The prius just shut down on me while I was driving. I just read that the glitch causes the hybrid system to overheat and shut off.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2005 Car Went Into Neutral And Shut Off While Driving?
This morning on my way to work by car went into neutral and shut off while driving. The hybrid warning system light came on along with the malfunction indicator. The master warning light also came on. Also the car turned back on eventually... should I have it towed or should I drive it there?

I was driving on the highway when everything on the car went dark-the wipers (it was raining) stopped-and I was left just coasting. The hazards worked. I managed to coast through the exit and off the access road which is where the car is now, the next morning.
Once again: Car running fine, with no problems when an instantaneous shutdown occurred.
The key fob's battery had gotten to the point that the Smart System wasn't working so I assumed that the fob battery had gone totally dead and wasn't communicating with the car while inserted in the fob slot. I replaced the fob battery and it activates the Smart System now.
The 12v battery was replaced less than 6 months ago. The headlights still work....I think that would only happen when the key was available normally and this might be related to the below description:
The car makes the warning sound when I open the driver door as if the fob is still in the ignition (it's the warning that the keys are about to be locked in the car) so it seems to not realize the key has been removed.
The suddenness of the shut down makes me think that it's a blown fuse or, a horrible thought, that the immobilization feature is activated.
Prius (2010-12) :: 2011 - Cell Came On / Car Slow Down And Shut Off While Driving At Around 55 Mph
While driving around 55mph, the check engine light came on and as soon as it came on the car begin to slow down until it came to a stop. There was no noise. This was the first time the check engine light has came on. My car has exactly 28,960 miles on it.
It took the service department at the dealership nearly 2 full days to charge the car and get it to stay on when you turn it on. It wouldn't initially stay on when they charged it. They originally called me this afternoon around 4:30pm and said they were trying to get a software update from Toyota. Around 4:55pm they called again to say that I needed to contact my insurance to file a claim because they think maybe something is wrong with my gas because they think they found some crystal-like substance in the tank. A gas-related issue is not covered under warranty.
I don't see how a gas-issue caused the car to completely shut down. I also don't see how this could be why they had trouble charging the battery.
Prius (Gen 2) :: 2008 Completely Shut Off While Driving On Freeway - No Warning Lights
My 08 prius completely shut off while driving on the california freeways today. No warnings no lights on the dash nothing. Just powered off. Will not start the ready light of any dash lights for that matter work.. tried to jump it.. nothing working. What the he'll can cause thus.. I'm about 500 miles from home with a car just parked. Could a 12v battery cause this no start issue?

Its not my car (its my father in laws). The other day his 05 prius (170k miles) shut off while he was driving. He pushed it home and I sent him a link on how to check the 12v battery. He said it showed it was low so he used his golf cart battery to go and take it for a test drive to see if that fixed the problem. In the drive way at idle his hybrid battery charge went up half way but when he went to drive it he got 1/8th of a mile down the road and it dropped to 0 then the car shut off again. He said the display says something about the battery (I haven't been over to look at the car).
They are sure its the hybrid battery, but if it was me I'd go to the dealer and find out for sure. My husbands aunt had her hybrid battery go out and hers did other things, like go into turtle mode and a/c blew hot. I think her inverter pump went out and she kept driving it till the battery got messed up, but anyway...What does my father in laws symptoms sound like? Is there any extra at home testing that can be done?
Prius (2004-09) :: 2007 Toyota Completely Shut Down After Driving Couple Of Miles
Yesterday when i was driving on highway on my dash board the lights came on: the check engine light, master light, brakes lights. After driving couple of miles my car completely shut down. I took the exit and after that the car didn't start at all. Even i couldn't start the ignition to connect my OBD scaner to read the codes. Now I even can't do something to read the codes or to turn the engine on somehow, what to do.

Yesterday, I was driving from PA to THE (beaches), about a 2 1/2 hour drive. The car was running fine the whole time, no problems. I get to about the last 15min of the drive where the highway ends and it enters the town with stop lights. I get to the first stop light and stop of course and while I am sitting there my car just shut down. Everything just went right off, Headlights, gauges, radio, I mean everything. It wasnt like a stall, It was the weirdest thing as if I just removed the key really fast. Everything was reset when I turned it back on, Clock went back to 12, Headunit went back to standard settings, and I lost my awesome 24.8mpg I have been working on! After the light turned green I turned the car back on and drove into a parking lot to see if the battery was ok. Everything in the engine seemed good it sounded fine, and the battery was hooked up all tight.
Anyway It freaked me out the rest of the way and tomorrow when I leave I am a little nervous. That could be pretty terrifying if it happened while I was moving, especially at night time. Something I should check or bring to a dealer to get looked at. I am not throwing a check engine light or anything. The car has been starting up fine everyday for the past 2 months. Prior to that the car sat in a garage for about two months (being turned on and moved around every week or so)
Mods (engine or electrical): If this is necessary
-Intake
-Short Shifter
-Double Din (with Nav)
-Flapper Mod (on Switch)
-Helix Headlights with HID drop ins
-Air horns
-All of these mods have been on the car for at least a year
Most recent mod was a skid plate which I have been hitting a lot of things with but I dont see how that could in any way affect this..
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Shut Off While Driving
Car shut off while driving. Saw it wasn't getting fuel. Replaced fuel pump. Got fuel. It will crank. Still won't start. Replaced crankshaft position sensor. Still no luck. No battery. No luck. Timing belt is perfectly fine. I checked the ecm relay and it seems to be working. It won't get a spark. It will try to crank but will not get a spark in any of the cylinders..

