This morning, when checking the oil in my car, I noticed the brake fluid was about half way full.
Before doing the 5k mile service, I had noticed it wasn't full. I told the dealer to make sure they top it off, and they did. Now at 12k the reservoir is half way again. Rarely brake fluid should go down.
I just bought my 2012 Elantra Limited from the dealer today . The fuel gauge showed about two bars, a quarter tank I estimated. However when I went to fuel it, the pump clicked off after about 1 gallon, indicating the tank was full.
That was odd so I just figured there was some air in the tank or in the hose, so I tried adding some more fuel. I got about a half gallon more added when it clicked off again. Well, I know you're not supposed to top off the tank so I tried to add more. Got about two gallons added when it clicked off. I stopped fueling at that point for fear of causing damage.
My fuel gauge now shows a little less than half full. How can that be? Is there something I can do to fix this?
New 2015 KR. Has 2191 miles on it so far, 69 engine hours and 21 idle hours.
Truck is telling me exhaust fluid is under half full. I thought a full tank of it was supposed to last around 7k miles???
I have strange electrical problems my 2006 Prius has recently developed.
It started off this past weekend when I went to shut off the vehicle after about a 5 mile drive. The car wouldn't power down, though, regardless of how many times I pressed the Power button. I then noticed that the wheels on the MFD were still turning, despite the car being stopped and in park. I shifted to drive, drove a few feet, shifted to reverse, drove a few feet, then back to park. Same problem. (Note that I was able to shift gears without any problems despite the wheels on the MFD continuing to turn.) I finally ended up leaving the car powered on for about 20 minutes, and when I returned the wheels on the MFD had stopped turning and I was able to successfully shut the car down.
I drove it several times with no problems, but then experienced the same problem again yesterday. Also, I noticed that the bar graph of mpg seems to be showing about half of what the car is actually getting. I was on a long trip, and the car seemed to be getting about its usual 50mpg, but the bar graph consistently showed ~25mpg. The "instant" bar on the far right of the graph was correct, as was the overall average displayed on the other page, but the graph itself was clearly wrong.
I swapped my fluid and ever since I did that my clutch and brake pedal are pulsing/vibrating only when I start the car. It almost feels like ABS pulsing but on both pedals and the car is obviously stationary.
I followed the procedure from the manual and did all 4 corners and slave.
Brakes work fine/clutch is fine...
I must have done something to upset the BRAKE system?
I like to efficiently use my regenerative braking. Proof of that is that I have 107K miles on my 2008 and haven't had a brake job yet. Referring to my 2012, on the Hybrid System Indicator Screen, there is a CHG bar. The harder you brake, the more the bar fills from right to left. When the bar is full (when braking harder) do the brake shoes offer the balance of braking power needed.
Does the CHG display indicate that much accuracy?
I been having this issue when I drive to 0 miles left on gauge, then fill it at gas station and it clicks like its full, but shows only 8.5-9 gallons? And fuel gauge shows 1 bar missing from full.
2011 66k miles
Took to dealer and they replaced gauge module and was ok for 2 fill ups but now its doing it again.
Been driving for 3 days now for a total of about 100 miles from a full tank averaging 50 miles per gallon. I noticed the gauge still shows FULL. Not even a bar below or something. Is there anything wrong with my gauge?
View 19 RepliesI recently took a drive down CA to visit some friends. The whole drive down, my gas gauge did not move one notch. Finally, when I got to SB, it had moved down a couple of notches. By a couple, I mean 2 at the most. The next day, we drive to Costco and all of the sudden my C stops and says problem with the hybrid system. My car had run out of gas however my gas gauge said I still had plenty over half full. This is partly my fault since I shouldn't have expected to have gone so far on the tank, but at the same time, why isn't my gas gauge warning me like a normal car would. I have an appointment to get the gas gauge fixed this weekend. My car has 4000 miles on it now.
View 7 RepliesI was involved in a collision and had my 2005 Prius (direct from Japan import) in a collision repair shop. The shop performed the necessary electronic checks and fixed the superficial damage to the Prius. After a time, the car was completed and I drove it off-the petrol gauge was at the half tank mark.
One week later, driving 80k (~50m) a day, my gas gauge is still at the half tank mark. I decided to fill up the tank. I paid for what seemed to be almost a full tank price...and the gas gauge increased by one increment only. It still hovers at one bar over the half mark.
Scouring the web, and this site, I found a fuel calibration protocol. Here it is .....
