Prius (Gen 3) :: 2010 - Noise Of A Buzzer Comes While In Reverse
Apr 13, 2016
A few days ago after returning from a trip, my wife backed the car out of the driveway and we heard a loud high pitched squeal the whole time we were in reverse. It almost sounds like a weeee noise or a buzzer of some kind. She says that occasionally while driving with the window down she has heard additional noises.
As if the car is trying hard. She said today when she pulled into the garage she heard the a similar noise while stopping. Now, this noise is nothing I've ever heard before on any car. It isn't like a normal brake squeal or anything like that.

I was able to shut down the very annoying seat belt buzzer on my three 2008 Prius taxi's but when I tried on my 2010 Prius tonight it didn't work. I have done some searches on this forum and haven't found any solutions.
Just imagine the pleasure on a busy day of having 30 to 40 calls or more and most people not putting their belt on. Not looking forward to having to listen to the annoying seat belt buzzer/bell whatever you want to call it.

Ok, It was -17 this morning. I had my truck plugged in and got in this morning and it started rite up. BUT, there was a warning light on, in the dash. The light that looks like a engine block. So, I drive by the dealer and ask him what it is. Hes tells me that the Def is frozen and when it thaws out the warning light will go off. So, I drive around pretty much all day today, but the temps didn't get above 5 degrees all day. Got home and the warning lights was still on. Another thing, when I went to put her into reverse the buzzer came on and stayed on. Guess it frozen too. You colder area guys have this same problem?

On a 2012 ford f350. We put on a tommylift gate and took off bumper with sensors. We added sensors to tommylift, now constant beeping in reverse because of location of sensors. Is there any way to permanently disable the revese buzzer??

Is there a way to increase the volume of the buzz sound when locking the door with the remote? It has been bothering me for a while. Every time I lock the door with a remote as I am walking away from the car, I need to listen very carefully for the almost inaudible buzz sound so I am sure the door is locked. I searched in the settings but didn't find where it can be changed.
BTW, it is a 2014 RX350.

I have 2004 prius, 100,400 miles. No problems ever and all of a sudden, driving as usual, vsc, brake, !, and alarm buzzer on the entire time car is running or door opens. Brake seems harder to stop now. Right rear wheel is grinding when brakes are applied. jerks a bit at slow stops.

Have had SC430 for over 10 years, 94000 miles. Have loud buzzer sound behind dash on startup or when key is turned to on position. The sound last 10-20 seconds and goes off. I have turned the AC off and tried different modes, no change. Everything seems to be working fine with the AC. Could this be a servo motor, the noise is not coming from the engine compartment. Any thoughts on problem and how to fix it. It makes this sound on every startup.

In my 2012 Elantra Limited that has less than 2000 miles on it, I occasionally get a chattering type noise when I put the car in reverse. It goes away when the foot is off the brake and car is in motion but reappears when braking to shift to drive. It only happens probably 5-10% of the times that I need to put the car in reverse. I stopped by the dealership and asked if they knew what it was and he said it was the brake calipers and there was nothing to do to resolve the noise.

OUr 2005 Prius has been intermittently popping on the buzzer/ ABS/ VSC and BRAKE lighte, usually when the brake pedal is touched, but sometimes without any apparent initiator. It remains on usually for 10-20 seconds, but occasionally stay on 20+ minutes. Interestingly, often, when the turn signal is activated, it immediately goes off. Dealer says there are no scanned error messages (and of course charged us to tell us that...), and to bring it in "while the lights are on." Right. It sounds like a short somewhere, but I don't know where to go from here.

I'm also having an issue with these lights/buzzer on my 2002 since last weekend. Probably about one in every five starts, the brake/ABS warning lights/buzzer come on for around five to ten seconds and then go off. Braking appears to be fine. I'm thinking the brake system is taking too long to pressurize on starting. The car has run fine and brakes have worked fine after this has happened. Brake fluid level is fine. Do these warning lights/buzzer usually stay on, with an issue, or is this intermittent lights upon starting how it normally shows a problem? And yes, I am going to see about finally ordering a mini VCI and also read the blink codes. Dealer is 50 miles from home so I'm trying to figure out what is going on prior to heading that way, as I don't want to have an issue on the drive there.

Why the continuous beeping in reverse? Wouldn't one beep suffice? My suggestion to the engineers would be...If you must have the car do something extra electronically while backing-up, have it mute the radio speakers. My guess is that more accidents would be prevented by the forced silence, than by the distracting beeping.

I own a 2010 model III Prius and the reverse beeping is driving me crazy. How to disable the beeping without visiting your Toyota dealership?

Does the gen 3 prius use electric motor only when in reverse? Reason I'm asking is that, I was in reverse and didn't see a rock that prevented me to move and keep pressing on the gas pedal and got no response and throttle response was zero even on the HSI screen. Had to move forward and back to reverse to gain momentum to go over the rock. Just a weird feeling knowing that the gas motor didn't even kick in even when pressing on the gas pedal.

It has happened about 4 times. Most recently this weekend. Driving around the non-hilly part of SF. About 80deg, tried to back up to parallel park and had to push it in reverse 3x. Popped out twice after beeping and reversing for 2 secs, about 4 feet. Very slight hill going reverse- about 5 deg.

The technician at Toyota showed me the options. You could either have a continuous beep or the intermittent beep, but you do not have the option of turning it off. I told him it was possible, but how?

Disable the beeper when put into reverse on your 2010 model? I did it on my 2005 model very easily, but cannot find the steps to take for various changes on the 2010 models.

Is there any way to reverse the drive knob so that forward is drive and backward is reverse? For some reason I tend to put it in reverse and expect to go forward. Any options?

Bought a 2001 F450 a couple of weeks ago. No problems until today. It's always made a strange sound, almost like a low air buzzer on a truck with air brakes whenever the emergency flasher is on.
Today the flashers quit working, but the buzzing sound still comes on when the switch is pressed. Turn & brake lamps still working fine. The truck is always hooked to a trailer, but behavior is the same whether trailer is plugged in or not. Now and then the flashers will activate for a couple of seconds and then right back off.
Also, I have an Aeroforce Interceptor gauge that plugs into the OBD II port. It works just fine until I hit the flasher button. Then the screen will fade in & out. At a loss to explain this one.
