A few nights ago while driving my 2010 Prius III on the highway I suddenly heard a whistling sound, as if my window was cracked open. It was not, and I guessed that there was some other piece of the car that had come loose (similar to a previous incident with my splash guard under the bumper and I just popped it back into place and re-secured the pin).
View 19 RepliesI just noticed this ever since it started to warm up outside. Usually between 4-6 ticks (the lights that light up when you change the power), the whistling is the loudest. It's a very annoying noise and I can't pinpoint the issue. I was thinking it was maybe just some air turbulence within the vent, but even when I put the air to go on the floor only, I still hear it. Wondering if it's something worth taking my car in for. My gf and mom heard the noise as well, so I'm not going crazy. I also compared the air conditioning to my gf's Elantra GT an hers was completely quiet, with no whistling noise. Have this whistling noise with their air conditioning on? It's not really "loud", but it's clearly there. Really is noticeable when I switch between power levels of the air condition.

Kind of alarming considering the car is about 1 year old with 12k miles. Taking it to the dealer for a tire rotation and a oil change next week, I'll have them check it out then.

View 8 RepliesI have purchased a 2010 III Prius with 73K miles last week after my 2006, everything is fine for me but I have a scary problem , the engine sound is very high while driving even after enough warming up, specially when the ECO meter reaches the PWR area or when accelerating hardly, I tried changing the engine oil with synthetic 0W-20 and the filter and the sound still the same.
Check the video attached and also note that
- Its winter here and temp is 50F.
- The car was imported from the US,
- The speed in the video in KM/h.
- I am using clean OCTANE 95 fuel.
- The video was after driving 20 Miles.
- I have latest version of Techstream with original Mongoose MFC...
2010 Prius making knocking sounds. Not exactly the "death rattle" that sometimes happens when you first start the car.
* While driving, the sound reminds me of the Raptors in Jurassic World.

The car has over 300K miles and the problem started a few months back. At first the sound only occurred while driving under certain load conditions.
The problem would occur at intermittent times. Normally at low speeds with heavy loads (going up hill with low to medium acceleration). Also occurring for a short time when letting off the accelerator. Never occurring at moderate to heavy acceleration. Never at idle. Recently the shaking / raptor noise started to occur while idling.
* This problem is now easily created at idle each and every time the HV battery drops below 2 bars and requires charging. The engine change is immediate and starts and stops in sync with the extra load of the HV battery charge cycle.
Placing the car in the maintenance mode, the car will start and idle normally then immediately start and stop the knocking when it switches from HV charging to non-charging mode. There are no Check Engine light. Things I've done to troubleshoot the problem:
* Swapped the following parts with another working 2010 Prius.
** Coils and spark plugs
** VVT solenoid
** Cam Sensor
** EGR Valve Control
** Fuel Injectors
** MAF Sensor
** MAP Sensor
** Evap Control Valve
* Cleaned the intake manifold (It was full of carbon)
(This was done about a month before this problem started to intermittently appear). Prior to cleaning the intake manifold the car was shaking and misfiring under certain high torque condition and generating a P0304 check engine code). Once I cleaned the intake manifold the problem was fixed. I had no more check engine incidences and the shake was gone.
I just drive my 2011 new Prius class 5 off the lot, and I notice the front driver side or front tire make a lot of noise. Also I turn a low speed I can hear that noise. It sound like a shock noise sometimes and it sound like tire driving on bad surface noise. Pretty much I can hear it all the time the noise is very annoying because my wheel, tire, car is brand new with 49 miles.
I'm asking Prius owner with 17 alloy wheel, do you have the same problem? Or the 15 inch wheel? I test drive the 15 and it was sort of bad but the 17 alloy make a lot of noise. I being to dealer they say it normal because of the big wheel and small tire. The bs to me, on the phone they say they will give me a same car to compare but when I got there there no Model for me to drive.
My car have sound like motor running during I drive while i turn off the radio and I try to get where is the sound come from it seem like near driver seat, by the ways what is that sound ? it happen around 2 second only and after a while it happen again....

Quite a loud noise like whistling, as a rapidly rotating. Is this the original R32-sounding? I heard this noise because the sound generator is this true?
When we were driving our Touareg from the dealer, I (my dad did not notice) noticed that there was a faint whistling sound coming from the car. This happened on surface streets, not freeways, and about 35-40 MPH. Sunroof and windows were closed.

View 4 RepliesHaving issue where you get a continuous whistling while under normal driving conditions. I recently went to stage 3 Revo software using the Stasis Revo K04 upgrade kit, installed professionally. Have looked at all possible sources of the whistling, have narrowed it down to the the turbo itself. Can hear the car whistling from a good distance away from it. when not moving if I rev the engine i can reproduce the whistle as well, just not sustained. As soon as you press the throttle above 2400 RPM it starts whistling and continues to whistle as long as throttle is pressed. Car is almost un-drivable because of whistle.
View 3 RepliesI have noticed that at highway speeds, 55 + MPH, there is a whistling sound coming from outside the car, I can hear it more on the driver's side of the car. I checked all the rubber parts on the two doors and everything seemed to be in place. Is this normal? I probably only noticed it because I had the volume on the radio really low, but the whistling sound sounds like it's right in my ear. I got my roof wrapped so I thought maybe part of the vinyl came up and was causing that but the wrap is sound in place.

While I'm driving the car whenever I pass 90 km/h a whistling noise are started in front of my car. Hyundai Service nor Hyundai Customer service come up with a solution. The whistling sound is fairly straightforward but there are little details that are weird.
I noticed maybe 1 or 2 weeks ago that the car would make a whistling sound, not a high pitched one but a fairly middle-high sort of tone. It would make this sound when I put the car and drive and maybe just start to gas it but NOT all of the time. By the time I am at a regular speed it has gone.
But sometimes when I slow down the sound will return and go away when the car has come to a complete stop. But this is not a constant pattern. It is on and off. Only recently could I say it has become more frequent but even then I hesitate.
Also the sound seems to definitely be coming from under the hood possibly from the back of the car but I think front may be more likely.
I read briefly on a few car/car repair forums that it could be anything from an AC compressor going out, a vacuum leak, fan belt, bad water pump, among others. I tried turning the AC on, which I have kept off for pretty much the entirety of the Summer and I heard the sound only once when I resumed driving. BUT, when I revved, the engine seemed noticeably louder; almost like it was laboring though the car drove just fine.
One other thing. Before it sounded as if the origin of the whistle was coming from the passenger side of the car. Just as of today it sounded as though it originated from the driver's side. So I'm really confused now. The car seems to drive just fine and the engine the day before sounded good if not great. I'm hoping it is nothing related to the engine.
*Few Notes:The oil was changed in June. The tires were replaced recently. Though the sound started before this. I was however driving on a really bad passenger side tire for a while.There is a short on the panel that contains the left turn signal. The bad bulb was changed and I plan to find a new panel as soon as Monday.
I have a 2007 passat and it makes a whistling sound while idling or when I am driving except for when I am actually pressing the gas. Additionally the EPC and check Engine lights came on. What the problem could be? This is my first VW and I am really just use to Honda.
