I bought a 2013 prius two couple weeks ago,Whenever I start and drive it, there is a short clicking sound from the steering wheel. It only last for a really short time and only happen when I start driving the car.

A few things I noticed on the car, While driving I hear this clicking sound from somewhere behind the steering wheel. It sounds as if it's a relay
clicking on and off. The funny thing is it happens at odd times, sometimes very frequently, sometimes not as much. I tried with the A/C on and off and it seems to make no difference. Is it related to the electro-mechanical steering? Funny thing is, I remember hearing similar sounds from other Passats. I had test driven...
door and panel piece in the car is rattling, hopefully things will "settle in" a bit after a while. Are the screws that attach the trunk to the rails supposed to be body colored? This is an interesting touch.
The noise I am talking about comes from near the steering wheel and sounds like a relay or switch turning itself on and off rapidly. I can not pinpoint why the clicking starts, but I believe I have figured out what the sounds is from.
Over the weekend while heading up snowboarding I turned on the rear defroster, and there the sound was. I then turned the rear defroster on and off rapidly and it replicated the clicking sound I hear periodically.
I will be contacting the dealer to see if they can resolve this annoying sound, now that I have found the source.
Getting a slight clicking sound/feel when turning the steering wheel when either stopped or moving very slowly. It's most noticeable when turning in and out of a parking space. Don't think it's subframe but may the strut bearing caps.

I just noticed a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel Area... it does not occur with any specific movement and is fairly quite... definitely sounds like some kind of electrical switch tht is continually trying to do something (sensor??).
I am wondering if this is related to the airbag fault? Very annoying once you pick up on it... along with whatever is loose in my driver side pillar next to the seat belt strap that rattles with the bass!!
I have a 2000 MK4 Jetta GLS that's had a clicking noise in one spot whenever I rock the steering wheel left-to-right or right-to-left. It's noticeable while stopped or at low-speed and seems to be in one particular "sweet spot." I've had the tie rod ends changed, with no improvement. It seems obvious that it's some kind of linkage or joint that's worn out, but I'm just not familiar enough with the steering system on these cars to know where to look. I thought maybe a bad CV joint, but they usually click when the wheels are turning, not when the steering wheel is being rotated, and they don't usually go on clicking for a year without wearing out.

The noise isn't there (i think) when making a normal turn. No noise either when car is stationary when I crank full left/right. Are the CV joints dying? I find it hard to believe that both sides are dying and with such low mileage...

I have an appointment at VW dealer tomorrow but they do not want to take ownership as I have replaced the head unit and have steering wheel controls for my Alpine IVA 505.
It is not electronic as the controls are solid state and the can bus adapter is behind the head unit. It seems mechanical but what could it be? I definitely notice that at a stop when rocking the brake that create the start of the clicking sound .
I have a 97 F150 that I just got a few weeks ago. I was driving home Wed. night when the 4x4 low range light would come on and off intermittently I had it in 2h the whole time. I went online and couldn't really find anything on it. So I get up to go to work on Thursday and the truck wouldn't even turn over. The battery was dead. I have put in a new one but now after turning the truck off I hear a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel. What this may be?
View 3 RepliesI have a significant amount of play in my steering wheel, and I notice a clicking/clunking sound in the steering wheel when the steering actually moves the tires. This makes it very hard to drive in a straight line, and that's kind of important when your car is 19 feet long . Is there anything that could be cheaply/easily fixed to remedy this?

While driving, a rapid clicking sound randomly comes from under and to the left of the steering wheel and the van concurrently has stuttered power. It still drives but is rapidly getting worse with frequency and we are on a road trip on the Oregon Coast with young kids and limited local mechanics. It seems like something as simple as a loose connection but before digging in to check electrical connections .....

View 6 RepliesOften when I am turning the steering wheel, even a little it now seems, I hear a whooshing/rubbing sound and feel just a little bit of that rubbing. It feels/sounds like it's coming from the housing right behind the wheel itself, maybe where the shaft bearing is. Is this normal?
View 9 Repliesso I was heading off the freeway to take my exit at night. Didn't see there was a little curb island between the main freeway and exit. Went with the car over the curb and my right passenger tire went out.
I changed the tire and driven off, then noticed the car sound got much louder all of a sudden and when I turn the steering wheel right or left, I hear or feel a heavy sharp sensation- yet the car turns fine, it just sounds louder when I press the gas and when I turn the steering wheel I can feel my feet vibrating a bit and a soft/sharp squeak sound comes out.
What could this be?
After 56k miles on my 2010 Type II, I suddenly started hearing a constants rattle sound that seemed to be located in the dashboard directly in front of the steering wheel. I got onto Prius Chat and researched every possible resolution, but not seemed to work UNTIL.... I saw someone had jokingly suggested squirting some WD-40 between the windshield and the windshield cowl. So, having nothing to loose, I gave that a try and... the rattle is gone! I can't explain it, but all I can tell you is my car is quiet again.

View 1 RepliesIn my 2006 Prius, I just started noticing this recently, but whenever I turn my steering wheel, it makes a weird noise and I can feel something going on through the steering wheel. It doesn't impede my steering, the car steers just fine... It's just an add sound, I don't want to say a cracking sound... but it kind of is? I don't know. I'll have to put a video of it up. & it doesn't matter which way I turn it, it still makes the weird sound and the intermittent vibration... I know it has E-steering and occasionally you can here the motor whirring when you turn it but this is different, it's a loud... popping noise is the word for it! Popping, and I can feel it when it pops through the steering wheel. Again, it doesn't impede the steering ability at all, but something isn't right I'm sure... Or maybe it's normal.
View 2 RepliesI've been noticing this one single "metallic" click sound a few months ago, it happens whenever I turn the steering wheel a little over 90 degrees.
The steering intermediate shaft recall has been done summer of last year. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this sound I'm hearing.

If you watch this video, you need to turn it up really loud to hear the faint click sound every time I turn the steering wheel past 90 degrees.
I am getting a click from the steering when rocking the wheel left or right. It is coming from the assembly the intermediate shaft is connected to. I see there is a large bearing on the end where the shaft comes out. I am not sure what this assembly is called. I have had it at the dealer and they said they re-torqued everything but they could not duplicate it.
I do not fall in the range for the recall and I have no problem with the car pulling left so I do not think it has anything to do with the intermediate shaft. It is clearly from the assembly the intermediate shaft is connected to on the steering wheel end of the intermediate shaft. 2011 limited
This is my first VW and I have a strange clicking noise when I turn left or right and especially after a turn and the steering wheel turns back to center. Taken it in twice and no one can figure it out. I have never heard this before on any car. What this may be?
View 4 RepliesI have a 250 f-sport model, it's only around 1.2k miles, and I recently noticed a 'clicking' noise while making some turns. Would it have anything to do with the weather? I have been experiencing colder/rainy weather compared to the warm weather I was driving in when I first got the car... Weird 'click' noise? I feel like it's coming from the steering wheel column.... or am I just being paranoid?
