we drove from Prescott, AZ to San Diego (aprox. 400 miles) and we turned on the car as usual and the speedometer and all the dash lights wouldn't go on. Turn Signals were fine. Tried turning off and on again and same thing. We weren't going far, so we drove it and tried to park and it wouldn't shut off. We couldn't get the key out. We drove around a little more and it shut off. When we turned it back on, everything was fine. This happened one more time but no trouble turning the car off. I also thought that it was interesting that on the touch screen/nav when the dash was "out" the consumption meter was blank. What is going on with my car?
View 1 RepliesI've got a UHaul dolly, on which the platform where the front tires are can slightly rotate when the towing vehicle turns. I've been towing my 2012 Prius C for about 1,000 miles, got another 1,500 to go. Everything was going well until tonight. To tow, after getting much advice, I put my Prius C on "Park", parking brake disengaged and engine turned off. I checked on it a few times. At first, nothing to declare. But now, a few lights are on when I turn the car on!!!! ABS/regenerative brake/parking brake/anti-slip. Did I damage anything? We did not turn much, just a few times on parking lots. I am thinking maybe the steering was locked in front but because the dolly makes the wheels turn slightly with turning, it messed things up?
What should I do? I am thinking I could continue on with keeping the car turned on ACCESSORY mode and keep it on neutral, but that will likely kill the 12V after a while? Or I could turn the car ON, keep it on READY and NEUTRAL, hoping that the car engine will turn on when the battery needs to be recharged.
I have been driving the Prius C of my parents and as of last week I am a proud owner of 2008 Prius V. Where I can see the range that I have with the gas in my tank? In Prius C when you press the Trip button the odometer changes from trip A to B then to full odometer and then range.
View 5 RepliesMy 2006, owned since 2010, Prius dashboard lit up. Took it in, and was told it was overheating and needs a new water pump (not sure why 4 lights went off for just that).
The car has over 150K miles on it, multiple bumps and bruises (was a college car), and leaks when it rains heavily. All that in mind, is it worth fixing to get the car working well again?
There's an annoying reflection in the windshield of the dashboard lights at night. What have any of you done to get rid of it?
