I'm driving a loaner Gen 3, and for some reason, I can't access the energy monitor or hybrid system indicator screens. Is there a setting from the Settings screen or something I can access via Techstream?
View 1 RepliesRecently I changed the 12 volt battery of my Prius 2012. Now the Energy Monitor arrows are missing. When the car is moving there is not arrows displaying. The only thing that appears is the battery charging, I can see when is low and full, but that's it. How can I turn on the animation?
View 19 RepliesSo I'm doing a 24hour test drive on a 2014 Prius Two that may be replacing my 2007 Prius Touring (aka Package 5) that has a failing hybrid battery and so far I'm happy. I miss having a backup camera and premium audio but at $17000 I don't want to pay any more. Right now I just have a simple question... how do I show the energy monitor on the dash (top screen)? I even downloaded the manual but when I press the Display button on the steering wheel the only thing I can get to is "SETTINGS 3.11.16". I went into settings but didn't find anything that stood out... so I'm lost already...
View 11 RepliesI have a 2011 Prius with 75000miles. The energy monitor (car icon with ICE, Electric motor, and battery) no longer displays the arrows showing energy flow. The wheels on the car are still animated when the vehicle is in motion.

View 4 RepliesJust bought a new 2012 Prius Plug-in on Friday. Still learning the ropes. I've selected EV mode, and the EV mode indicator light is lit up as it should be on he dashboard above my steering wheel. As would be expected, to the right, the Hybrid System Indicator bar features a little car sitting on top of it with the letters "EV."
However, after a few minutes of driving, the letters "EV" disappear from the little car in the Hybrid System Indicator. The indicator doesn't switch the to HV screen (where the main bar is divided into two halves), but remains in the EV screen (where the main bar is undivided, with a little nub on the left for "charge" and on the right for "power.") And the EV mode indicator light above my steering wheel remains lit.
A few minutes later, the "EV" letters appear in the little car once again. Then they disappear, then they come back again. All along, I've had plenty of mileage left to go in EV mode (more than 6 miles).
Is this normal behavior? Is this simply what happens when the ICE kicks in despite being in EV mode? (And the ICE definitely kicked in - I saw that on the Energy Monitor graphic. And I understand why - it's been very cold here [northern NJ].)
I have some condensation forming on the inside of the plastic cover over the HSI. Is there a way to remove the plastic cover to dry it off?
View 2 RepliesFor the past few days, when I press the power button, I hear the beeps and then every dashboard symbol appears - except the Hybrid System Indicator screen is completely dark. The car seems to be turned on - but when I try to put the car in reverse to back out of my garage, it won't change gears. When I go to press Power to shut it down, it takes about 5-10 seconds to shut off.
I found that opening and closing the driver's side door reset something so that the HSI turns on and the car eventually starts.
My 2010 Prius Hybrid System Indicator suddenly becoming cloudy one day. Its inside the glass cover and I initially thought it was condensation, but it hasn't gone for several weeks.
I have the Toyota Extra Care Platinum extended warranty, so took my car to a Toyota dealer. They said it was due to some chemical reaction from something I used.
I found that ridiculous because I don't use any chemicals on my car, let alone myself but they didn't budge. I have to call Toyota & see what they have to say.
I am having a gen 3 prius and yesterday when I am driving on a humpy road.(village side road) i got this message on the prius hybrid indicator screen, with orange color engine light and orange color triangle warning light. But still i can drive the vehicle and it charge the hybrid battery and everything going OK. I got really got fuel economy too after getting the warning message. Only thing is the message is appearing every time at the screen, What should i do now.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 Prius with 106,000+ miles on it. It was running fine till 2 days ago, I didn't start it yesterday and today when i went to start it, I get the Hybrid System Malfunction light, along with check engine, the red triangle and TPMS light. The gas engine tries to start up, then 1 second later makes a grinding noise and turns off.
I am in Toronto and its cold, but not THAT cold yet. So I am doubtful its temperature related. I checked the fluids and they all seem to be sufficient (engine oil, radiator fluid, power steering fluid). I didn't notice any leaks under the vehicle either.
I just hit 20,000 miles and my Hybrid System Indicator Trip B which has my historical data was reset to zero.
When I got to the first 10,000 miles it did the same thing but at that time I thought I reset it by mistake.