Car is a 97 Pontiac Grand Prix. I was driving the other day and my car just shut off when turning a corner. I thought it might have been out of gas so I put gas in it and it started for a min but when I put it in drive it died and hasn't started again since. I took the alternator out and had it checked an it was good and the fuel pump still made a weeeen sound when turned over so I don't think neither off them are it. I think it could be the crank shaft thing but I don't know I'm not a mechanic or I wouldn't.

Upon getting it home to check it out i tested the vehicle wire for the fuel pump with a test light and get nothing from the wires (the key was turned ). Tested all fuses and they are good. I have a audi a4 1.8t engine code atw and for awhile i would have random no starts then about two weeks ago it shut off while i was driving home from school and hasn't started since. it turns over fine but i am getting no spark and im getting the error codes p1517, p1433, and p0321 so far i have changed the crank position sensor, the cam position sensor, and the ecm main power supply relay. Still I am getting no start i cant figure this out...

I was driving my car to school and right before I got to a busy intersection the speedometer dropped off and then my engine shut itself off, the radio and dashboard panel still had power and were working fine, the driving panel had lights blinking like I had the car in the on position without the engine going. I have a 92 ford f150 that ran great up until I was driving the other day and my trucks engine just shut off, like i turned the key off. It wouldn't restart. Towed it home, let it sit, and tried again..cranks fine, still wont start. replaced the coil.. Cranked it for about 5 min off and on and it barely started.. Let it run for about 5 min and shut it off, wouldn't restart. Replaced the icm....and again, cranked until it barely started, then it wouldn't restart. Today I replaced the ignition switch, and the cap n rotor. Now It'll crank for days..but still not starting. I have 40 lbs fuel pressure at the rail, plugs, wires ,all new. new fuel pumps also....

Passat (B5) :: Dashboard Will Just Shut Off For About 2 Seconds While Driving
As of about a week ago I have noticed that while driving once in awhile the dashboard will just shut off for about 2 seconds and go black all dials drop to zero and then it will come back on again but with everything reset to 0. I also now have an airbag fault lit up on the dash that was never there before. The car runs fine and does not shut off or anything when this happens but is unnerving. I scanned the ecu and no codes.

I have a 2008 Jeep Commander that shut off while driving at any speed. Paid the dealer twice to research and all they can say it's the catalytic converter. If it was that it wouldn't start up every time it shuts off.. Let's start there first they say. My jeep shut off at any speed or just waiting for a red light to change. But dangerous because it will shut off with out a warning in the middle of making a turn. I have notified Chrysler but no answer to my problem.

97 2.4 caravan dies while driving. Its been going on for awhile, coded at o'riellys and autozone several times. It started with having the camshaft and crankshaft replaced. Problem solved for a few days but it always returned.It would restart a few minutes later then it got worse. I called it the 30 mile van 'cause that's all it would go before dying or not restarting immediately.
Go to the grocery store, have to wait another 30 minutes to go home. Then it started only going a few blocks before shutting down while driving. I replaced the o2 sensor, the shutoff and fuel pump relays and finally took it to a shop that engine coded it. On their advice, they said the codes were all over, jumping everywhere, we replaced the ECM. It went 5 hours driving great then died and immediately restarted. Again no dash codes.
Golf VI R :: 2013 Shut Off When Driving On Highway At About 60 Just Cruising
I have a 2013 Golf R Apr stage 2+ with about 74k on the odo. I have been stage 2 for about 5k and was stage 1 for about 20k before going stage 2. Changed my plugs and coils at stage 2 as well. So was driving on the highway at about 60 just cruising when all of a sudden there was a minor hiccup in the car and then pushed the gas pedal and nothing, RPMs started falling and then car shut off, put the clutch in and coasted to the side of the road. Tried to restart and it would not.
I have power and car tries to start but won't catch and turn over. Towed it back to a buddies shop and let it sit overnight, still won't start. started poking around. Checked Hpfp and everything seems fine, cam follower and cam are good. Noticed that when I open my drivers door now I don't hear the other fuel pump prime like it usually does and after putting hpfp back on and opening drivers door a couple times we checked the Schrader valve on the hpfp and no fuel came out like it usually would. Have it narrowed down to most likely culprits; Faulty in tank fuel pump, faulty fuel pump control module, faulty fuel pump relay.
Btw just thought of this, no check engine light ever came on, also don't have a way to pull codes.

I cleared the MIL and its off but its still throwing the second code.. What would cause this? failing fuel pump?