Since purchase, I've had one gas fill up at 694 miles. That was four or five weeks ago and it's still full. My EV ratio is 65% (1100 miles) and will continue to increase. I realize I'm carrying a lot of dead weigh for weeks. For those with high EV mode use, what's your recommendation with gas fill ups? I'm thinking no more than fives gallons for daily commute and around town.
View 14 RepliesFor the last few weeks, it has seemed that the battery gauge on my 2002 has been half full more often than it should. I admit that I have no good science for this determination, but about half the time when I return home from work the gauge shows half full, and it returns to full after about 1 - 2 miles of driving. The car has about 122K miles on it.
Today I took a long drive through some pretty steep terrain toward the New River Gorge in WVA. Round trip it was about 750 miles. On the way home, I got an error on the console. I'm not sure what it was, but on the main display there were three boxes with writing. I didn't read them as I was pulling off to the shoulder. By the time I got there, the warning was gone. I turned the car off and restarted it. Everything looked good and I headed the remaining 10 miles home.
Once home, when I turned the car off, I heard a vibrating noise from (I think) the left side of the hood for about 5 - 10 seconds. I turned the car on again, and there is a vibrating sound, and the same turnoff problem.
Is this the final death knell of my traction battery? I have a 120K servicing due about now. I have been planning a reinvolt battery, but it is a bit of a drive away. Should I consider trailering the car down?
My gas gauge is intermittent. most of the time it reads right, but like 30% of the time it shows empty regardless of how full the tank is. What would cause this?
View 6 RepliesI turned on the car (2003 Chevy Venture) today and the "Low Engine Oil" display came on. I checked the oil (car had been parked on a flat surface overnight and engine was cold) and the oil was about 1/3 of the way up the dipstick, which is way, WAY past the full line. I let the car sit and warm up a little, checked again and the same level appeared. I am wondering what that means. After being on for a minute or so the engine oil light went off.
The check engine light has been on for about two days and when I went to check it yesterday the error code was p0171. Are the two related? Is there an easy fix for this or is this a sign of a serious problem?
I have a 2004 Nissan 350Z. During the first few years of the car, I always had a gas gauge that read correctly. Then, I had a recall notice about the gas tank. I took it in and got the part fixed. Now, my gas gauge does not read correctly. It rarely shows that it is full. In fact it looks like the needle "floats" up and down when I have driven it and used some of the gas.
Another thing I noticed is if the tank reads below 1/2 a tank and I go in to fill the tank, then start the car up, it looks like the needle just "sticks" and then jumps to almost full. I have put in some gas cleaners to see if that would work and it does a little but two things I would like to know:
If I decide to get this fixed, what is it that I should call this problem? When I mention it to the mechanics, they always act like I am nuts or they have never heard of this problem.

I'm thinking this has been leaking a long time. I have the worst luck finding a reputable mechanic anymore and if I can't trust a dealer...
View 9 RepliesOver the past approx 3 weeks Ive noticed that my gas gauge stops at about the mark half way between 3/4s and full now. Previously when I would fill the tank it would go about 1 click beyond full. Today,with the needle damn near on empty I filled up and it only took 9.13 gallons. During this same time span I am only avg approx 17mpg where prior i was getting over 23/24 mpg.

View 3 RepliesHave a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan ES which runs great. However, when gas tank is half full or less, the car will, only occasionally, lose power as if it is not getting gas. Every few minutes you can start it and limp along for a minute or two at 10 mph and then it will die again. As soon as I can get it to a gas station and fill tank, it runs fine again. And this only happens once in a while - say like once every couple months.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2001 Chevy Silverado with the 4.8L V-8 engine. It acts like it is running out of gas ( the gas tank is over half full). The truck has sat for about 6 months in this condition without being started here in Sacramento, CA. I then replaced the fuel filter and for a few minutes it started and the engine ran fine (without actually driving it). A few days later I started it again and it now again acts like it has fuel starvation, it will rev up briefly then act like it is running out of fuel. I know the fuel pumps are the Achilles Heel of these trucks, but before I try changing it I was wondering if there might perhaps be another problem such as the new fuel filter plugging up quickly or possibly an electrical problem. I've always heard these fuel pumps either work or they don't work, nothing in between. This problem is intermittent but big enough the truck is not driveable. Is there any way to get a good take on the problem before diving into the fuel pump replacement and hoping that solves the problem ?