I just bought a 2008 Highlander. I'm thrilled with the quality of the vehicle so far. This model has a tire pressure monitor system which I can't seem to reset. I've set the pressure in all tires at 34psi and 44 for the spare, and the indicator light will not go out. I press the reset button and the indicator light never blinks to indicate that a reset is in progress.
View 29 RepliesOn my way home from work tonight, the master warning light and the check engine (malfunction indicator lamp) appeared on the dashboard, and the hybrid system warning light has popped up on the multi-informational display.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2005 Prius with around 115,000 miles.
I have the following warning lights on:
1) Check Engine
2) Yellow Indicator, looks like exclamation point inside a circle inside parenthesis.
3) Red Multi-information display (exclamation point inside a triangle)
4) Hybrid System Warning Light on display screen, looks like exclamation point through a car
The engine cranks up just fine and drives forward and backward in the driveway fine. Battery level indicator is blue (see image). I checked for turbulence in the inverter reservoir with the engine off and fluid was flowing.
I checked the 12V battery (using the car's measurements by holding Display and turning lights on and off 3 times) and its value was 12.1 volts without engine and A/C on and 11.8 volts with them on.
The fan in the back right passenger seat is always on now though (I don't remember ever hearing this fan noise before), regardless of engine on or not, even though it's only about 80 degrees outside and it's been sitting idle all day and all last night. It comes on pretty much immediately when the power button is pushed.
Two weeks ago a large, industrial truck dropped a piece of bent steel pipe on the interstate in front of my 2010, 50k miles, Prius and (sadly) I was forced to hit or swerve into rush hour traffic and cause an accident. It tore up a good part of the cooling system and did some body damage. Of course I didn't know this at the time, but it began to overheat, so I pulled off the freeway and had it towed to a body shop. After about ten days, I got my Prius back.
View 13 RepliesI have a Gen III Prius with 13,000 miles. It is less than a year old and I just got the Hybrid Malfunction indicator...I'm a bit upset about this and am wondering what it means. I'm not going to be able to take it into the dealership until next week, and was hoping to get some information about the indicator. It's a blurry shot but it is an exclamation mark with wavy lines below it.
View 7 RepliesI let a friend drive my car for the first time today. Before today I always had a key with a slash through it that blinked until I started the car. Now that has disappeared and the hybrid lock indicator light is on instead. My friend left the car on, by mistake, while she went into the store. She tried repeatedly to lock it, and of course it wouldn't. Did this change something in my indicator lights?
View 10 RepliesJust got a 2008. The Hybrid Battery Status indicator on the display is usually yellow. it will sometimes switch to blue. I assumed that yellow was the correct color but after reading some posts here it seems that they should be blue.

My nephew borrowed the car for an hours and after that probably he went on a highway the hybrid indicator light is red and also the power light is red.
I've owned a 2014 Prius Four (not IV, Roman numerals were for model year 2010) w/o Nav for just about a year now. I've encounter this mysterious condition three times now where when I turn on my car, all I see on the front displays are the READY light on the far left and the mini-display that shows the shift pattern.
* Both the speedometer/fuel gauge display on the left of the shift pattern display and the "Hybrid status" display on the right of the shift postion display are OFF.
* The car operates normally (it's not in a limp-home mode).
When I first encountered this issue and reported it to my local dealer, they suggested I take a video of it with my smartphone. I did so the car (and a copy of the video) is now at the dealership.
The second and third times this issue came up, I took videos and did some additional testing.
- When these two displays are OFF, there is no backlight to the climate control LED display underneath the stereo...
- I normally drive the car with the headlamps in "AUTO" mode. When you shift the headlamp switch to "DRL off", the two missing displays automatically power on. In any other position (Auto, corner marker lamps only, or headlamps ON position) the two displays in question turn off.
- The issue isn't with me accidentally turning the dimmer switch too low. When the dimmer switch is set to max low and the dash light sensor is covered (emulating complete darkness outside), all three displays on the dash (including the shift position display) are barely visible/look off. As the service advisor saw in my video, that's not the case.
This is clearly a safety issue ("you cannot tell how fast you are going" and "you cannot tell easily how much gas you have left without going through the infotainment display) so for now the dealership at least seems to be on my side in that something needs to be repaired. The good news is that now that the issue has been documented in my service history, they did comment that it will get fixed eventually even if the issue comes back after test. For now, the dealership is stumped so they asked Toyota for guidance on what parts to try replacing.
